The original film elements were thought to have been lost, until 2021, when North American anime distributor, Discotek Media, located them in a Japanese film archive. All previous DVD editions of the film, including the Japanese releases, had to be produced from existing video sources.

Goofs
After the alien ship destroys the space station, the resulting wreckage floats across the screen towards the left comes to a complete stop. In the next shot, the debris is moving once again.

Alternate versions
The original VHS release in Japan, as well as the initial English-language releases, present the image in a matted widescreen format reflecting how it would have been seen in cinemas. The Japanese "Perfect Edition" laserdisc contained a full-frame open matte version at a 4:3 ratio, revealing more of the image than was seen in the widescreen version, and this version was later used for the 2002 Collector's Edition release in the US. The 2021 Blu-ray from Discotek contains both widescreen and full frame versions.

Comedy can cross national borders

Project A-Ko is one of the most action packed, funniest and fun anime's of the 1980's. Basically a comedy with lesbian undertones, as B-Ko battles A-Ko while trying to romance C-Ko, who is a total bubblehead and creator of the worst (but most beautiful) lunches in the universe. It helps to see this if one is a fan of 80's anime since it sends up nearly every single one of them. Just a really fun movie and well worth seeing.
