Last month, Vin Di Bona was at a car show when he struck up a conversation with a fellow gearhead. When Di Bona mentioned that he was the producer behind “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” the 40-something man exclaimed, “My kid and I watch that show all the time!” — and then proceeded to sing the familiar theme.
When “Afv” launched 35 years ago, that man would have been in elementary school. Di Bona, who has watched his series now span multiple generations, never gets tired hearing about its impact.
“We see it in the studio,” he says. “I can’t tell you how many times someone will say, ‘I watched this with my parents.’”
“Afv” launched as a special in 1989 on a bit of a lark: As video cameras had finally reached critical mass in American homes, the idea was that there must be enough hilarious footage out there to create a one-time clip show.

A legend is no longer with us, for Arleen Sorkin has died at the age of 67. The news was first reported by voice actor Neil Kaplan and later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. She is survived by her husband and their two sons. DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn shared a tribute to Sorkin on Instagram, and her old friend and co-star Mark Hamill wrote: "Not just a wonderful talent, but a truly wonderful person. I'm grateful not only to have worked with her, but to have been her friend."
Mrs. Sorkin is most remembered for being the original voice of the DC Comics character Harley Quinn. She played the part across 17 years, beginning in "Batman: The Animated Series" in 1992 and for the last time in the 2009 video game, "Batman: Arkham Asylum." We'll talk about this part of her legacy soon, but first, let's be clear — Sorkin was not a one-trick pony.

Lifetime, the dream factory that gave us that "Saved by the Bell" biopic last year, is back with its newest vision of God: a behind-the-scenes take on "Full House." It premieres August 22. Look at that picture. That's a real thing that your retinas are supposed to handle. Let's name all the stuff we want this movie to teach us. 1. Was there tension between Bob Saget and Dave Coulier when they both hosted home video series? We all remember that Bob Saget hosted "America's Funniest Home Videos" for years, but you may have forgotten that Dave Coulier hosted a similar series called "America's Funniest People" on ABC. Did Bob ever say to Dave, "Step off my game, b*tch"? I want to know. 2. Was there a casting session where a diabolical director decided Comet would play Air Bud? Did you know the golden retriever who played Comet would end up playing Air Bud?...

The breakup song is a rite of passage for just about every singer. Mostly, they're sad-sack anthems about moving on, but every so often, the wound is raw enough that the artist is inspired to issue their former lover a cutting message: I'm better off without you.
That's what Katy Perry seems to be doing with her new single "Part of Me," which she premiered at the Grammy Awards on Sunday. With lyrics like "Days like this I want to drive away/ Pack bags and watch your shadow fade/ You chewed me up and spit me out like I was poison in your mouth/ You took my life, you drank me down/ But that was then and this is now,...
