Publisher Puffin U.K. will release “The Roald Dahl Classic Collection,” which will have the author’s original texts.
“The Roald Dahl Classic Collection” will be available alongside the newly released Puffin Roald Dahl books for young readers, “which are designed for children who may be navigating written content independently for the first time,” Puffin said. “Readers will be free to choose which version of Dahl’s stories they prefer.”
Last week, Puffin was in the eye of a storm when it emerged that the works of Dahl, who died in 1990, had been rewritten, with the phrase “enormously fat” edited to just “enormous” and “most formidable female” to “most formidable woman” among numerous other examples from his most famous books. People who opposed the edits include author Salman Rushdie, who described it as “absurd censorship,” and U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s production company SunnyMarch is being sued over the rights to a Roald Dahl script, Variety can reveal.
SunnyMarch, whose directors are Cumberbatch and his producing partner Adam Ackland, entered into a co-production agreement with Portobello Productions in November 2019 to make a film adaptation of Dahl’s novel “Danny the Champion of the World.”
Cumberbatch was also set to star in the film as Danny’s father William, subject to his availability and approval of the script.
After commissioning and paying “One Day” writer David Nicholls to pen a first draft, however, Portobello allege they heard nothing further from Cumberbatch or Ackland, despite both men taking on numerous other projects, which are listed in the court filings, including “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “The Power of the Dog,” for which Cumberbatch could possibly win an Oscar next month.
According to the agreement, the two companies planned to hire...

Can you suggest a book that might help someone through a difficult time?
Welcome to our weekly Geeks Vs Loneliness spot, where we try and talk about issues, challenges, nasty things and difficulties that may be affecting you, or people around you. As ever, we never promise a magic wand, but hopefully from time to time we come up with something that may be of some use or support. We hope so, anyway.
Once or twice over the course of us running Geeks Vs Loneliness, we’ve stopped to consider one or two book recommendations. Books, for me personally, have always been a friend in times when I’m not at my best, and often, it’s passages in books, or stories that I’ve enjoyed, that I seek solace in. That, and Jason Statham movies, but let’s focus on the books for now.

1989's Field Of Dreams might just be Kevin Costner's finest hour. So why does the film still manage to hit so hard?
"We just don't recognise life's most significant moments while they're happening. Back then I thought, 'well there'll be other days'. I didn't realise that that was the only day."
See related Deadpool: Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick interview Deadpool: Ryan Reynolds on channeling the character
It's a useful piece of advice that's given to writers, that you need to put something on the line if you want a piece to really work. That you need to put some, and ideally a lot, of yourself into it.
Brace yourselves, I'm afraid. I make no promises that the quality of what you're about to read is much cop. But I can tell you that Field Of Dreams is an immensely important and rich film to me,...

From James Bond to Willy Wonka, Matilda to The Witches, we chart the big screen work of Roald Dahl...
Roald Dahl has often been referred to as one of the greatest storytellers for children in the 20th century. His books have delighted children for generations, with their dark and inventive sense of humour and their eccentric, dastardly adult characters.
Likewise, his written work for adults has just as much wit and creativity, and over the years, he also worked as a screenwriter on a number of projects, including TV work on Alfred Hitchcock Presents and his own anthology series, Roald Dahl's Tales Of The Unexpected.
Given how it doesn't even take the likes of J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer five years to have their popular works adapted by Hollywood, there has inevitably been an extensive crossover between Dahl's written work and the big screen. His work...

DreamWorks and Et writer, Melissa Mathison, set to adapt the author's much-loved tale, making it into a live action film
The Bfg, Roald Dahl's fantastical tale of a Big Friendly Giant who befriends a young orphan girl, is to get a live action update, courtesy of Et writer Melissa Mathison and studio DreamWorks, reports The Wrap.
The project marks the second time Dahl's story has been adapted for film following the 1989 made-for-tv version from the late-lamented British animation studio Cosgrove Hall, which featured David Jason as the voice of the lofty hero. With Indiana Jones producer Frank Marshall on board, and the backing of the powerful DreamWorks studio, the new version looks likely to be a bigger budget affair. No director has yet been announced for the project.

School's out, so let our guest experts help you make the most of the British summer. Here's what to watch, what to listen to, what to read, how to picnic to perfection, and how to find the best beaches
How to spot a good beach by Hugh Graham
The editor of Time Out's Seaside Guide suggests 10 ways to know you've found the perfect beach:
1) Crashing waves
The appropriately named Hell's Mouth in north Wales puts on quite a show, as do Freshwater West (Pembrokeshire) and Sennen Cove (Cornwall).
2) Great views
The views above Rhossili Bay, a sublime Welsh strand on the Gower, rival the world's great coastal vistas.
3) Caribbean feel
In the sunshine, the turquoise seas and talcum-powder sand at Luskentyre, on the Hebridean island of Harris, are almost Bahamian.
4) Crag action
I love a bit of cragginess. Bedruthan Steps in north Cornwall takes rugged good looks to extremes.
