Joel Goodman (Corey Parker) and Russell Evans (Matt Roth) run a mail-order catalogue business. For some reason, they can never turn a profit. It's their accountant and Joel's cousin Kenny (Richard Kind). He has been stealing all along. They need a new accountant. Ellie Baskin (Julia Campbell) answers the call. She is rebelling against her wealthy powerful father and needs to be partner to prove to him. Oak (Stephen Tobolowsky) and Eve Munroe (Adilah Barnes) are two of the employees.
The partner stuff in the pilot is a lot of non-sense wrapped in a convoluted dating conflict. They should have her invest money into the company in exchange for the partnership. It's also weird to have Richard Kind turn bad. The pilot non-sense puts this show in a hole right from the start.
After getting canceled, the show creators created another show to put in the same time slot a few months later. They even kept Julia Campbell, Richard Kind, and Stephen Tobolowsky who are the best of the lot. That's an interesting backup move. It's telling that neither Corey Parker nor Matt Roth joined them. I'm not saying that they are bad. One of them should be the wacky comedic character. There isn't enough comedy coming from them. Maybe they should combine them into one character.
