MGM+ has unveiled the official trailer for its highly-anticipated series, Beacon 23.

The sci-fi drama will debut on Sunday, November 12, on MGM+ at 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt with the first two of eight episodes.

Zak Penn created the series and executive produced along with Glen Mazzara.

It is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by High Powey.

"Beacon 23 takes place in the farthest reaches of the Milky Way and follows Aster (Lena Headey), a government agent, and Halan (Stephan James), a stoic ex-military man, whose fates become entangled after they find themselves trapped together inside one of many Beacons that serve as a lighthouse for intergalactic travelers," according to the logline.

Forget Santa, Frosty, and Grandma. When it comes to Friday ratings, the vox populi went with The Grinch and the Fox WWE Friday Night SmackDown.

On a night heavy with holiday specials, the WWE SmackDown tied for the top in the demo wars with an 0.5, as the battle royal to determine the No. 1 contender (won by Sami Zayn) was in the spotlight. The night also saw the return of bad boy Brock Lesnar, who was announced for next week’s event.

Perennial Dr. Seuss favorite How The Grinch Stole Christmas also came in with an 0.5 for NBC, tying for the night’s largest viewership with 3.18 million. The animated 5 More Sleeps Until Christmas, based on Jimmy Fallon’s best-selling book, slipped from there to bring in an 0.3. That was also the demo score for its 9 Pm bookend the Trolls Holiday in Harmony special. NBC closed the night on the upswing with...

NBC’s broadcast of something called DreamWorks Trolls Holiday led the holiday Friday pack, scoring a 1.4 demo rating to go with its 5.2 million total viewers.

The Trolls in fact gave NBC its best non-Olympics numbers in the Fridays-at-8:30 time slot since Feb. 20, 2015, while also netting this TV season’s best Kids 2-11 rating among Big 4 primetime programs.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, opening the Peacock’s night, placed second with a 1.3 rating (and 5.7 million viewers).

Among other holiday-themed fare, CBS’ Frosty the Snowman did 4 mil/0.8, leading into Frosty Returns‘ 3 mil/0.6; ABC’s Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town drew 3.4 mil/0.8.

NBC’s unedited 50th-anniversary broadcast of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! drew 5.2 million total viewers and a 1.2 rating on Friday, easily winning the night in the demo while giving the Peacock a 21-month, non-Olympics high in the time slot. Versus a year ago (when it aired on a Wednesday with a strong lead-in), the Grinch was down 5 and 20 percent.

Leading out of that, How Murray Saved Christmas retained 3.3 mil and a 0.8.

Specials: Frosty the Snowman, Frosty Returns, The National Dog Show, Happiness is a Warm Blanket Charlie Brown, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, Hoops & Yoyo Ruin Christmas, The Happy Elf, It's a SpongeBob Christmas, and Person to Person. Reruns: Shark Tank.

On CBS, we started with 90 minutes of holiday specials reruns -- Frosty the Snowman (2.0 rating with 6.9 million), Frosty Returns (1.6 rating with 5.8 million), and Hoops & Yoyo Ruin Christmas (1.0 rating with 4.0 million). The new It's a SpongeBob Christmas special drew a 0.9 rating with 3.6 million. At 10pm, the second Person to Person special attracted a 0.7 rating with 3.0 million viewers.

On ABC, Last Man Standing found a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.7 million total viewers.

Fast National ratings for Friday, Nov. 23, 2012

Black Friday primetime was an evening of reruns and holiday specials, barring ABC, which aired original episodes of "Last Man Standing" and "Malibu Country." Both shows fared evenly compared to last week's numbers.

CBS won the war of holiday programming, bringing in 6.9 million viewers for "Frosty the Snowman" and 5.8 million for "Frosty Returns."

The CW's "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" and "The Happy Elf" did not fare as well, garnering 1.7 million viewers during the 8:00 p.m. hour.

ABC led the night with 5.8 million viewers and a 3.7 rating/6 share in households. NBC (4.8 million, 3.1/5) came in second, just besting CBS' 4.4 million viewers and 2.3/4. Fox (2.0 million, 1.1/2) finished fourth of the night, and The CW (1.6 million, 0.8/1) trailed.

The adults 18-49 winner was ABC, which scored a 1.4 rating in the demographic. CBS took second with a 1.1. NBC came in third with a 1.0, followed by Fox's 0.7, and...

Man and woman cannot live by turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and Black Friday sales alone. When you've had your fill of Thanksgiving merriment, television will be there to comfort you with an array of specials and marathons all weekend long.

Having grown up on the Rankin Bass Christmas specials since I was a child, the Yuletide season just isn't the same without a yearly viewing of some of their most enchanting shows. Since the 1960s and 1970s, specials such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, The Little Drummer Boy and The Year Without a Santa Claus were shown on the major television networks. In the late 1980s it became increasingly difficult to see most of these specials unless you had cable television or video cassette recorders as the major networks stopped airing them. With the availability of home video, the shows were inevitably made available to the masses and made great Christmas presents.

Frosty the snowman is a fairytale, they say. But it's also the title of one of the oldest holiday chestnuts in the animated holiday arsenal and on Friday (Dec. 9), "Frosty the Snowman" led CBS to another end-of-the-work-week ratings victory.

CBS grabbed 6.4 million viewers with a 1.4 rating/4 share in households. ABC and NBC followed with 5 million viewers each, though NBC edged ABC slightly with a 1.4 rating/4 share, while ABC made do with 1.3/4. Fox came next with 2.1 million viewers (1.4/2) and The CW drew 1.2 million (0.8/1).

The 18-49 demographic wasn't a clear-cut win for anyone. CBS and NBC tied with a 1.4 followed by ABC (1.3), Fox (0.7) and The CW (0.4).

The two-hour Dateline (1.4/4 in 18-49, 6.4 million) drew its largest audience and matched its best demo number since Oct. 8 to rank as the most watched program of the night. Meanwhile, CBS' rerun of Frosty the Snowman (1.6/6, 5.6 million) at 8:30 Pm was the highest-rated program of the night in the demo. It was followed at 9 Pm by Frosty Returns (1.4/5, 5.2 million), which tied Dateline for second place in 18-49. But CBS' celebrity special I Get That a...

Apparently regular CBS reruns fare much better than old Christmas specials and the return of "I Get That A Lot." The network lost Friday to NBC, which averaged 5.6 million viewers and scored a 3.6 rating/7 share of households with help from two episodes of "Dateline". CBS came in second, with 4.96 million and a 2.9/5.  ABC placed third with 4.1 million and a 2.7/5, followed by Fox (3.0 million, 1.8/3) and the CW (1.5 million, 1.0/2)

NBC also edged out CBS in the 18-49 demo, taking home 1.3. CBS (1.2), ABC (1.1), Fox (0.9) and the CW (0.6) all trailed respectively.

Well another season of Dexter has now come and gone. Although I’ve read mixed reviews about this season I have to say that I was really entertained by it. I’m also going to not hold anything back in talking about it so if you haven’t seen it yet and plan to then be forewarned that there be spoilers abound in these waters.

This season of Dexter had the very large shoes of last season to try and fill. John Lithgow had a stellar performance as the Trinity killer in an amazing story line that shocked, amazed, and hit us with a punch in the gutt on its way out the door with the unexpected murder in the final moments.

When viewing the season’s overall story arc I think the writers did a pretty good job of delivering us a season that wasn’t too over-the-top while...

We’ll watch these things year after year, and this Blu-ray release of the Rankin/Bass classics helps to preserve them for future generations, even if it doesn’t do too much to improve their appearance.

Dollhouse failed to maintain its high ratings Friday night, according to the latest viewing figures. The latest episodes, which aired at 8pm and 9pm, drew 2.1m and 2m respectively, down significantly from last week's season high of 2.72m. CBS scheduled reruns for evening: Frosty The Snowman and Frosty Returns logged 7m and 6.51m during the 8pm hour, then 4.51m watched Medium at 9pm. The 10pm episode of Numb3rs followed, drawing 5.35m. Fast National ratings for Friday, Dec. 18, 2009

A repeat-driven Friday led to low ratings and viewership across the board. But NBC, CBS and ABC were all vying for their piece of the viewership pie through the night allowing each to garner small, unimpressive ratings victories.

Overall, in households NBC won the night with 5.9 million viewers and a 3.9rating/7 share. CBS drew 5.5 million viewers and a 3.3/6. ABC drew 5.4 million viewers and a 3.7/7, with Fox  trailing (2.1 million, 1.4/2).

ABC and CBS tied for the adults 18-49 demographic with a 1.4 rating, NBC was right behind at 1.3. Fox was at 0.7, while The CW scored a 0.6.

All I Want for Christmas | Frosty Returns | Frosty the Snowman...

CBS' video mashup of a beloved Christmas special and "How I Met Your Mother" has sparked outrage among family-values types for putting Barney Stinson's words into Frosty the Snowman's mouth.

To those people upset with the video, we'd like to offer our thanks, because it might not have come to our attention otherwise.

"Frosty the Inappropriate Snowman" takes clips from the original "Frosty" and the lesser "Frosty Returns" (both of which air Dec. 18 on CBS) and combines them with some of Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) racier dialogue from "Himym." The result is -- to our eyes and ears, anyway -- a funny, grown-up remix that has Barney-as-Frosty talking about bro's night at a strip club and his porn collection.

Good for the little ones? Well, no -- but it's also not intended for them. It's a little holiday cheer for "Himym" fans, and in that context, it works just fine.

Frosty may be a jolly, happy soul, but his wholesome fan base is more than a little aggrieved. The ever-offended Parents Television Council is doing its part to spread the holiday jeer, singling out a couple of CBS cross-promotional ads as an example of, well, pretty much everything that's wrong with the world today. Still, good to know they're keeping their priorities in order. The ads, promoting the classic holiday specials Frosty the Snowman and Frosty Returns on CBS later this month, are dubbed over with some sassy dialogue from Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother. Apparently seeing Frosty muse on down-there rashes, the doability of grandmas, orgies, bulimia, bros' nights...

This looks like something a fan made up on the web but it was actually created by CBS. It's to promote the upcoming airings of Frosty the Snowman and Frosty Returns, as well as How I Met Your Mother. Is there anything Neil Patrick Harris isn't in these days?

Freshman series My Own Worst Enemy, starring Christian Slater, has been canceled by NBC, along with sophomore entry Lipstick Jungle, according to The Hollywood Reporter. At present their final airdates and replacements have not been formally announced but both shows saw declining ratings throughout the season. Enemy was considered important to peacock network but its reviews were mostly negative and it generated zero buzz.

The CW, meantime, has ordered five more episodes of Privileged, which is actually generating a little chatter. The 18-episode order is four shy of a full season but is an act of faith on the part of the network. To let people find out what they’ve missed, they will run episodes on consecutive days from December 1 and 8 while being repeated in the series’ normal timeslot, Tuesdays at 9 p.m.
