Based on Jose Emilio Pacheco's book "Batallas en el desierto," which shares a title with one of Mexican group Cafe' Tacuba's hits, "Las Batallas."
The story is developed in a neighborhood called Colonia Roma in Mexico City, which has become a hipster area full of trendy restaurants and bars, barber shops, pop-up stores, small boutiques, markets, and lots of people walking dogs and riding bikes. "La Bella Italia" the ice cream shop that appears in the movie, remains exactly the same.
Luis Mario Quiroz and Gerardo Quiroz, who play brothers Carlos and Hector, respectively, are brothers in real life.
Alberto Isaac took over the film when original director Jose Estrada died suddenly in 1986, just a week before production was to begin.
