The film's original title, "Life Sucks", was changed at the studio's insistence.
Despite the film's critical and commercial failure, it gained a cult following for being an experimental film by Mel Brooks as opposed to his usual parodies.
Whoopi Goldberg was considered for role of Molly but Mel Brooks was not confident that he could believably play her love interest opposite her. The part in the end went to Lesley Ann Warren.
