Taylor Sheridan brought a whole new world out in the open with his neo-western drama Yellowstone. The show featuring the fictional Dutton family quickly gained popularity when it premiered in 2018. And with the upcoming Season 5 Part 2, the show is all set to create magic on the screen for one last time.
With the anticipation soaring high, the fact that actor Kevin Costner is no longer part of the Yellowstone universe has been a point of heartbreak for the fans. He played the patriarch John Dutton in the show and was part of the drama series since 2018. However, due to several scheduling conflicts and behind-the-scenes drama, the actor left the project after filming the first part of the fifth season.

With plans for a new RoboCop film seemingly not advancing, we’re now getting a(nother) RoboCop TV series instead.
Making a movie isn’t easy. Making a good movie, then, is presumably even harder. Making a great RoboCop film though? That has to be close to impossible. While each film in the beloved splatterpunk action franchise contains elements that demand repeat viewings, only the 1987 original is generally considered to be an all-time great. You could argue that audiences and executives been chasing the dragon ever since, looking to replicate the formula that created a genre classic.
That hasn’t stopped plenty of people from trying though. From the original film’s sequels to the 2014 remake, not to mention Neill Blomkamp’s ill-fated RoboCop Returns – a highly-anticipated project that would never come to fruition – nothing has matched the heady blend of graphic violence, sharp satire and earnest charm that Paul Verhoeven’s original possesses.

In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Initiations", Chakotay (Robert Beltran) undertakes a personal mission on a shuttlecraft only to be attacked by a Kazon teenager named Kar (Aron Eisenberg), an adolescent out on his first mission. In the brief battle, Chakotay accidentally destroys Kar's ship, but takes the time to rescue him. Kar explains that the Kazon are an honor-bound species and that Chkotay, in rescuing him, robbed him of his ability to prove his worth to his elders. Kar is furious and embarrassed. Kar's superiors find Chakotay and explain that the only way to restore Kar's honor is for Chakotay to kill him or for Kar to kill Chakotay. The Starfleet officer and the Kazon go on the lam, trying to find a solution to their plight that doesn't involve murder.

“Ms. Marvel” is here.
And if you haven’t fallen in love with the show, which mixes a decidedly naturalistic emotional core with Y.A. flourishes and, of course, superhero derring-do, it’s only a matter of time.
Iman Vellani (in her debut) plays Kamala Khan, a self-described “brown girl from New Jersey,” who dreams of becoming a superhero like her favorite Captain Marvel. After a family heirloom unlocks the power within herself, she must navigate a complex relationship with her friends, family, and newfound powers.
Part of what makes the new show work so well are its zippy visuals, who in the first and sixth episodes are handled by the directing duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who bring a new sensibility to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even superheroes have to pass their driver’s ed classes, and nobody in the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels that more than “Ms. Marvel” herself, Kamala Khan.
Played by 19-year-old Iman Vellani, Kamala learns how to control her mysterious, energy-projection powers while balancing the challenges of high school guidance counselors and traditional parents who won’t let her stay out too late. If that sounds like a cross between a typical Marvel movie and a coming-of-age John Hughes movie, that was exactly the plan.
“All the John Hughes movies, like ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day,’ are obviously a reference,” director Adil El Arbi told Variety. “The TV show ‘Parker Lewis Can’t Lose,’ which is based on the John Hughes movies, Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’ movies, all the American high-school TV shows, like ‘Saved by the Bell,’ ‘Boy Meets World.’ We tried to convey that style.”

“Dexter” and “Nurse Jackie” producer Clyde Phillips has signed an overall deal with Showtime and CBS Television Studios.
As part of the deal, Phillips will develop projects for both entities that can air on platforms within or outside the ViacomCBS fold. The deal was jointly announced by Showtime president of entertainment Gary Levine and CBS Television Studios president David Stapf.
“Securing the talents of a gifted writer/producer/showrunner like Clyde is a huge bonus for the Studio,” said Stapf in a statement. “There are few creators out there that have successfully crossed so many genres, and we’re fortunate to have him join our team. Clyde Phillips is getting back in business with Showtime. The former Dexter and Nurse Jackie showrunner has signed a joint overall deal with the premium cable network and CBS Television Studios. Under the pact, Phillips will develop projects for both entities that can air on platforms within or outside the ViacomCBS umbrella.
This marks the first joint overall deal for siblings Showtime and CBS TV Studios, both overseen by David Nevins, which have increased their creative collaborations over the past couple of years. The pact will also likely provide fuel for the never-ending speculation about a potential Dexter follow-up at Showtime.
“Clyde is a world-class showrunner and filmmaker who brings intelligence, depth, maturity and style to both drama and comedy series,” said Gary Levine, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks. “Our many collaborations in the past have been deeply gratifying, and I am thrilled that we will be working together again.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: When was the first time you saw a TV character that you felt represented you or your experience? Who was it? How did you feel? (This is jumping on the #FirstTimeISawMe hashtag about representation.)
Eric Deggans (@deggans), NPR
This is a tough question, because I don’t think I’ve seen a character like me yet on television (black comics nerd who loves playing drums, has a thirst for pop culture, spent his teens grooving to Frank Zappa and Parliament/Funkadelic and has a passion for racial issues and opposing stereotypes in media. Nope, haven’t seen that character yet). But the first time I saw...

John Pinette, the chubby stand-up comedian who portrayed a hapless carjacking victim in the final episode of Seinfeld, has died. He was 50. Pinette died of natural causes Saturday at a hotel in Pittsburgh, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office said Sunday evening. Pinette's agent confirmed his death. The self-deprecating Pinette was a portly presence on stage, frequently discussing his weight on stand-up specials Show Me the Buffett, I'm Starvin'! and Still Hungry. Pinette had been working on another stand-up project when he died, his agent, Nick Nuciforo, said. "He should be celebrated for the amazing comedian he was," Nuciforo said.

If you search IMDb’s incredibly handy “plot keywords” for the phrase “rollerblading,” only twenty-eight titles pop up, and most of them aren’t even truly concerned with rollerblading as an actual plot element. The number one rated entry is “Skitchin,’” which is actually a video game from 1994. The number two rated entry? The UK’s uproariously funny series “Absolutely Fabulous,” which has absolutely nothing to do with rollerblading. You’ll have to scroll all the way down to the exact middle of the list – entry number 14 – to find Rob Bowman’s Airborne (above 2002’s Rollerball, below an Erik von Detten-starring Disney movie called Brink! about a pack of teens who call themselves “Soul-Skaters” because “Hammy Sad People Skating Together Because You Don’t Get Me, Mom” wasn’t punchy enough), which is an immense cinematic tragedy, simply because Airborne is the best film about rollerblading ever made. It also turns twenty today. There...

I’ll be damn if I didn’t recognize Corin Nemec in “Dragon Wasps”, the latest Syfy Channel movie of the week waiting to be announced. He sure has come a long way from “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose”, and for a moment there his career got something of a resurgence when he joined (albeit briefly) the cast of “Stargate: SG1. Nowadays, Nemec spends his time doing low-budget creature movies like “Dragon Wasps”. Hey, those mortgage bills don’t pay themselves, you know. So what’s “Dragon Wasps” all about? Wasps that grow up to be fire-breathing dragon-ish creatures, I would imagine based on the plot synopsis and trailer below. When her father mysteriously disappears on an expedition, beautiful entomologist Gina Humphries and her fiery assistant, Rhonda, set out to search the rain forests of Belize. Due to numerous robberies and assaults in the jungle, they are escorted by heavily-armed soldiers.

Thankfully, her return to The Young and the Restless will only last a few episodes, keeping her free to stay on Days.

Phillips recently joined Lionsgate’s dark comedy Nurse Jackie, and his duties as executive producer/showrunner on the Showtime series will fall under his new pact with Lionsgate, which also covers development. Phillips was already talking to Lionsgate about renewing his overall deal when the opportunity to take over Nurse Jackie came up when original showrunners Linda Wallem and Liz Brixius stepped down. “All the stars aligned,” Phillips said. “I thought Nurse Jackie was really good, and I thought it could be great.” He also liked the prospect of working with Nurse Jackie star/exec producer Edie Falco and the fact that he was not asked to just come in and “babysit” an established series. “I was asked to reboot the show, and that’s a challenge I willingly and happily accept.” Related: Showtime Renews ‘Nurse Jackie...

Showtime has renewed Nurse Jackie for a fifth season, following the departure of two of its executive producers, the network announced today. Former Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips will replace Linda Wallem and Liz Brixius next year. Phillips was an executive producer for the first four seasons of Dexter, but more important, he created and executive produced Parker Lewis Can't Lose. Somehow, Nurse Jackie does seem like the midpoint between those two shows, except with drugs.

Beyond Dexter, Phillips returns to Showtime with a number of other television creations under his belt, including Get Real (the tragically cancelled 1999 Anne Hathaway-Jesse Eisenberg series), Suddenly Susan, and Parker Lewis Can’t Lose. Considering Phillips’ experience in turning a serial killer into the father of the year,...

Showtime has renewed "Nurse Jackie" for a fifth season, and has hired former "Dexter" showrunner Clyde Phillips to take over as the new boss. "Jackie" co-creators Liz Brixius and Linda Wallem are departing after running the Emmy-winning dramedy since the first season, and Phillips is an interesting replacement choice with some clear pros and cons. On the plus side, he's a seasoned veteran who has worked in both comedy ("Parker Lewis Can't Lose" is my favorite of his work on that side of things) and in dramas, and should hopefully be able to balance the two sides of "Jackie." On the minus side, as good as...

“This jumpy horror yarn (headlined by Corin Nemec and Charisma Carpenter) takes you on the journey with a group of reality television ghost hunters as they get trapped in a haunted plantation home. Their initial attempt for creating an entertaining reality show soon becomes a lot darker than anticipated. Through their attempt to uncover the many secrets in this haunted house, they become convinced that they are not only in the presence of the dead but surrounded by evil, supernatural activity. As fleeting spirits are spotted, fear becomes apparent. Crew members start going missing, objects around are disappearing and the house itself feels alive. It's time for more various oddball trailers from the far reaches of cinema obscurity. So, without any further ado, let's check out some "coming attractions"!
Dr. Alien (1989):
Ah, Empire Pictures. What's not to love about the infamous production company that gave us such 80's cult favorites as Ghoulies, Trancers, Re-Animator, TerrorVision and Psychos in Love? Well, here's one from Empire that I bet you probably missed; Dr. Alien. This goofy sci-fi teen comedy stars Billy Jacoby (Just One of the Guys, Parker Lewis Can't Lose) as Wesley, a nerdy student who becomes a sexual dynamo after being injected with a serum by his new smokin' hot teacher, Ms. Xenobia played by Judy Landers (Stewardess School, Armed and Dangerous), who just happens to be an alien. Sound ridiculous enough for ya yet? This nugget of pure late-80's video fun was directed by David DeCoteau, who got his start directing...

The wildest week on the comic book industry calendar is officially underway in San Diego right now. Opening night tweets percolated out of Comic-Con International last night, featuring fear, costumes and even some humility (for charity) from Brian Michael Bendis.
Apple's new operating system upgrade was also a popular source of stress and delight yesterday. Creators collectively assessed which scanners and apps on their desktops managed to be compatible with Os X Lion, and Mitch Breitweiser predicted the future of Apple computing. His thoughts, Dan Slott on "Captain America: The First Avenger" and Matt Fraction's space shuttle contemplation ranked atop our list of favorite tweets list after the jump.

Our friend Kyle Rankin who did the excellent insect post apocalyptic film Infestation (review) is is finally done the pilot for his new post-apocalyptic web series called Nuclear Family which will premiere as a feature at the 2011 Fantaspoa film festival.
Rankin both wrote and directed the project which stars Corin Nemec (Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Stargate), Ray Wise(Twin Peaks, Reaper) and Kinsey Packard (Infestation).
Synopsis:
Nuclear Family tells the story of a young couple, John & Lynn, who are trying to survive in the woods after a nuclear holocaust. They stay on the move with their 11-year old daughter Pauline... all the while searching for their missing 8-year old son, Grant. Meanwhile, society has disintegrated and the family must stay one step ahead of the Berserkers: lawless, wild, brutal men who rape, pillage, & destroy as a way of life (lead by a sadistic figure called The Man: Ray Wise).

Back in 1989, Eddie Murphy was on top of the world. The man couldn’t fail!! Then, he made a TV pilot for CBS and they were like “Mmmmmno.” It was called What’s Allen Watching and starred Eddie and Corin Nemec from Parker Lewis Can’t Lose (oh, but he can) who was actually one of my first major crushes as a child. While CBS didn’t pick the show up, they still had the good graces to air the pilot as a one hour long special. And I don’t want to burn any network television bridges, but CBS… what the f*ck were you thinking??? This is Hilarious. Eddie, drop whatever you’re doing (Pluto Nash sequel, transvestite, etc.) and pick up where this show left off! It’s gold. (via Questlove’s Twitter)...

From American World Pictures comes Mark Atkins’ ambitious monster flick “Sand Sharks”, a film that the “Battle of Los Angeles” director describes as a “fish out of water” story. Get it? Sand sharks? Fish out of a water? Oh, boy. Then again, what did you expect from someone who used to work for The Asylum? All kidding aside, I’m always down for another cornball creature feature, particularly since this particular adventure stars “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose” alumni Corin Nemec in the lead role. Also on-board to battle these sandy beasts are Gina Holden (“Saw 3D”), Brooke Hogan (“Devour”), and a small collection of extremely pretty faces that are ready and waiting to meet their respective makers in a slew of interesting ways. Fantastic! No word yet as to when or where this one will see the light of day, though I wouldn’t hold your breath for a theatrical release.

Hey. You guys like Stephen King, right? Well, it turns out "The Stand" is gonna be turned into a real-life movie (or perhaps movies) produced by CBS. I've never read "The Stand," but I've seen most of the mini-series starring Marshall's dad from "How I Met Your Mother" and Parker Lewis. Other people were in that movie, right?
In 5th grade, I had a friend that I despised because I impressed the teacher by reading "Pet Semetery" in class, then like a week later, this friend of mine was spotted reading "The Stand" during recess. Fucking one-upper.
Anyway, Hollywood's been on this big, serialized one-a-year franchise kick for a while ("Lord of the Rings," "Harry Potter," "Twilight") and I guess "The Stand" (and the "Dark Tower" series (which is also being made)) will work well to fit into that slot, if that's the plan.

Okay, that’s a little more like it. After a morose episode last week that, while solid, rehashed old themes and ideas, we got a new episode of Supernatural that... Okay, rehashed old episodes and ideas. But at least it was fun.
Dean is still shacking up with his lady and not-son, keeping them essentially under lockdown just in case some unknown evil attacks them. Meanwhile, Sam is doing the Hunter thing, investigating a series of murders linked to the disappearances of six-month old babies.
And yes, we’re already starting off in a weirdly repetitive place right at the top of the episode. Thankfully – though perhaps also confusingly – the writers avoid the obvious connections here.
With Dean, we don’t get some sort of metaphor for “not being able to protect your kids forever.” Instead, it’s literally just Dean realizing he can’t protect his family forever, and...

Infestation director Kyle Rankin dropped Bloody Disgusting a line to reveal that he's back behind the camera for a new genre film, Nuclear Family, which stars Corin Nemec (Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Stargate), Ray Wise (Reaper, Twin Peaks), and Kinsey Packard (Infestation). You'll find the first details, along with 3 images by reading on. "It's a post-apocalyptic action/drama with lots of fighting, blood, and gunplay," Rankin tells Bloody Disgusting. "It's about a small family trying to survive and find their missing son while staying one step ahead of a brutal band of lawless, horrible men called the Berserkers." He continues, "We've started shooting in the hills of Topanga, CA, and will wrap on the 20th." Watch for webisodes coming soon.

Scary Stud of the Year 2009 Billy Garberina graciously accepts his crown and graces us with an update on his new films, his low-paying career path, and his utter elation at being the sexiest man in horror of the past year. Votes don't lie, folks!
Read about how awesome Billy is. I dare you.
How does it feel to be a Scary Stud of the Year?
It makes me feel 12 times more sexy than being Sexy Stud of the Month!...
On the other hand, it only makes me feel 1/10th as Sexy as being Sexy Stud of The Decade. So, does that make me 12x the stud I was, or merely 1/10th the Stud I could be?
I was watching Pumping Iron for the first time ever during the final vote rallies and gleaned some deep insight from a 28 year old Arnold Gubernator about being a champion. Like Arnold at 28, I feel like I'm coming.

From Jigsaw to Jacko, this week's DVD release are a real mixed bag. Some of the higher profile films hitting a digital format today include Drew Barrymore's Whip It, the Bruce Willis sci-fi action film Surrogates, Saw VI, the poorly received comedy I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, and Michael Jackson's This Is It. Digging a bit deeper, we also have the indie drama Little Ashes, which stars Robert Pattinson as Salvador Dali, Jennifer Baichwal's metaphysical documentary Act of God, and the direct-to-dvd Thomas Jane noir-thriller Give 'Em Hell Malone. All this plus the U.S. release of Pontypool and Parker Lewis Can't Lose: Season 2! What movies will be in your queue this week? Oh, Corin Nemec. He soared to great heights with Parker Lewis Can't Lose, before quickly losing his tenuous grip on superstardom. But he never really went away on the big or small screen. We can't forget his classic Operation Dumbo Drop, Stargate Sg-1, or National Lampoon's Robodoc -- a film he not only starred in, but also produced.
But back in the day -- the early '90s to be exact -- things were going well. He'd had a big role in Francis Ford Coppola's Tucker: The Man and His Dream, was starring in a hit teen show, and had fancy technology coming to chill in "At Home with Corky Nemec." This super-strange interview, which you can see after the jump, sees the actor show his living room, kitchen, and bedroom. But it's not just some simple, boring Q&A. As you all know, we lost Brittany Murphy yesterday at the all-too-young age of 32.
She was never my favorite actress, nor my least favorite. There were roles that I loved, and roles that I loathed. But her presence in Hollywood was always a joy, mainly because I matured with Murphy, born the same year as myself. She didn't start in the biz until 1991 with her first role in Murphy Brown, so I didn't grow up with her, but she was one of the few who charmed me in my high school youth and never faded away.
Perhaps I spotted her appearances on Kids Incorporated or Parker Lewis Can't Lose. Or, while I never followed Drexell's Class, maybe I saw a peek of her as Brenda Drexell. But in my memories, she has always been Molly Morgan of 1993's Almost Home -- the very short-lived Torkelsons spin-off. Murphy was spunky and charming,...

Actress Brittany Murphy passed away Sunday at the age of 32. Perhaps best known for her work in '8 Mile,' 'Girl, Interrupted,' and 'Clueless,' Murphy was a longtime industry veteran with dozens of credits. She first appeared on TV shows like "Kids Incorporated," "Drexell's Class," and "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," later starring on the big screen, appearing alongside actors including Angelina Jolie, Michael Douglas and Ashton Kutcher. Her film credits in addition to those mentioned above include 'Sin City,' 'Little Black Book,' 'Just Married," "Don't Say a Word,' 'Riding in Cars with Boys,' 'Uptown Girls,' and 'Sidewalks of New York.' The actress was also the longtime voice of Hank Hill's niece Luanne Platter on Fox's "King of the Hill," and also voiced a character in the animated film 'Happy Feet.' Murphy said in a 2004 interview...
