Esteemed veteran actor John Christopher Jones returns to the podcast (his first time was episode 13) to talk about conquering the “real fear” he had of going back to work, in a guest starring role on the television series New Amsterdam, while dealing with the unpredictable and often debilitating effects of worsening Parkinson’s. Then he takes us on a brief tour of the various directors that worked well for him over the years, and others that, sometimes hilariously, fell a little short, like José Quintero and his maddening direction in the 1985 production of The Iceman Cometh with Jason Robards. […]

(1981-1989 – The Three Dragons)
After the early 1980’s, Golden Harvest started to branch out into the modern-day world leaving behind the Kung Fu cinema age and progressing into something massive. From 1981 onwards, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao (The Three Dragons) were about to embark on a sensational journey, progressing from there Kung Fu genre into modern-day Martial Arts and stunt work, something Shaw Brothers were left behind and Golden Harvest was to be the new global company.
Jackie Chan back then headed to the United states to try to break into the international market, but the movies he appeared in didn’t really take off and Jackie was also disappointed with the filming of The Big Brawl. Jackie felt he never had chance to show off his action choreography and wasn’t given the space to add his world of experience to the movie. Although it was Directed...

Any film that opens with a massive car crash and thens sees Donnie Yen, now defrosted following the accident, take a massive piss (not the Only one in the movie either may I add) right out in the open, is guaranteed to be an attention grabber! If that’s not enough, Iceman is filled from the get-go with amazing wire-fu stunts mixed with some eye-popping CGI.

The Iceman Cometh, Clarence Fok's 1989 Hong Kong martial arts film, achieved classic status on the strength of Fok's facility with multiple elements: humor that could be silly without being juvenile, dazzlingly choreographed action sequences, a story filled with wit, and charming lead performances (Yuen Biao, Maggie Cheung). There's a kind of elegance to it. Iceman, the new remake starring Donnie Yen and directed by Law Wing-cheong, is aggressively inelegant. When Ming warrior He Ying (Yen) awakens in modern Hong Kong after centuries frozen in slumber, he's burdened by his history — being unfairly accused of treason, stripped of honor, his family slaughtered. He's carrying a time-travel device that is activated by a metaphorically crude act, and tha...

Crazy stunts, complexly choreographed fight sequences, sinister villains. There’s no doubt that Special ID knows its target audience and does what it does extremely well. Fans of director Clarence Fok Yiu-leung’s previous hits The Iceman Cometh and Black Panther Warriors will be heaven as his newest showcases three mind-blowing fight scenes and tops it off with a suspenseful battle inside (and outside) a moving vehicle that impresses with its lack of CGI.
Special ID tells of a cop named Chen (aka ‘Dragon’ played by the never-aging Donnie Yen who’s been starring in these things for 30 years) and his team of comrades who go undercover in one of China’s most ruthless underworld organizations to stop a gang leader. Andy On plays plays the nasty villain who swears to find every traitor and make him or her pay with their lives. Agents are turning up dead. Desperate to...

The Donnie Yen starring remake of Clarence Fok's The Iceman Cometh is shaping up to be a rather big deal. So big, in fact, that they're splitting it up into two films rather than the originally intended single outing. And when you've got that much frozen-ancient-warrior-reawakening-in-modern-times action what you clearly need is a longer trailer. So here's one that's twice as long as the original. Marvel at Donnie's flowing locks!...

Iceman 3D, Law Wing Cheong's big budget remake of Clarence Fok's 1989 film The Iceman Cometh has been in the headlines pretty much non-stop since production began, with stories of extensive re-shoots, a ballooning budget and even problems filming on location in Hong Kong slowing things down. Now news arrives that the time-travelling martial arts epic, which stars Donnie Yen as a Ming era warrior thawed out in modern day Hong Kong, will be not one film, but two.Twitch has learned from a source within the production that the current edit of Iceman 3D is somewhere in the region of 3.5 hours long, and rather than dump the extra footage to get the film down to a more audience-friendly two hours, producers have opted to cut...

Donnie Yen is all thawed out and ready to go in Iceman 3D, the Law Wing Cheong directed remake of the 1989 Clarence Fok directed The Iceman Cometh, with Yen playing the role of a Ming era warrior frozen on a mountaintop only to be thawed out in modern times. Action ensues.Production has been quite difficult on this one with principal photography running well behind schedule and the budget ballooning to double the original amount but the first trailer has arrived and the footage they've got on camera is certainly attractive enough, although fans will note the extensive use of the tight shots and rapid edits that often denote the heavy presence of body doubles. Take a look at the trailer below....

Kung Fu megastar Donnie yen as just recently starting filming the remake of the 1989 Yuen Biao movie “The Iceman Cometh” which will be shot in 3D.
The movie will see Donnie take on the role that Yuen Biao did so well in 1989, which also starred Maggie Cheung and Yuen Wah, but the cast for the latest movie will include Simon yam, Wang Baoqiang and Eva Huang. A few months back the director of the movie claimed Yuen Biao will make a surprise cameo and also fight Donnie yen, but nothing was mentioned about this in the last few weeks.
The budget for the movie is $150 million (Us), so we should expect some big action sequences and great fight scenes and if the remake is anything like the original, then be ready for a great movie.

A press conference was held yesterday in Beijing to announced the production of Special Identity (特殊身份). The modern actioner will be helmed by Clarence Fok, the director of the cult hit Naked Killer and The Iceman Cometh (1989). Not only will action star Donnie Yen will be starring in the film, he will also serve as producer and action director. Of course, no martial arts fight scenes will truly be exciting without a worthy opponent to bring out the best performance and that is where Vincent Zhao (aka Chiu Man-Cheuk), fellow action star of The Blade and True Legend, comes into the picture. On their first collaboration together, Yen says. "We never worked together before, although I really appreciate his talent...Vincent and I will do...

The latest project with Donnie yen attached to it is the classic 1989 movie “The Iceman Cometh” which starred kung fu legend Yuen Biao and the beautiful Maggie Cheung. When i first heard about this, i wasn’t sure how to take it as im a big fan of the original and thought Yuen Biao and Maggie Cheung did a fantastic job.
The movie will once again be shot in 3D, why? im not to sure, it seems this is the way they want to make movies from now on, but i feel it only works on big blockbuster movies and this movie doesn’t need it. Raymond Yip and Christopher Sun will both co-direct the movie with Stephen Shiu returning once again as the producer of the movie.
