The 800 meter run does not start and finish in the middle of the straightaway, it starts and finishes in the corner of the track right before the first curve.
An 800 meter time of 1:58 is nowhere near good enough to win a scholarship to Stanford. On top of that Stanford would never have any interest in a county championship, they would be more concerned with a potential recruit's performance on the state/national level.
