As you know, Hollywood is a very competitive market, with movies coming out here and there. Some of these films are big-budget studio-backed projects, but there are also a lot of indie films that managed to make it into the mainstream from time to time, which is absolutely brilliant and we like it when it happens.
The story we have for you here is one such story, a story about an indie movie, but not just an indie movie, but also a short movie that is gathering a lot of praise in Hollywood right now, although we doubt that many of you have heard of it already.
The movie in question is titled Edge of Space, and in this report, we are going to reveal more information about this unlikely success story and potentially help it grow even more as the story of the movie reaches an even wider audience.

Sniper Killer places you in an intriguing dual role—you’ll take turns inhabiting both a calculating serial killer and the detective tasked with stopping them. Its innovative storytelling sees events unfold from opposite sides of the same twisted mystery. Developed by independent studio Puppet Combo, known for lo-fi retro-styled horror, Sniper Killer departs from their typical formula with an absorbing cat-and-mouse premise.
You’ll first learn to think like the killer, taking up a scoped rifle to eliminate targets according to ominous orders relayed over radio. Then it’s time to trade places with Detective Comardy, hit the streets, and scramble to put clues together before the body count climbs higher. What dark secrets lie behind the murders? And how deranged is the killer really? Shifting viewpoints keeps you guessing right until the game’s shocking conclusion.
While light on traditional interactivity, Sniper Killer pivots its gameplay around this compelling central concept.

Add another horror Fps to your list this Halloween, as Puppet Combo has announced that Black Eyed Priest and Henry Hoare’s gritty 1970’s inspired Fps Sniper Killer will launch on October 17 for PC via Steam. And if you never got around to checking out the demo last year during Steam Next Fest, you can still do so.
One part ‘reverse horror’ madman simulator, one part hard boiled detective mystery, Sniper Killer is from the minds that brought you Bloodwash and Night at the Gates of Hell. The story puts you in the role of the hard-boiled Detective Comardy, who must race to solve the case of the cryptic Sniper Killer. Mixing things up a bit in terms of gameplay is the fact that you also play as the eponymous killer while you stalk the streets looking for your next victim.

The Titanic and Dead Calm actor will join the likes of Brec Bassinger, Elena Kampouris, Dylan Walsh, Marissa Reyes, Evan Ross, Tony Pierce, and Teri Polo in the film, which is written and directed by Alexander Garcia.
There’s no information about Zane at this stage, as the film’s logline remains under wraps though we know it’s a coming-of-age story centered on a visiting relative who is harboring a dark secret. Last month, we told you Final Destination star Bassinger had been tapped as the lead.
Zane’s recent roles include playing Marlon Brando is Waltzing with Brando, while his existentialist dark comedy Int.Hallway/Night was acquired by Buffalo 8 during the Cannes Film Festival this year. He wrote and directed the pic. Further back, he starred in Titanic and had roles in Twin Peaks,...

In previous episodes of The Best Movie You Never Saw, I’ve talked a little bit about how much I like the eighties and nineties actor Tom Berenger. From Platoon through Shoot to Kill and The Substitute, he was a great character actor with some serious action chops. Were he to have come along in another era, he could have easily been an action star in the vein of Liam Neeson or Gerard Butler, but in his heyday, audiences seemed to prefer larger-than-life heroes. Yet, some of his movies proved to be modestly successful, and one of the more intruding examples is the 1993 movie Sniper, which is probably the best movie you ever saw that got nine sequels.
In it, Berenger plays Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett, a legendary sniper with many confirmed kills under his belt. His work nowadays is embroiled in the war on drugs, with him having...

Recently, the first teaser trailer for MCU’s ‘Agatha All Along’ debuted, promising a blend of mystery, magic, and intense drama for the upcoming installment in the MCU.
The series will center around Agatha Harkness as she strives to reclaim her magical abilities after being imprisoned by the Scarlet Witch. Actor Joe Locke recently hinted at numerous details about the show, including confirmation that his character Billy Kaplan will be portrayed as gay, with a focus on tasteful representation.
The backlash began promptly, with many fans drawing comparisons to Star Wars’ ‘The Acolyte,’ which was described by its showrunner as “the gayest” Star Wars series yet.
Fans express concern that ideology may overshadow storytelling once more, fearing that diversity, equity, and inclusion (Dei) themes and sexual orientation will be forcefully integrated into the narrative, which they find fundamentally problematic.

In the 80s and 90s, an interesting cycle of inspirational teacher movies was being made. You know the type – the film where a big star plays a down-and-out teacher who gets posted in some crime-ridden school, and they manage to turn things around? Often, they were based on true stories, like Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, Lean on Me and a few others. Then, there were the more fanciful, tough-guy teacher movies, like Nick Nolte’s Teachers and James Belushi’s underrated The Principal.
But of all these movies, the most badass, by far, is a little movie called The Substitute starring Tom Berenger.
In it, he plays a mercenary who goes undercover as a substitute teacher to avenge a brutal assault on his girlfriend, a crusading teacher played by Heat’s Diane Venora. While initially only planning on staying long enough to find the teens responsible, he finds himself...

There is a video of a young Bradley Cooper asking a deeply thoughtful question to Robert De Niro about his process for the film “Awakenings.” He was among those studying at The Actors Studio Drama School who were the audience for “Inside The Actors Studio” hosted by the late James Lipton. Bradley would guest on the show in 2011.
Through the 2000s, Cooper had great stints in television with a lead role on the Fox sitcom “Kitchen Confidential” which was cancelled after one season and a regular role in J.J. Abram’s “Alias.” It wasn’t until 2009’s “The Hangover” that he got his big break. Todd Philip’s chaotic buddy comedy was a box office smash, making just shy of $500 million worldwide on a $35 million budget. It even won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy in 2011. This spawned two successful sequels that took the box office total for the trilogy to nearly 1.5 billion dollars.

If you paid any attention to Netflix in late 2023 you may have noticed a couple of films from a franchise you'd probably never heard of hitting the Netflix Top 10. Those movies were "Sniper: Assassin's End" and "Sniper: Ultimate Kill," both of which are part of the remarkably long-running "Sniper" franchise. The series started with 1993's Tom Berenger-led "Sniper" before becoming a direct-to-dvd series with 2002's "Sniper 2." Since then, Sony has churned out a further eight films, all of which have gone straight to home video/streaming.
Berenger starred in the first three films as Master Gunnery Sergeant and sniper extraordinaire Thomas Beckett. While the first movie was met with middling reviews and made around $18 million at the box office, the great Roger Ebert seemed to like it well enough, giving the film three out of five stars and proclaiming it to be "a pleasure to watch," even if it wasn't "a particularly original film.

Only '90s kids raised in video stores — or, more likely, their dads — will recall Luis Llosa's 1993 military thriller "Sniper" with any clarity. "Sniper" stars Tom Berenger as Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett as he becomes lost in the jungle while trying to complete an assassination mission with a militarily inexperienced sharpshooter played by Billy Zane. The bulk of the film takes place in the woods of Colombia, although it was shot in Australia. The film was well-liked but critics noted that it was pretty generic; Roger Ebert gave "Sniper" three stars, noting that it was competent but lacked originality. The film boasts a 38 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but that comes from a mere 13 reviews.
What only fans of "Sniper" might know is that Tom Berenger returned to play Thomas Beckett in Craig R. Baxley's "Sniper 2" in 2002 and P.J. Pesce's "Sniper 3" in 2004. These two sequels...

We’ve lost another Hollywood legend. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that cinematographer Bill Butler, best known for his work on the 1975 Steven Spielberg classic Jaws, has passed away at the age of 101. Butler died on Wednesday evening, according to the American Society of Cinematographers. He would have turned 102 on Friday – today.
Born on April 7, 1921 in Cripple Creek, Colorado, Butler earned his first entertainment industry credit by working as a camera operator on the 1959 film 1001 Arabian Nights. His first cinematographer credit came when his friend, director William Friedkin, hired him to shoot the 1962 TV movie The People vs. Paul Crump. He never attended film school, he just taught himself cinematography by watching movies and referring to the ASC manual. That approach definitely worked out for him. Over the next fifty-four years, he served as the cinematographer on eighty-four more projects, including Jack Nicholson’s Drive, He Said; The Bold Men,...

Specialty distributor Niu Vision Media has acquired North American rights to the film and lined up a limited release March 17 in 150 theaters across the U.S. and Canada. Niu Vision picked up Full River Red from Bill Kong’s Edko Films, which is handling worldwide sales on the film and will continue offering it to buyers in select territories at next week’s Filmart industry confab in Hong Kong.
Produced by rising studio Huanxi Media, Full River Red was the big winner at China’s Lunar New Year box office race in late January. Frank Guo’s sci-fi sequel The Wander Earth 2 was the market favorite in the lead-up to the lucrative holiday release period,...

Sam Mendes’ “1917” opens wide this weekend with high expectations after very strong initial limited engagements. Estimates range from $25 million up to $35 million for its 3,200 theater domestic run, bolstered by Golden Globe wins and mostly favorable reviews. However, that’s not its biggest draw: “1917” is the latest in a century-long history of high-profile war movies that capture both success and prestige, and often become classics.
“1917” is set in the killing fields of northeastern Europe, where for nearly four years Allied and German soldiers slaughtered each other with very little to show for it. World War I paralleled the growth of the movie industry; as film historian Kevin Brownlow noted in his 1979 “The War, the West and the Wilderness,” the war shaped the medium. It advanced its appeal with feature films and early newsreels, as well as technology as battlefield filmmakers improvised to shoot footage.

In case you’re wondering, before I start this review let me say, this Is Doom… All the aspects of the classic iD Software title are present and correct: from the transporting gates to the coloured keycards, from the weapons to the set/level design (with a brilliant nod to the intermission screen from the first game early on in the film), it’s all here in what can only be described as one of the most faithful video game adaptations to have ever been produced… Though there has been one liberty taken with the Doom franchise – this films “Doom guy” is actually a Doom girl, in the form of actress Amy...

The headlines of the holiday box office belonged to “Aquaman” while “Mary Poppins Returns” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” brought in family audiences. But farther down the charts, Clint Eastwood quietly left his own mark.
After opening a month ago to a $17.5 million launch, Warner Bros.’ “The Mule” has amassed a domestic total of $101.4 million against a budget of $50 million.
As a director, Eastwood has had several major hits this decade, the biggest being 2014’s highest grossing domestic release, “American Sniper.” He also found success with Tom Hanks on the biopic “Sully” in 2016. But he’s had some missteps too, namely “The 15:17 to Paris,” which only made $57 million worldwide against a $30 million production budget before marketing.

This Canadian is an award-winning rapper in his homeland — his 2011 album Tsol earned a Juno for Rap Recording of the Year, beating out Drake’s Take Care. But in the U.S., he hadn’t drawn much notice until he began hosting Netflix’s rap history series Hip-Hop Evolution. His new album is typical of his thought-provoking work: It’s a concept piece about the ways in which humanity tears itself apart through conflict, whether physical, spiritual or economic, and creates environmental catastrophe in the process. The music is airy,...

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga could be the first duo from the same film to win Best Actor and Best Actress Oscars in 21 years, but there’s an even more elite group “A Star Is Born” could join. If they and their co-star, Best Supporting Actor contender Sam Elliott, prevail, “A Star Is Born” would only be the third film to win three acting Oscars.
The remake would join “A Streetcar Named Desire” (1951) and “Network” (1976) in going 3-for-4. The former won Best Actress for Vivien Leigh and supporting statuettes for Kim Hunter and Karl Malden, while leading man Marlon Brando fell to Humphrey Bogart (“The African Queen”). “Network” won a posthumous Best Actor trophy for Peter Finch, Best Actress for Faye Dunaway and Best Supporting Actress for Beatrice Straight. Chad Michael Collins is set to recur on this coming season of “NCIS: New Orleans.” The actor will play a Navy fighter pilot on the sophomore effort of the CBS procedural. Collins will first appear in the episode “Kissed by the Sun” in October, playing opposite series leads Scott Bakula, Zoe McLellan, and Lucas Black. Collins recently wrapped the franchise lead role for Sony’s forthcoming film “Sniper: Kill Shot.” He also starred in “Sniper: Legacy” with Tom Berenger and Dennis Haysbert last fall, and originated the Sgt. Chicago – Oscar! Oscar! Oscar! Say it three times to win it, and you’ll win every Academy Award pool you enter – at least for the nine categories covered here – if you follow the advice of the HollywoodChicago.com “experts.” We have the Oscar magic, so if you believe in it, then we deliver.
Three film writers of HollywoodChicago.com – Patrick McDonald, Nick Allen and Spike Walters – will not only predict Sunday’s big night, but will suggest choreography to Neil Patrick Harris for his opening number. The crew will opine on Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor/Actress and Director. As in previous years, the prognostications are broken down into thoughts on who Will Win, Should Win and Should Have Been Nominated (for one last gasp of dissent). The predictors will also take on a wild card guess for several other categories, and the latest odds on the rest of...

The 2015 Ee BAFTA Awards were handed out in London Sunday night and while the broadcast aired hours later in the United States, it didn't stop us from chronicling the twists and turns of a show often seen as a bellwether for the Academy Awards. It took home only three BAFTAs, but "Boyhood" was the biggest winner of the night as it won Best Film and Richard Linklater earned Director honors. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" took home five statues including Original Screenplay for Wes Anderson, Production Design, Costumes, Original Music and Make Up & Hair. "Whiplash" earned three BAFTAs including J.K. Simmons for Supporting Actor, Editing and a somewhat surprising win in Sound. Expected Oscar winners Julianne Moore took Leading Actress and Patricia Arquette took Supporting Actress. Eddie Redmayne earned a key win over rival Michael Keaton by claiming the Lead Actor BAFTA for "The Theory of Everything." The latter also won...

The 2015 Oscar nominations were announced this morning and while I've already furnished a few thoughts on the omissions and surprises right here I figured we would go down the line and see what stands out. Who and what films were "snubbed", what are the biggest "surprises" and so on and so forth. Rage is sure to follow in the comments and what better time than now to get it all off your chest as we lead up to the 87th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 22c Let's take a look and see what the verdict is on these nominations, which I will ask you to vote on at the bottom of this post. Best Picture No real surprises here as I had all eight of these films getting a nomination for Best Picture. The only difference between this list and mine, however, was I had Gone Girl getting a nomination,...

Shocking as it may seem given the amount of horror flicks I review here on Nerdly, I’m not just a horror fan. My movie-loving passion is in fact split between three genres: horror, teen comedies and action movies. As much as I can appreciate low-budget horror flicks I can also appreciate low-budget action movies – which, at least from major studios, are few and far between these days. Which is one of the reasons I was excited to check out Sniper: Legacy.
The other reason? Well, as a teenager I used to love Impact Magazine. It really was my film bible, I’d religiously pick up each and every issue from the newsagents near where I used to catch the bus to college; in...

I love me some Tom Berenger behind a rifle scope. Remember 1993′s “Sniper”? That movie launched a franchise, though if you don’t partake in the direct-to-dvd movie market, you may not have known that. I did, and I’ve seen all of the “Sniper” movies, including 2002′s pretty good “Sniper 2″ and the equally pretty good “Sniper 3″ in 2004. Seven years later, we got the not-at-all-bad but unfortunately Tom Berenger-less “Sniper: Reloaded.” Although Berenger didn’t show up for “Reloaded,” his co-star from the original “Sniper,” Billy Zane, did. That film also introduced Chad Michael Collins as the son of Berenger’s character, who is also a sniper just like dear ol dad. The latest is “Sniper: Legacy,” which teams Collins and Berenger as father-and-son, thus bringing, I guess, the franchise full-circle. Or some such. The point, is it’s Tom Berenger back behind a rifle scope shooting fools!

24 years after Tremors hit theaters, did you actually think you were safe at last from those pesky graboids? Think again – a remake of the beloved horror comedy still has a pulse and is actually ramping up for production sooner than we had thought. Not that we were asking for one, but it might be fun to revisit the premise with more modern special effects, trading out Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward for two modern-day comedians (anyone else want Key and Peele to take this?).
Recently, Don Michael Smith posted the following to his blog, indicating that Universal is keen on the remake:
Hey all you “Company Of Heroes” fans, I’m back in Sofia, Bulgaria getting ready to do another in the series. This one’s called “The Fourth Reich” and it promises to have more of the same only better. For all you out there that hated on the first movie,...

As a general rule, I’m a big believer in cinema moving forward. It’s vital for an artform to constantly renew and reinvigorate itself, in order to remain interesting and avoid stagnation. That’s why bold and visionary filmmakers are so important. To date, the writer and director of Reach Me – John Herzfeld – has been neither of those things (2 Days In The Valley, anyone?), but the new trailer for his latest movie suggests a move in a new, more intriguing direction.
The film is about a large collection of characters and their respective connections to a self-help book – titled ‘Reach Me’ – written by a reclusive author, played by Tom Berenger. Now, here’s the thing – it would seem that while this film represents the all-important forward motion for helmer Herzfeld, it may also prove to be the opposite for many in its cast – and that’s just fine. For...

A superb character actor James Woods has turned in some remarkable performances. Here are a few of his underappreciated roles...
If you're looking for an actor who's far more interested in being a character than a hero, then surely James Woods is your man. He's built up a body of work over several decades that has rightly brought him a degree of acclaim - Videodrome, the brilliant Cop, Ghosts Of Mississippi, Contact, Salvador, and his growing collection of excellent TV roles - but in the 80s and 90s, he popped up in lots of films that are rarely talked about now.
There are so many seemingly lost great James Woods roles, that it seemed long overdue we try and right that particular wrong. So here's a collection of perhaps the lower profile, yet brilliant, performances from his career. And this is just a few of them.

IMDb would have you believe that Billy Zane shaves his head for aerodynamics in the swimming pool, but we all know that’s not true. It’s our hearts he slips into so effortlessly, and maybe your girlfriend’s vagina, and he does it with a mischievous grin, a dastardly glimmer in his eyes, and yes, that frequently shaven head of his. He’s a memorable actor in every one of his films and often the best thing about many of them too… mostly the direct to DVD ones. Speaking of which, his latest film is the third sequel in the Sniper franchise and the first to see him reprise his role from the original. Sniper: Reloaded hit shelves this week, and we’ve got a free DVD for one lucky winner. How can you win? Simple… tell us your favorite Billy Zane performance in the comment section below. I know what you’re thinking. Narrow...

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Chad Michael Collins, an up-and-coming actor to watch. Collins is really just starting out, having amassed such credits as Legion of the Dead (2005), Lake Placid 2 (2007), CSI: NY (TV), Greek (TV) and NCIS (TV), but he recently scored his biggest break yet, the one that could secure him serious interest from producers, directors, casting agents and audiences. He's the lead -- yup, the star -- of Sniper: Reloaded (2011), a direct-to-dvd sequel to the popular Sniper action films that starred Tom Berenger. Collins plays Berenger's son in the April 26 release from Sony Home Entertainment, but let's let him tell everyone about it -- and about himself, his career and aspirations -- in this exclusive interview. Movies about snipers fascinates me, especially since I could never, ever in multiple lifetimes mold myself into one of them. Fact is, I’m just not that dedicated. They are the consummate professional — killer elites that pride themselves on patience, precision, and outerworldly skills. Plus, they’re the epitome of the lone wolf hero, that favorite of cinematic badasses — hiding out in the jungles by themselves (or with a spotter, if you really want to be accurate about it) for days, waiting for the perfect opportunity to take the shot and send the bad guy to Boot Hill. Yeah, they’re cool, and movies about them tend to be pretty cool, too, even if they’re complete rubbish like Mark Wahlberg’s “Shooter”. Cripes, that one was horrid. The best in the genre has to be the “Sniper” franchise, which started in 1993 with Tom Berenger and Billy Zane, with Berenger...

Dive into four curiously non-action clips from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s “Sniper: Reloaded”, the fourth entry in the “Sniper” series. You’d think the studio would release more action-packed clips from the movie, but not so much. “Reloaded” replaces Tom Berenger with a younger, Tom Berenger-ish Chad Michael Collins, and Billy Zane, one of the stars of the 1993 original, reprises his character as a mentor to the young tyke, who is running afoul of guys with Ak-47s in Africa. While working with the Un Forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Marine Sgt. Brandon Beckett (Chad Michael Collins), son of renowned sniper Thomas Beckett, receives orders to rescue a European farmer trapped in the middle of hostile rebel territory. When he and his men arrive at the farm, a mysterious sniper ambushes them, wounding Beckett and killing everyone else. With the help of his father’s former protégé,...

I’ll admit it, I love the “Sniper” movie series. It started with 1993′s “Sniper”, the only entry in the franchise that made it to the big screen, starring Tom Berenger as a badass Marine sniper, and Billy Zane as his protege. There were some awesome camo action in that one. Part 2, made 10 years later went straight to DVD and had its moments, and best of all, it still had Tom Berenger as ace sniper Thomas Beckett, so it was all good. Part 3, made two years after part 2, once again still had Beckett, but our hero was getting on in years in that one. So apparently somewhere between parts 1 and 3 Beckett went and had himself a kid, though I don’t recall the tyke’s existence ever having come up in any of the three movies, though admittedly, it’s been nearly 7 years since part 3. In any case, there’s...
