Jones' manager, Bobbie Edrck, informed Lorimar Television and ABC that her client was interested in doing a TV series. Lorimar had two pilot pilot scripts developed for him: a comedy and a drama that would ultimately become "Gabriel's Fire." Lorimar President Les Moonves decided that the drama had the better chance of success, as Jones was more identifiable to audiences in a drama.
Gabriel's office and building on this TV show is across the street from the building that was used for the movie Only the Lonely (1991).
