The violence is intense and realistic. While there are brief scenes of dark comedy a lot of the film carries a very dark tone.
Suggested up to date mpaa: Rated R for sequences of strong bloody war violence and disturbing images throughout, sexual material, pervasive language including racial epithets and a suicide.
The first 45 minutes of the film is intense because of boot camp training, however it can be bit fuuny at times due to Gny. Sgt. Hartman's vulgarity.
The dehumanization of soldiers is a key theme throughout the movie, being shown to varying degrees.
This is a very dark and disturbing movie.
