- TriviaMaribel Verdú was only 14 years old at the time of filming and she was already facing her first nude and her first sex scene. Not only was she a virgin, but she hadn't had a boyfriend. "I made love in the cinema long before I really did it in life," she said, "Ricardo Franco taught me. Imagine Ricardo, with how small he was, climbed on top of a huge Fabio Testi, telling me how he had to move me". Testi, by the way, "was not exactly a gentleman."

Gritty and obscure thriller with suspense , tension , intrigue and a twisted love story . Despite being released in theaters in 1991, this doomed film was shot in 1985, owing this long period of time between filming and its premiere to various financial and economic problems .Drama/Romance movie dealing with Carlos, Daniel and Luis, three friends who are traveling through Africa, arrive in Tangier and along the way , reflecting on the last years lived by each of them. Carlos (Fabio Testi) , dejected by the suicide of his wife, lives drinking and locked up in his bar, another one , Daniel , is a gunrunner , while Luis (Joaquin Hinojosa) has become the chief of police who goes after him . A logical confrontation arises between two of them , with the mediation of Carlos, does not lead to greater evils. The situation becomes even more complicated when Carlos meets a fifteen-year-old girl (Maribel Verdú) with whom he falls in love, without knowing that she is related to the most powerful crooks in the region, who also traffics in firearms , being a professional weapon smuggler .
This El Sueño of Tanger was born as a dream of adventures in Morocco, but became, due to financial problems of the producer, a real nightmare. This romantic drama premiered on May 24, 1991, directed by Ricardo Franco and starring Fabio Testi and Maribel Verdú in the main roles and a good support cast as Joaquin Hinojosa, Pastora Vega , Manuel Pereiro , and look for Juan Echanove as receptionist, among others. The low-key interpretations and slowless contribuye effectively to the flop of this mediocre yarn . The film is developed in fits and starts despite some clumsy mistakes. The picture is developed with suspense , emotion , so-so interpretation, and the exciting deeds are unfolded without absolute logic with a non-sense romance that doesn't work until the unexpected , silly finale.
Produced in short budget by Carlos Escobedo who said: "The financing problems were not mine, but the financing system of the Ministry of Culture , Pilar Miró took it up with me and Méndez-Leite was able to fix it" . Producer Escobedo denied that the team from The Dream of Tangier has been left without a salary. "There are only a few pending, but everything is arranged. As for why it took four years to be released after the conflict, he replies:" I've been looking for the best distribution ". Special mention for the realistic and evocative cinematography by prestigious cameraman Javier Aguirresarobe . The spotless pictorial photography is excellent with a willingness almost perfect of the elements of each shot , every sequence , every space ; being alrightly filmed on location . Cameraman Aguirresarobe , subsequently , would make a notorious career in Hollywood , such as : ¨Fright night , ¨The twilight saga : eclipse¨, ¨The road¨ , ¨The others¨ and many others . And nice musical score by Alberto Iglesias , being one of his first works , this prestigious composer is known for La piel que habito (2011), El topo (2011) and El jardinero fiel (2005) and he frequently works with Pedro Almodóvar. The motion picture was regularly made by Ricardo Franco. This was his fifth one , his first independient film was El Desastre of Annual (1970) . Later on , directing several decent , interesting and provoking films as Restos Del Naufragio, San Judas de Frontera, Berlín Blues , Después Tantos Años, La Buena Estrella and Lágrimas Negras . Rating 4.5/10. The flick will appeal to Spanish cinema hardcore aficionados , only .
