This movie stars Whoopi Goldberg, who is very identifiably African-American, but plays a character called Rita Rizzoli, which name is very identifiably Italian. Roger Ebert commented that "the Italian name is much remarked upon, but never explained." However, it's entirely possible she's divorced and kept the name.
This movie featured a "Make my day" line. This line was popularized in Sudden Impact (1983) and was first used in Vice Squad (1982). Interestingly, co-Screenwriter Dean Riesner has screenwriting credits for Dirty Harry (1971), The Enforcer (1976), and Sudden Impact (1983) (uncredited).
Tom Holland, the director of Fright Night (1985) and this movie, had the movie poster for his previous film showing in one of the background scenes where two dope dealers are coming out of a movie theater.
