Director Luca Verdone is the brother of Carlo Verdone. This is his first movie.
A longer cut (26 minutes longer) was rarely broadcast on TV, with no plot differences but several differences in dialogues and in some sketches, which become more clear.
The idea of this movie comes from Carlo Verdone, who was looking for a subject for his brother's debut as director and was inspired by some advertisements of fat farms which were diffused in the 1980s.
Carlo Verdone stated that before filming the scene of the burial of the politician died in the sauna, his brother, director Luca Verdone, had an argument with his girlfriend and left the set in order to chase her. All the crew and cast members were very angry, so after a while Carlo Verdone decided to take the direction of the scene. The scene was shot in less than an hour. When Luca Verdone later came back to the set, he was very surprised that the work had already been done. Carlo Verdone stated also that from then on his brother became very precise.
