Daniel Hillard is played by Robin Williams and is the film's main character and main antagonist. Daniel Hillard is a erratic, childish and irresponsible talented unemployed voice actor. Despite being childish and irresponsible, Daniel is a loving father to Chris, Lydia and Natalie but a terrible husband to Miranda. Believing Daniel is not a good role model and not a good father to their children, Miranda files for divorce and Daniel loses custody of the children and the judge gives Daniel a restraining order and only allows Daniel to see the children one day a week until he gets himself sorted out and finds another place to live and to find a new job. Daniel wilfully decides to violate the restraining order and disguises himself as the Scottish housekeeper Mrs. Doubtfire so he can secretly spend time with the children. But, Daniel becomes jealous when he meets Stu Dunmeyer, Miranda's former lover who she has reconciled with and sets out to sabotage the relationship which he fears Stu will replace him as the children's father.
