Both of the film's two leads have won Best Acting Academy Awards. Holly Hunter won the Best Actress Oscar for The Piano (1993) about a couple of years after Once Around (1991) whilst Richard Dreyfuss had previously won the Best Actor Oscar for Neil Simon's The Goodbye Girl (1977). The gold statuettes awarded were won around sixteen years apart.
