When photo archivist Michael Ochs brokered a deal to offload his sprawling collection of 20th century iconography to Getty Images in 2007, neither seller nor buyer knew absolutely everything that was included in the transaction. Ochs had a decades-long reputation as the ultimate source of rock ‘n’ roll imagery, but his collection, at the time of its sale, included 3 million vintage prints, proof sheets and negatives. Many hadn’t been seen in decades, and others, presumably, never at all — particularly some shots of Old Hollywood, obtained in countless acquisitions over the decades that built up the Michael Ochs Archive.
“The Earl Leaf collection alone was over 100,000 negatives,” Ochs says of the late beatnik photographer, who shot many unknowns (Marilyn Monroe, Clint Eastwood) before they blew up and Leaf went on to become the house photographer for The Beach Boys.

Jack Kehoe, a character actor whose 50-year career was highlighted by appearances in Serpico, The Sting, The Untouchables, Car Wash and Warren Beatty’s Reds, died Jan. 14 at age 85. The Hollywood Hills resident had suffered a debilitating stroke in 2015.
Kehoe’s family announced his death today.
Kehoe made his Broadway debut in 1963 as a supporting player in Edward Albee’s The Ballad of the Sad Cafe starring Colleen Dewhurst, and would appear on Broadway again in 1977’s The Basic Training of Pavel Hummel starring Al Pacino.

Jena Malone ("Donnie Darko," "Sucker Punch") has been cast to play Southern gothic writer Carson McCullers in the biopic "Lonely Hunter" at Full Moon Films says Risky Biz Blog.
The story will span 35 years in McCullers' life including her bouts of illness, torrid marriages, and the escapism she found in her work. Famed figures who were a part of her life include her best friend Tennessee Williams, her protégé Truman Capote, and her roommate Gypsy Rose Lee.
McCullers penned such classic novels as "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter," "Reflections in a Golden Eye," "The Member of the Wedding" and the short story collection "The Ballad of the Sad Cafe", most of which were set in the American South and dealt with outcasts and those feeling spiritually bereft.
Deborah Kampmeier will direct and will produce alongside Troy Johanson and Blair Breard. Shooting kicks off in Spring next year.

Hollywood talent scout Shirley Rich, who cast Sean Penn, Tom Cruise and Judd Hirsch early in their careers, has died. She was 87.
Rich, who worked in casting for Rodgers and Hammerstein and MGM and famed Broadway producer/director Harold Prince, died of natural causes on 28 December.
She also ran her own agency for three decades, Shirley Rich Casting.
Rich placed Hirsch in 1973 film Serpico and cast Penn and Cruise as military cadets in 1981 film Taps. She also cast actors James Spader, Edward Norton, Rod Steiger and Sada Thompson early in their careers.
On Broadway, she cast shows including South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, The Kind and I, The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window and Sly Fox, among others. On film, she scouted talent for Saturday Night Fever, Three Days of the Condor, Kramer vs. Kramer and The Ballad of the Sad Cafe.
Rich is survived by her husband, Lewis M. Krohn, a son, Steven, and a daughter, Lisa.
