True to his word, director Denis Villeneuve has pulled no punches during the creation of Blade Runner 2049.
A student of science fiction after his Oscar-nominated work on Arrival – not to mention his involvement in Legendary’s long-in-development Dune reboot – Villeneuve has long made it clear that he hopes to honor Ridley Scott’s seminal sci-fi classic with the release of 2049, and the newly-unveiled prequel film, 2036: Nexus Dawn, helps fill the gap between one Blade Runner movie and the next.
And though it’s impossible to gauge a film’s quality based on its running time, we’re learning that Blade Runner 2049 will clock in at a whopping two hours and 32 minutes, plus another 11 minutes for credits. For the sake of comparison, that’s 35 minutes longer than the 1982 classic, which tapped out at one hour and 57 minutes.

Warner Bros. has today summoned two tantalizing TV spots for Blade Runner 2049 that bring answers and a whole lotta’ questions.
Whisking viewers off to far-future Los Angeles, each promo serves up a haunting peek at Denis Villeneuve’s long-in-development sequel. It’s the follow-up to Ridley Scott’s seminal sci-fi classic of ’84, so it’ll be interesting to see how 2049 fares in two months’ time. Will it be good enough to honor the Blade Runner name? Or, in the worst case scenario, will Villeneuve’s stunningly beautiful effort be written off as yet another unnecessary sequel? Time will tell.
If nothing else, Blade Runner 2049 is shaping up to be a feast for the eyes. From the skyscraping advertisements for Atari – yes, in the warped future of 2049, business is booming for the dormant video game giant – to the purple glow illuminating the face of Ryan Gosling’s K, Villeneuve...

Playing with toys, in a way, is like making your own movie.
As a child, there's a strong chance you used to create your own universes and narratives with some of your favourite toys. Whether it was with Barbie Dolls, Hot Wheels, Mr. Potato Heads or My Little Ponies, you got to choose the story, giving these inanimate objects their own voices and dialogues.
That's probably why toys are such an easy subject to turn into a movie. These are characters and beings that were literally meant to tell stories, and we've seen this on the big screen time and again.
This fall, My Little Pony: The Movie is coming to theatres, and while some of us are nostalgic for those colourful little horses, there are now new generations...

Now that the Game Of Thrones season seven opener has aired (our spoiler-filled review is here), here are the answers to one or two questions that may or may not have floated up while you were watching…
How come Walder Frey was in it? Didn’t Arya slit his throat last season?

How do you engineer a compelling follow-up to one of cinema’s greatest cult classics? That’s the conundrum currently facing Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario, Dune), the director at the helm of Blade Runner 2049.
It’s a sequel 30 years in the making, and though Ridley Scott’s genre-defining original struggled to make much of a dent at the box office back in ’82 – in fact, critics at the time argued that Blade Runner was little more than a textbook example of style over substance – the engrossing story of Rick Deckard has since wormed its way into the history books as a visually astute sci-fi masterpiece. No pressure for 2049, then.
But during the ongoing press tour for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Dave Bautista was asked about his involvement in Blade Runner 2049. Bound by an Nda, the former wrestler and Mma fighter was naturally cagey about Villeneuve’s long-in-development sequel,...

Between 1979 and ’82, the back-to-back release of Alien and Blade Runner helped cement Ridley Scott’s status as one of the very best sci-fi filmmakers working in the industry, and that legacy continues to burn brightly even to this day.
Case in point: 2017 not only heralds the arrival of Alien: Covenant, Scott’s prequel-sequel that takes the fundamental story strands of Prometheus and steeps them in an acidic pool of old-school horror, but there’s also Blade Runner 2049 to consider. The latter isn’t actually directed by Ridley Scott; in his place, Arrival and soon-to-be Dune director Denis Villeneuve has taken control of the sequel 30 years in the making. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Ridley Scott doesn’t have a vested interest in 2049 – he is an executive producer on the follow-up, after all.
And so, when quizzed on Blade Runner 2049 during his recent interview with the Associated Press...

Hasbro is going back to square one with its G.I. Joe movies...
This isn’t the biggest surprise, but Hasbro has now revealed that it won’t be pressing ahead with a new G.I. Joe sequel, instead opting to take the movie series back to square one for a reboot.
Hasbro is moving more heavily into films itself, and has been developing its own movie universe. Furthermore, it’s coughed up itself to make My Little Pony: The Movie, that arrives in cinemas in the autumn (whereas on the likes of the Transformers films, its licensed its property to other companies).
But with G.I. Joe, we’ve had two films thus far that have made decent money, but won few people over. As such, Hasbro is cutting its losses there, and starting over.
According to Hasbro global brand licensing boss Simon Waters, “the world has changed,...

Further revealing his inner Brony, the legendary William Shatner has signed up for a My Little Pony role...
"Is it true you might do voice work for [My Little Pony season 7]? I'm actually a big fan of you", a Twitter user named BeaatModeBrony5 politely asked William Shatner a few days ago.
See related Marvel's Iron Fist: the full trailer Daredevil season 3: Vincent D’Onofrio mulls Fisk's return Marvel's Luke Cage season 2 confirmed by Netflix Marvel's The Defenders: more images arrive
The Star Trek legend's response was simple: "Already did."
"I'm a brony and friendship is magic", Shatner wrote in an earlier Tweet, which instigated the rumour that he's jumping on board the Hasbro series. Now, it seems to be confirmed.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is the latest incarnation of the show. Its seventh season is expected early this year. There's also My Little Pony: The Movie, which is coming in October.

Emojis. Playmobil. Lego. Brands seem to be here to stay in movies. Ryan looks at its rise and rise...
On paper, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl probably shouldn’t have been a hit. Earlier movies based on Disney’s theme park rides certainly hadn’t been a success - least of all The Country Bears, a family film released a year before Pirates and largely shunned by audiences. Disney boss Michael Eisner moaned at Pirates’ steep $140m bill. Did it have to be so expensive? And could Johnny Depp - hardly known as a bankable star - really lead the movie to box office glory?
The answer was a resounding yes; released in the summer of 2003, Pirates Of The Caribbean made over $650m worldwide. Pirates also appeared to break two curses in one blow: first, it proved that adventure movies set on the...

Bradley Cooper's wise guy snark may now be synonymous with Rocket Raccoon, but did you know that the Guardians of the Galaxy character could've sounded very different?
In his latest Facebook Q&A session with fans, director James Gunn has revealed that non other than Danny DeVito was at one point tested out for the voice of rocket.
Responding to a suggestion that DeVito could replace Cooper in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Gunn said: "Not gonna happen.

Bronies unite: there's a new My Little Pony film on the way...
One of the films we've got queued up on our to-watch disc pile is Laurent Malaquais' documentary Bronies, which comes with the subtitle 'The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans Of My Little Pony'. And we've just picked up the 2014 documentary A Brony Tale, directed by Brent Hodge, as well.
It would be fair to say that My Little Pony geekdom is quite pronounced right now, primarily off the back of the 2010 animated series, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. And Hasbro has been sitting up and taking notice. So much so that it's announced plans for a new My Little Pony big screen adventure, which will arrive in cinemas 21 years after My Little Pony: The Movie (which boasted the voice talents of Danny DeVito and Nancy Cartwright, no less).

[1] The endearingly geeky, impressively fast-talking Fine Brothers are at it again. The same guys who managed to sum up nearly five decades of Doctor Who [2] in six minutes and every single Best Picture winner through 2009 [3] in five minutes have now released "50 Animated Spoilers in 3 Minutes." (Spoiler alert: They actually make it in two minutes and thirty seconds. But I guess "50 Animated Spoilers in 2 Minutes and 30 Seconds" just doesn't have the same ring to it.) The Fines don't discriminate when it comes to ruining endings -- the video touches upon everything from enduring childhood classics like An American Tail and adult-oriented favorites like South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut to long-forgotten endeavors like Fluppy Dogs. Watch the video after the jump. If you're wondering why no Disney classics were included in "50 Animated Spoilers," it's because the Fine Brothers have already put out a whole other video containing "50 Disney Spoilers in 3 Minutes.

Horror fanatics are still buzzing like chainsaws over the Academy Awards’ genre montage. Anywhere there could be a conversation about it online, there was one. Many were upset over the Twilight ‘tweens’ participation, as if their mere presence sent a message about the state of scary in Hollyweird, USA.
A few seemed happy, though, to just get a glimpse of their beloved Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 if only for a few seconds. But many called the selections generic and thoughtless, demanding the likes of Demons and TerrorVision instead (well, maybe not TerrorVision; that was just me).
How about Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer? Re-Animator? It’s Alive? Tombs of the Blind Dead? Coffin Joe? No list is perfect, but with a bit more care and a phone call to any one of us, the Oscars could have elevated that section into a real scream. Or maybe they...

Occasionally I'll look through my 'labels' in the internal machinery of this blog and think "my god! I never talk about [insert actor's name here]. Why? What's wrong with me?!?" Yesterday was such a day. The great Madeline Kahn would have celebrated her 67th birthday had she not left us far too soon, ten years ago in fact. Sniffle.
"Here I stand the goddess of desire, set men on fire... I have this power.
Morning, noon and night it's drink and dancing, some quick romancing...
And then a shower."
Team Experience
So, with fond memories of the genius comedienne on my mind, I asked a couple of my guest bloggers to tell me they're favorite Madeline Kahn moments. I need help you see. Obviously I haven't expressed enough love for her right here on my own. The damning evidence: No label before today.
