UNDERGROUND JUDGEMENT is a surprisingly brisk and appealing little addition to the heroic bloodshed genre of cinema, an obvious John Woo imitator that nonetheless succeeds in doing what it sets out to do. Our hero is the usual volatile cop who finds himself tangling with underworld boss Waise Lee, a man who seems untouchable thanks to the private army he lugs around with him. Female roles go to Sharla Cheung and Amy Yip, but the emphasis throughout is on fast-paced action, with multiple shootings, murders, fights and chases. The vehicular ending particularly impresses, and Lee gets to show off some decent action chops too.
