After three seasons on MTV, the show launched a syndicated version in September 1989. The syndicated version lasted two seasons and the MTV version lasted two more seasons as well, both being canceled in 1990.
On the music video "Hook" by Blues Traveler, Ken Ober is featured prominently as a late night TV viewer who relaxes on a couch switching channels with a remote control; a nod to his former TV host job.
Darrell Hammond briefly worked as the audience warm-up comedian on this show. He was reunited with Colin Quinn in the summer of 1995 when both were hired on Saturday Night Live (1975), where they shared an office during their first season there. Additionally, Adam Sandler would join the cast of SNL after Remote Control ended.
