People don't talk much about "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" these days. Maybe that's because it only lasted two seasons, the first of which was truncated to just nine episodes due to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike. Or maybe it was just an early sign of what later "Terminator" movies like "Salvation" and "Genisys" seemed to prove -- that in the wake of James Cameron leaving the franchise and the '80s aesthetic that once defined it dropping off, "Terminator" just wasn't that big of a hit anymore.
The shame, of course, is that "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is actually pretty solid, unlike the aforementioned films. You'd think that after "Game of Thrones" made Lena Headey a global superstar, fans would be interested in going back and revisiting the high-concept sci-fi show she headlined just a few years before being cast as Cersei Lannister. Summer Glau also co-starred in the series,...

A week before the official start of the season, we have the first big debut of fall 2012. It goes to NBC’s Revolution, the network’s first big scripted premiere in quite awhile. Jj Abrams and Eric Kripke’s post-apocalyptic drama opened with a 4.1/11 in adults 18-49 and 11.7 million viewers at 10 Pm last night. In 18-49, Revolution was the top drama premiere on NBC in five years, since the ill-fated Bionic Woman in September 2007 (5.7); the top drama debut on any network in three years, since ABC’s V in October 2009 (5.2); and the highest-rated 10 Pm premiere in five years, since ABC’s Big Shots in September 2007 (4.5). It eclipsed the debut of NBC’s Smash in the slot last season, which aired on the highly promoted night after the Super Bowl with a bigger lead-in from a Super Bowl-boosted The Voice. This is the highest-rated 10 Pm drama telecast on any network in almost three years,...

The time has come to close on one of the biggest years in comic books we have seen for a while. Companies saw massive shake-ups to connect with new audiences, while some sadly didn’t survive the year. Countless news stories hit our TV screens and computer monitors that would affect every comic book reader out there in one-way or another. This is the top ten comic book news stories of 2011.
10) Draw The Line At $2.99
This may seem like a meaningless point now that the New 52 is in full swing but in January of this year comic readers were in glee when DC announced their new “Draw The Line at $2.99” campaign, one that would return all of their monthly books to a $2.99 price point (while moving from 22 pages to 20, per issue to balance production costs).

Last night I signed into my primary news source and was made aware by multiple tweets that Arrested Development — Mitch Hurwitz’s groundbreakingly kick-ass comedy — was slated to return to the air after a five-year absence. I’m delighted at the prospect, though I take it all with a grain of salt. Announcements of the show’s return have now run longer than the original series. Still, here’s hoping it happens.
On the heels of the A.D. bombshell, folks have been tweeting me throughout the day asking when they can expect the return of Sports Night, Aaron Sorkin’s proto-dramedy about the hijinks,...

Big shots taking advantage of the little guys had better watch their backs for another year! TNT renewed its light caper drama (as the network calls it) Leverage for a fifth season, today, a few weeks in advance of the Season 4 summer finale. Season 5, due to launch next summer, will comprise fifteen episodes of hacking, smacking, and, uhhh, macking?
Season 4, which TNT has shamelessly boasted is the series' "best season yet!!!!," has performed well for the network, bumping up its average audience to 4.8 million viewers. It's not very common for a series to see its audience grow, but Leverage's is doing just that. Probably... More >>...

Comic Book giant Marvel unveiled the shape of things to come at a C2E2 panel featuring some of the company's top creators.
Joe Quesada led the session in which Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, C.B. Cebulski, Mark Waid and Jeph Loeb met fans at this weekend's Chicago's Comic and Entertainment Expo and talked about a future full of surprises.

We want to reach a...

The shark attack in the pool in the opening scene was more of an episode storyline you would acquaint with CSI:Miami (TV) than Vegas. But at least it was different, though I didn't much like this episode, it wasn't as explosive and fast paced as the season opener. Yet it did have some redeeming features, such as allowing Wendy (Liz Vassey) to come back to give a proper ending to her character. She will be missed. Also Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) having a "Kodak" moment about her late father. Also the story of casino bosses rivalries is the usual stuff of Vegas and has been covered before in the show. This is Brass's (Paul Guilfoyle) "first shark call out" as he puts it and that was the first of many puns and fishy jokes floating around throughout the whole episode, as was expected. Also got that 'funny' music you associate with...

I have a friend who's a professional paparazzo. Dude makes his living by tailing Hugh Jackman on the Aussie actor's way up to family ski vacations in Vermont and being able to spot celebrities on the streets of New York like he was bit by a radioactive spider spawned by the Gawker Stalker. He can make tens of thousands of dollars off of one pic of Jay-z and Beyonce and then won't get a decent photo for months. Sienna Miller once kicked him in the shins because Jude Law was camera shy, in a bloody awful mood and is British, and therefore can't throw punches unless he's in a bad movie. I've learned a lot about the business from hanging out with this guy. How the vast majority of photo ops are orchestrated by the celebrities themselves, how some attention starved starlets will change outfits three or four times a...

The 2010-11 season is still pretty young, but it's safe to say that it's not going down in TV history as the start of a new golden age.
So far no new series has established itself as a breakout hit or etched itself on the pop-culture landscape. Yes, there have been some popular successes ("Hawaii Five-0," "Mike & Molly") and a few critical darlings ("Boardwalk Empire," "Terriers"), but nothing so far has broken into the Holy-cow-did-you-see-that-last-night club.
The relative lack of buzz around this fall's crop of new shows got us thinking: Which season in the past decade or so has produced the best new TV? There have been two pretty amazing brilliant years, a handful of so-so seasons and a couple of real stinkers. Zap2it ranks the best seasons for new shows since 2000-01 in ascending order:

What do "Brothers & Sisters," "Private Practice," "Castle" and "V" have in common?
They're the only dramas ABC has introduced since the 2006 upfronts that are still on the schedule for next season. Which is why it's so important that the network get a hit out of its crop of new hour-long series.
The six new shows -- "No Ordinary Family," "Detroit 1-8-7," "The Whole Truth," "My Generation," "Body of Proof" and "Off the Map" -- will try to buck a trend among new shows ABC has introduced in the past four seasons. ABC has, by our count, introduced 24 new dramas (not counting summer shows) between 2006-07 and 2009-10. Of those, 13 were off after just one season -- shows like "FlashForward," "Eastwick," "Big Shots" and "Six Degrees." Six more spanned just two seasons.

"Lost" is done. "Ugly Betty" was canceled. "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's" are beginning to seriously show their age. Kelsey Grammer's "Hank" and "Eastwick" were complete failures. "Flash Forward" was a mess and "V" has been a disappointment. "Scrubs" and "Better Off Ted" have sadly been canceled, "Happy Town" has, ahem, happily been canceled, "Romantically Challenged" has been quickly canceled, on and on. I think it's safe to say that ABC is in a bit of flux right now.
On the plus side for the network, "Dancing with the Stars" remains a ratings deliverer, and "The Bachelor" inexplicably is still watched by too many people. "Castle" has turned into a reliable little show for the Alphabet, and Nathan Fillion is actually about to enter the third season of a TV show. The network also found comedy gold in "Modern Family," arguably the best freshman comedy of last year (depending on the day,...

If you're one of the fortunate few who make it big in the television biz, shouldn't you take the opportunity to use that cushy cushion you have built for yourself and take a big risk on something exciting and new? Not if you're one of these big television producers.
Big shots like Shawn Ryan, David E. Kelley, and Shonda Rhimes all have pilots in the can that don't seem to stray much farther from the shows that made them the big shots that they are today.
For instance, Ryan, creator of the groundbreaking FX cop drama 'The Shield,' has another cop drama premiering with Fox called 'Ridealong.' Kelley, the writer/producer behind 'The Practice' and 'Boston Legal,' has created a reality drama for NBC called 'Kindred.' Even Rhimes, the woman behind ABC's 'Grey's Anatomy,' has another medical drama show for ABC called 'Off the Map.

AFI taps Mandel to lead school
The American Film Institute has named alumnus Robert Mandel dean of the AFI Conservatory, the organization said Tuesday. Mandel, a director whose credits include F/X, School Ties, Big Shots and The Substitute, will fill the position Sam Grogg vacated in June. "First, I want to cement AFI's reputation for being the finest film school in the country," said Mandel, who graduated from AFI in 1979. "I'm so impressed by how far it has come since I've been there."...
