The most wonderful time for streaming officially has a date: Dec. 25, 2024. That single day accounted for 51.2 billion minutes of cumulative streaming time, according to Nielsen, making it the most-streamed day of television for the U.S. in the company’s history of measurement.

Streaming represented roughly half of total TV consumption on that day, clocking in at 49.5%.

So what were people watching on Christmas Day? Unsurprisingly, Netflix stole the show. The Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans NFL game was the most-watched event of the day, securing 2.98 billion minutes streamed alone. The Ravens and Texans likely got an assist from Beyoncé, who performed during halftime. That was followed by the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburg Steelers game, which also secured 2.98 billion minutes streamed, though it saw roughly 200,000 fewer streaming minutes than the other game.

The Traitors is becoming more than just a cult favorite.

The competition series opened its third season with its largest viewing numbers to date: It registered 499 million minutes of viewing on Peacock for the week of Jan. 6-12, based on preliminary Nielsen streaming figures. Season three premiered on Jan. 9. (Nielsen’s streaming figures include all episodes of a show, so some of that time came from prior seasons.)

That’s a series high for The Traitors, whose previous best showing in Nielsen’s streaming ratings was 402 million minutes the week after its season two premiere in January 2024. It’s also the best premiere week for any Peacock unscripted series to date and was the top unscripted show in the United States last week across all platforms.

Full streaming ratings for Jan. 6-12 from Nielsen will be released in a few weeks, per the ratings service’s agreement with streaming platforms.

The procedural drama Wild Cards on the CW was green-lit for a second season in May, but like so many CW shows before, it floated in the bubble about whether the network would be canceled. For fans of this intriguing Canadian-us show, it was a relief.

Season 2 of Wild Cards is currently in production and will premiere on Thursday, Feb. 6 in the US. Not only will we have more crime-fighting stories led by Max and her partner, Ellis, who is portrayed by Vanessa Morgan of Riverdale and Giacomo Gianniotti of Reign, respectively. A handful of guest stars will also join the roster.

It's big news, considering we didn't have much coverage between the renewal and the guest star update. The CW has a history of keeping mum on show spoilers, even when updates are considered spoilers. Wild Cards has followed the same pattern, so we'll take what we can get regarding its content.

Plenty of movie franchises overstay their welcome, and two movies is often enough to see whether a franchise has a viable future. The first sequel often dictates whether a franchise can be more than just one great movie. For example, John Wick was designed as a standalone movie, but its first sequel set up an intriguing story that necessitated an entire franchise. For every John Wick, there are many more franchises which deliver underwhelming sequels.

Not all movies should set up long-running franchises, and not all franchises should be designed to continue indefinitely. There are plenty of franchises with just two or three movies that are the perfect length. Unfortunately, studios don't always know when to quit. The explanation is actually much simpler and more sensible. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Culkin would tell E! News that “there’s still some scary parts” for his young children.

The network released its 25 Days of Christmas schedule Friday, revealing all the programming coming up in December. There’s something for everyone, with things kicking off at 7 a.m. and extending through at least midnight every day from December 1 to 25.

The lineup includes classics like the Home Alone films, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, the Santa Clause movies, Miracle on 34th Street and multiple versions of The Grinch.

There’s also some non-holiday films sprinkled in, including Moana and Toy Story.

The bet was much more important to him than the future president’s visit, Grant said. “And I was completely focused on that. It’s quite a big bet. She didn’t believe I could do it, but I did it.”
