The story we have for you here is one such story, a story about an indie movie, but not just an indie movie, but also a short movie that is gathering a lot of praise in Hollywood right now, although we doubt that many of you have heard of it already.

Add another horror Fps to your list this Halloween, as Puppet Combo has announced that Black Eyed Priest and Henry Hoare’s gritty 1970’s inspired Fps Sniper Killer will launch on October 17 for PC via Steam. The Titanic and Dead Calm actor will join the likes of Brec Bassinger, Elena Kampouris, Dylan Walsh, Marissa Reyes, Evan Ross, Tony Pierce, and Teri Polo in the film, which is written and directed by Alexander Garcia.

Exclusive: Colombian actress Diana Hoyos has joined the cast of the action pic Diablo, which Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired for North America.

Hoyos joins Scott Adkins and Marko Zaror in the film directed by Ernesto Díaz Espinoza’s.

It was announced today that Daro Distribution has also acquired world rights to the pic with the exclusion of North America, Latin America, Asia, Airlines, and the Middle East which Film Mode is representing on behalf of co-producer Agora Films. The film is being prepped for release later this year. Daro’s President Pierre-Andre Rochat has joined as executive producer.

Film Mode Entertainment and Wonder Street are co-producing with a script written by Mat Sansom. Producers are Craig Baumgarten, Clay Epstein, Adkins, and Marco Zaror. The film recently wrapped principal photography and is currently in post-production.

The film follows Kris Chaney (Adkins) who, after being released from prison, embarks on a perilous mission to fulfill an old promise but finds himself in danger when he kidnaps Elisa, the daughter of a powerful gangster. Her father, Vincent, puts out a call to the entire criminal underworld to bring her back alive. El Corvo (Zaror), a psychopathic killer, joins the hunt not for the money but for his own vendetta against Vincent’s family. Kris must evade both Elisa’s powerful father and a ruthless killer bent on revenge to live long enough to tell Elisa the full story that has been hidden from her.

There is a video of a young Bradley Cooper asking a deeply thoughtful question to Robert De Niro about his process for the film “Awakenings.” He was among those studying at The Actors Studio Drama School who were the audience for “Inside The Actors Studio” hosted by the late James Lipton. Through the 2000s, Cooper had great stints in television with a lead role on the Fox sitcom “Kitchen Confidential” which was cancelled after one season and a regular role in J.J. Todd Philip’s chaotic buddy comedy was a box office smash, making just shy of $500 million worldwide on a $35 million budget. It even won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy in 2011. If you paid any attention to Netflix in late 2023 you may have noticed a couple of films from a franchise you'd probably never heard of hitting the Netflix Top 10. Those movies were "Sniper: Assassin's End" and "Sniper: Ultimate Kill," both of which are part of the remarkably long-running "Sniper" franchise. The series started with 1993's Tom Berenger-led "Sniper" before becoming a direct-to-dvd series with 2002's "Sniper 2." Since then, Sony has churned out a further eight films, all of which have gone straight to home video/streaming.

Berenger starred in the first three films as Master Gunnery Sergeant and sniper extraordinaire Thomas Beckett. While the first movie was met with middling reviews and made around $18 million at the box office, the great Roger Ebert seemed to like it well enough, giving the film three out of five stars and proclaiming it to be "a pleasure to watch," even if it wasn't "a particularly original film.

Only '90s kids raised in video stores — or, more likely, their dads — will recall Luis Llosa's 1993 military thriller "Sniper" with any clarity. "Sniper" stars Tom Berenger as Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett as he becomes lost in the jungle while trying to complete an assassination mission with a militarily inexperienced sharpshooter played by Billy Zane. The bulk of the film takes place in the woods of Colombia, although it was shot in Australia. The film was well-liked but critics noted that it was pretty generic; Roger Ebert gave "Sniper" three stars, noting that it was competent but lacked originality. The film boasts a 38 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but that comes from a mere 13 reviews.

Five Chinese-language genre projects to be selected.

The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (Hkiff Society) has partnered with talent agency CAA China on an initiative to support the growth and development of Chinese-language genre projects.

The Hkiff Industry-caa China Genre Initiative (Hcg) will select five Chinese-language genre projects, which will be presented as a parallel section to next year’s Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf) and scheduled to run together from March 11-13, 2024 during the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (Filmart).

CAA China has teamed up with the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society to unveil a joint initiative that will foster Chinese-language genre film projects.

The Hgc initiative will operate an open call for projects from Monday until the end of October. Five successful projects will be selected and presented at next year’s FilMart rights market and Haf project matching event.

As part of the program, “CAA China will fund $20,000 cash awards to each of two handpicked projects to support their development, with customized guidance from mentors.” CAA China may also choose to board the winning projects later by entering into script development agreements.

“We are witnessing the rise of a new generation of Chinese filmmakers who are the backbone of Chinese cinema,” said Mary Gu, CEO of CAA China. “By collaborating with Hkiff Society, our aim is to discover and support young filmmakers with industry awareness and mainstream expression.

We’ve lost another Hollywood legend. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that cinematographer Bill Butler, best known for his work on the 1975 Steven Spielberg classic Jaws, has passed away at the age of 101. Butler died on Wednesday evening, according to the American Society of Cinematographers. He would have turned 102 on Friday – today.

Born on April 7, 1921 in Cripple Creek, Colorado, Butler earned his first entertainment industry credit by working as a camera operator on the 1959 film 1001 Arabian Nights. His first cinematographer credit came when his friend, director William Friedkin, hired him to shoot the 1962 TV movie The People vs. Paul Crump. He never attended film school, he just taught himself cinematography by watching movies and referring to the ASC manual. That approach definitely worked out for him. Legendary Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou’s period thriller Full River Red — the world’s biggest blockbuster of 2023, so far, with $644 million and counting at China’s theatrical box office — is headed to the U.S.

Specialty distributor Niu Vision Media has acquired North American rights to the film and lined up a limited release March 17 in 150 theaters across the U.S. and Canada. Niu Vision picked up Full River Red from Bill Kong’s Edko Films, which is handling worldwide sales on the film and will continue offering it to buyers in select territories at next week’s Filmart industry confab in Hong Kong.

Sam Mendes’ “1917” opens wide this weekend with high expectations after very strong initial limited engagements. Estimates range from $25 million up to $35 million for its 3,200 theater domestic run, bolstered by Golden Globe wins and mostly favorable reviews. However, that’s not its biggest draw: “1917” is the latest in a century-long history of high-profile war movies that capture both success and prestige, and often become classics.

The 2015 Ee BAFTA Awards were handed out in London Sunday night and while the broadcast aired hours later in the United States, it didn't stop us from chronicling the twists and turns of a show often seen as a bellwether for the Academy Awards. It took home only three BAFTAs, but "Boyhood" was the biggest winner of the night as it won Best Film and Richard Linklater earned Director honors. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" took home five statues including Original Screenplay for Wes Anderson, Production Design, Costumes, Original Music and Make Up & Hair. "Whiplash" earned three BAFTAs including J.K. Simmons for Supporting Actor, Editing and a somewhat surprising win in Sound. Shocking as it may seem given the amount of horror flicks I review here on Nerdly, I’m not just a horror fan. My movie-loving passion is in fact split between three genres: horror, teen comedies and action movies. As much as I can appreciate low-budget horror flicks I can also appreciate low-budget action movies – which, at least from major studios, are few and far between these days. Which is one of the reasons I was excited to check out Sniper: Legacy.

I love me some Tom Berenger behind a rifle scope. Remember 1993′s “Sniper”? That movie launched a franchise, though if you don’t partake in the direct-to-dvd movie market, you may not have known that. I did, and I’ve seen all of the “Sniper” movies, including 2002′s pretty good “Sniper 2″ and the equally pretty good “Sniper 3″ in 2004. Seven years later, we got the not-at-all-bad but unfortunately Tom Berenger-less “Sniper: Reloaded.” Although Berenger didn’t show up for “Reloaded,” his co-star from the original “Sniper,” Billy Zane, did. That film also introduced Chad Michael Collins as the son of Berenger’s character, who is also a sniper just like dear ol dad. The latest is “Sniper: Legacy,” which teams Collins and Berenger as father-and-son, thus bringing, I guess, the franchise full-circle. Or some such. The point, is it’s Tom Berenger back behind a rifle scope shooting fools!

24 years after Tremors hit theaters, did you actually think you were safe at last from those pesky graboids? Think again – a remake of the beloved horror comedy still has a pulse and is actually ramping up for production sooner than we had thought. Not that we were asking for one, but it might be fun to revisit the premise with more modern special effects, trading out Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward for two modern-day comedians (anyone else want Key and Peele to take this?).

If you're looking for an actor who's far more interested in being a character than a hero, then surely James Woods is your man. He's built up a body of work over several decades that has rightly brought him a degree of acclaim - Videodrome, the brilliant Cop, Ghosts Of Mississippi, Contact, Salvador, and his growing collection of excellent TV roles - but in the 80s and 90s, he popped up in lots of films that are rarely talked about now.

After The Hangover took the world by storm, it was clear Bradley Cooper was a star on the rise. Movies about snipers fascinates me, especially since I could never, ever in multiple lifetimes mold myself into one of them. Fact is, I’m just not that dedicated. I’ll admit it, I love the “Sniper” movie series. It started with 1993′s “Sniper”, the only entry in the franchise that made it to the big screen, starring Tom Berenger as a badass Marine sniper, and Billy Zane as his protege. There were some awesome camo action in that one. Part 2, made 10 years later went straight to DVD and had its moments, and best of all, it still had Tom Berenger as ace sniper Thomas Beckett, so it was all good. Part 3, made two years after part 2, once again still had Beckett, but our hero was getting on in years in that one.
