The book which appears in the movie is "L'avalée des avalés" (translated as "Swallow of the Swallowed") by Canadian writer Réjean Ducharme.
The scene where Léolo takes the hook of a fisherman and father and son have a little dispute is a reference to Night Zoo (1987), also directed by Jean-Claude Lauzon.
