‘Terrifier 3’ is the latest installment in the popular franchise starring Art the Clown. After the success of ‘Terrifier 2,’ Damien Leone started writing ‘Terrifier 3’ with a bigger story. He decided to focus more on the character Victoria since he felt she wasn’t developed enough in the first movie.
Leone also decided to move Art the Clown away from Halloween for the threequel. He shared that his love for Christmas horror inspired the violent scenes in the new movie. Instead of a classic Christmas horror film like ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night,’ Leone was inspired by a TV episode directed by Robert Zemeckis, which led him to create his own version of vicious Santa.
The idea of having Art take over Christmas started during the making of ‘Terrifier 2.’ While driving to the set, producer Phil Falcone saw Christmas decorations and suggested bringing Art into the holiday season.
Leone liked the idea.

The world of Stephen King adaptations runs the gamut across nearly every aspect of filmmaking. You have theatrically released ones and straight to video ones. Stories stretched into TV miniseries and short stories used as segments of anthology movies. Of course, there are features that do well with critics but fail with audiences and vice versa, fail with critics but are eaten up but movie goers worldwide. 1408 came at the beginning of the King renaissance in 2007 and was a success with both critics and audiences but somehow stands alone in the mid 2000s horror pantheon as a successful but forgotten movie. Who was originally going to star in the title role? How many endings does the movie technically have? How meticulous was the production about the number 1408? Grab your room keys as we find out what happened to 1408.

Legendary horror host Joe Bob Briggs stars as a paranormal radio show host in Cryptids now streaming exclusively on Screambox!
The indie horror anthology features segments about Bigfoot, Frogman, Chupacabra, and more mythical monsters.
“Major Harlan Dean (Briggs) is the host of the widely popular radio show ‘The Truth Serum’, a platform which he discusses all things weird, unknown, and sometimes scary.
“On tonight’s broadcast, Harlan tackles the topic of Cryptozoology to coincide with the annual Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. However, with each caller, something more sinister appears to be waiting in the shadows and this could end up being Harlan’s very last broadcast.
The anthology is jam packed with practical creature feature effects and stories that are reminiscent of 90s’ TV shows ‘Monsters’, ‘Tales from the Crypt’, and ‘Tales from the Darkside’.

Elvira’s Movie Macabre (1981–86).At the end of a long corridor, a door creaks open to reveal a blinding light and a thick fog. The figure of a woman appears, as if from the beyond. Foreboding organ music accompanies her sashay toward us, cobwebs breaking against her ample curves. Lightning cracks, a wolf howls, and we are delivered to the black void of a soundstage, illuminated by gothic candelabras, with a red Victorian couch at its center, on which Elvira lounges, cooing little come-ons and giggling at her own jokes as she introduces this week’s feature, Count Dracula’s Great Love (1973).Cassandra Peterson’s Elvira is part Sunset Strip stand-up comedian, part Southern belle, part self-effacing ditz, and part glamorous Hollywood host. Peterson conceived of her as a vampiric bombshell with a valley-girl punk affect and a Ronette’s mass of teased-up hair. Her dress was short, black, and low-cut,...

Nightmare Soup, the children’s horror anthology novel series written by Jake Tri and illustrated by Andy Sciazko that’s currently being adapted into the Bloody FM podcast of the same name, is releasing the ultimate feast – a deluxe hardcover collection.
“As quintessential ’90s kids, Andy and I loved books like Goosebumps, Bruce Coville’s Book of Nightmares, and especially Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. And since it had been 25 years (at the time) since a new Scary Stories book had come out, we figured we’d try and do it ourselves,” Tri and Sciazko say on their Kickstarter for the new collection.
The first novel, Nightmare Soup: Tales That Will Turn Your Stomach, released in 2016 with 30 short stories and 30 illustrations, followed by Nightmare Soup II: The Second Helping in 2017, and Nightmare Soup III: Midnight Snack in 2022. Ah, October. The magical time of year when even the most horror-averse moviegoers pop open their watchlist in search of some new scary thing to watch. And while "Terrifier 3" will certainly be the highest-grossing horror film of October, the early contender for October's best new scary movie is "V/H/S/Beyond," the latest entry in the "V/H/S" series. With the introduction of a cohesive central theme — and a handful of emerging horror directors giving each segment their all — "V/H/S/Beyond" has restored the franchise to its former glory and reminded us why horror anthologies can be such a fun way to tell a story.
But if "V/H/S/Beyond" represents a resurgence for the cinematic horror anthology, it's not the only one. This has been a banner year for horror anthologies across all mediums, with new collections and series dominating the shelves of your local comic and book stores. In fact, let's make a...

"Saturday Night Live" sketches have famously tight turnaround times, with the writing process beginning on Tuesday and rehearsals not kicking off until Friday. Those rehearsals are especially tough for the episode's guest host, who typically appears in most of the sketches. While cue cards are hold up off-screen to remind actors of their lines, occasional flubs are an inevitable part of the scramble to pull an episode together -- not to mention the unforgiving nature of live broadcast.
With all that in mind, it takes a special kind of sadism to script lines like "I'm from the Bureau of Hotel Detectives Management Division Detectives Internal Affairs," especially within a "Twilight Zone" riff that requires its actors to speak in rapid-fire Mid-Atlantic accents. But this week's "Saturday Night Live" guest host Ariana Grande nailed the challenge, as did her "Hotel Detectives" co-stars James Austin Johnson and Andrew Dismukes. And the whole...

Stephen King has a wide taste in literature, loving novels like "Lord of the Flies" and "Watership Down" over horror literature and weird fiction, but that's not to say he doesn't pay attention to other masters of the genre. The bulk of King's novels are horror stories, and he clearly took a lot of inspiration from the pulp horror, genre magazines, and EC Comics of his childhood. Indeed, King wrote "Creepshow" in 1982, openly paying homage to the "Tales from the Crypt" and "Shock SuspenStories" issues he read as a youth in the 1950s. King wears his horror influences on his sleeve.
As for the literature that inspired him, King recalls reading a lot as a child, and that he loved a wide variety of books. He enjoyed the fantastical stories of Ray Bradbury, the Nancy Drew mysteries of Carolyn Keene, and, yes, even horror novels like Robert Bloch's "Psycho.

Rod Serling's eerie sci-fi anthology series "The Twilight Zone" still, to this day, tops lists of the best TV shows of all time. In a 2023 article in Variety, listing the 100 greatest shows of all time, it was listed at #14, just behind "Succession," although that ranking smacks of recency bias. The #1 show on that list, incidentally, was "I Love Lucy," which is wholly correct. Over here on /Film, we listed "The Twilight Zone" as the greatest horror TV show of all time, which is also correct. "Tales from the Crypt," however, didn't crack the top 30, so we may need to do some soul-searching.
The original "Twilight Zone" ran from 1959 to 1964, which is an astonishingly long run for an anthology series. In that time, the show attracted numerous notable sci-fi writers and aspiring directors, bringing genre writing deeper into the pop consciousness. Serling became a minor deity of sorts, appearing at...

Tim Burton has always been an outlier in Hollywood. He's a filmmaker with a distinct, peculiar aesthetic and set of interests, yet his movies have broad appeal and are remarkably consistent in the way they perform financially. Even Burton's weakest franchise films bear the sort of directorial hallmarks that are often missing from tentpoles in the 21st century. Indeed, say what you will against his "Dark Shadows," but only Burton could have enough pull to get a $150 million movie reboot of a cult '60s soap opera oddity green-lit in 2012 while also making it precisely the way he wanted. It's the same reason the critically-derided horror-comedy has found its share of defenders.

Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’ is a body horror masterpiece that’s as smart as it is gross, but the film’s exploration of vanity, desperation, and the male gaze have coursed through her entire filmography.
“Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself? Younger, more beautiful, more perfect.”
This article contains spoilers for The Substance.
There have been sensationalist advertisements for radical, renegade filmmaking as far back as the days of William Castle’s boundary-breaking cinematic experiences. In an age where 20-minute standing ovations at film festivals are the norm and horror film screenings are accompanied by nurses, priests, and barf bags, it’s become increasingly easy to tone out and dismiss buzzy advertisements. The popular 2005 police procedural series "Bones" is full of murder, gore, desiccated corpses, and ... bones. Most episodes begin with the two main characters, "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), coming across a corpse, often discovered in an unusual or disturbing death pose. The two agents, backed up by a team of passionate pathologists, will then reverse-engineer the circumstances of the corpse's death and determine the depth of foul play involved. There was typically a great deal of foul play involved.
Like other violent shows about death, murder, and corpses, "Bones" was ideal comfort viewing. Despite all the blood, violence, and misery, "Bones" often skewed tonally light, usually involving eccentric side characters and flippant gallows quips. Also, Bones and Brennan typically solved the mysteries of the rotten cadavers, displaying a police investigative system that worked as perfectly as it was designed to.

The much-anticipated Terrifier 3 had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest today, and during a Q&a following the movie, director Damien Leone was asked what’s next for the franchise. “I love that you’re still thinking about the next one after [watching all] that,” Leone said. “So — yes, there will be a Terrifier 4.“
Leone wouldn’t spill any details on what’s to come in Terrifier 4, but it’s a good bet that audiences will be in store for more over-the-top gruesome kills. As for Terrifier 3, the sequel takes place five years after the events of the last movie during the Christmas season. Many classic Christmas horror movies serve as inspiration, including Tales from the Crypt installment All Through the House and Black Christmas. “That’s one of my favorite subgenres of horror — Christmas horror,” Leone said. “I just love that tone. Sometimes a movie can be a best horror movie you never saw candidate but there are other instances where a movie has been seen and talked about but altogether lost to time. Richard Stanley has had a long career in terms of time he has been active but a very small amount of output in terms of actual number of projects. While the saga of his journey to direct the big budget remake of The Island of Doctor Moreau and subsequent firing has been widely captured in the documentary Lost Soul and his latest success with The Color Out of Space was highly regarded but tinged with controversial allegations, he had a couple of gems before all that. Dust Devil, his sophomore effort, still very much so belongs in the Best Horror You Never Saw category and I will get to that one too, but Hardware (pick up a copy...

I’ve always found it strange how Found Footage appears more frequently in film than in television. If you think about it, most of the recovered footage that we see in real life comes from True Crime TV and investigative journalism rather than movies – or at least it used to before the internet turned the whole world into one giant Found Footage horror flick streaming live until the end of time.
Despite this, there were actually quite a few big-name TV shows that recognized the storytelling potential of the Found Footage format and decided to experiment with Pov filmmaking during their run. And in honor of these small screen pioneers, today we’d like to highlight six excellent Found Footage episodes of non-Found-Footage TV shows.

The theme song for "Gilligan's Island" was written by executive producer and show creator Sherwood Schwartz and songwriter George Wyle. It remains, without contest, one of the best TV theme songs of all time, efficiently communicating the show's premise and all seven of its characters, wrapped in one of the most insidious earworms ever recorded. Only the theme to "The Brady Bunch" can rival its cultural power. Only Jack Marshall's theme to "The Munsters" and Danny Elfman's theme to "Tales from the Crypt" can surpass it musically.
It may be shocking to learn, then, that the sea shanty version we all known and love was the second theme attempted. The original theme song had a calypso beat and different lyrics. Incidentally, the original was penned by music legend John Williams. Schwartz himself sang the theme song, although one would be forgiven for thinking it was voice luminary Mel Blanc.

Terror Tuesday: Extreme combines the experience of call-in radio shows with Thailand’s unique brand of modern horror. This new, eight-episode anthology series is inspired by the popular EFM radio program, Terror Tuesday, where listeners share their own frightening (and supposedly true) tales. Viewers will be lured in by the “based on real events” angle, but the creative — and not to mention brutal — interpretations of the truth is what ultimately makes this series worth watching.
Traditional anthologies struggle to stay relevant and on the air these days; the term “anthology” now often refers to series like American Horror Story and Slasher rather than anything in the vein of The Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt. Thankfully for fans of self-contained horrors, Terror Tuesday: Extreme is more in step with those classic TV shows. In fact, the only thing linking these standalone stories is the titular radio program. And even...

There are a lot of reasons why "The Simpsons" has lasted as long as it has, but a big one is just how fun those "Treehouse of Horror" anthology episodes always are. Even long past the golden age of the show, these Halloween specials reliably breathe new life into the series; they're funny and sharp, and they allow the show to play around with all sorts of different tones, genres, and animation styles. From the "Death Note" segment in 2022 to the "Coraline" segment in 2017 to the "Tron" segment in 1997, "The Simpsons" has always used these specials as opportunities to show us something we've never seen from them before.
But how'd the writers get the idea for the special in the first place? In a 2018 interview, renowned "Simpsons" writer Mike Reiss explained how he and the other writers were big horror movie fans, name-checking the "Evil Dead" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise in particular.

Controversial EC Comics, which warped young minds with tales of horror and suspense and spawned spinoffs in film and TV, has returned with original stories in a new anthology series.
Oni Press has licensed the EC Comics banner and last month released its first issue, Epitaphs From the Abyss. The second, Cruel Universe, arrives this month with a focus on science fiction stories.
The EC Comics brand has a fabled history.
EC Comics stopped publishing all but its humor magazine, Mad, in 1956 because of government censorship pressures and accusations of fomenting juvenile delinquency. As a result, the Comics Code Authority was created to regulate the industry.
The new series is a partnership between Oni Press and the family of William M. Gaines, the original publisher of EC Comics, who died in1992.
EC Comics brought the world series like Tales from the Crypt and Weird Science.

Another Halloween season is almost upon us, and we’re still waiting for director Mike Dougherty to get the long-awaited sequel to his horror anthology film Trick ‘r Treat (watch it Here) into production. Back in 2022, he said the sequel is in “very active development“ and last year he mentioned that there is a “really great script” in place that he wrote with his Krampus collaborators Zach Shields and Todd Casey… and yet we still haven’t heard anything about the sequel actually getting made. While we wait to find out what’s going to happen with the sequel, Arrow Video has announced that they’re going to give the first movie a limited edition 4K release! Pre-orders for the UK version of the 4K release are available at This Link, and the North American version of the release can be pre-ordered at This Link. October 27th is the UK street date,...

Batman: Caped Crusader, the latest animated interpretation of DC’s Dark Knight, embraces the pulpy horror theatrics of EC Comics.
“And you don’t know how to catch a ghost.”
“Before today, I didn’t believe they existed.”
One of superhero media’s greatest luxuries is that it’s an exaggerated genre that frequently toes the line with other styles of story. It’s not unusual for a superhero series to become a political thriller, fantastical rom-com, or epic spaghetti western based on the specific characters who are in play. Batman, in particular, is a classic DC Comics character who’s frequently steeped in dark ideas and he’s someone who’s a natural fit for the horror genre. Each cinematic Batman offering features some degree of horror, even the neon-colored Joel Schumacher entries, and there is no shortage of horror-blending comic stories between Batman: Night Cries, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth,...

A statue of the Crypt Keeper, the host of HBO’s horror series Tales from the Crypt, was stolen Sunday from the Mystic Museum in Burbank.
The museum is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the return of the statue. Museum officials ask anyone with information to contact the Burbank Police Department.
“The police are doing what they can,” the museum wrote on Instagram. But they need “the help of the horror community & our friends to get the word out.”
There is video of the theft. Footage shows a man walking to the back of the museum, then stuffing the statue in a bag and walking out.
John Kassir, the voice of the Crypt Keeper in the TV series, commented on the museum’s Instagram post, threatening the thief: “I can make your afterlife very uncomfortable.”

What's more terrifying than an invincible homicidal clown running amok on Halloween? How about an invincible homicidal clown ruining the most wonderful time of the yea? That's exactly what we're going to get with the upcoming "Terrifier 3," which now has its first full trailer.
In 2022, "Terrifier 2" proved too brutal for even some seasoned horror fans, with reports of audience members vomiting and fainting at screenings. The movie was dubbed a "MegaSlasher" by horror aficionado Mike Flanagan, and established its central antagonist, Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), as somewhat of an up-and-coming slasher star. The film's big selling point was the fact that it was an unapologetic gore-fest, more savage than anything Hollywood would dare put out. That helped propel the movie to $15.7 million at the global box office -- which, on a $250,000 budget, wasn't half bad.
So it was no surprise that a threequel was quickly greenlit,...

I've grown very fond of the "Terrifier" series — and I was not expecting this to happen. While I appreciated the practical gore effects, I found the first "Terrifier" movie to be a disappointment — it was a series of bloody moments with no real story to tell; an excuse to gross out audiences without much thought. Then came "Terrifier 2." Taking the criticisms of the first film to heart, writer-director Damien Leone decided to step things up and made a rather epic sequel. The results were big, weird, and pretty damn entertaining, and while there were still some flaws here and there, I came away impressed (you can read my review of the sequel right here). After "Terrifer 2," I've come to really appreciate the gruesome go-for-broke, DIY nature of this franchise, and I'm quite excited for "Terrifier 3," which drops new slasher icon Art the Clown into a Christmastime setting.

Back in 2020 Damian McCarthy gave the indie horror world goosebumps with his debut feature Caveat, a creeping Irish horror that seeped into your bones and sent a chill down your spine. Now, McCarthy is back with Oddity, another haunting classic in the making, tailor-made for fans of Tales From The Crypt, and anyone who loves a good murder mystery. Especially a good murder mystery with g-g-g-ghosts.
Oddity concerns blind psychic + oddities shop owner Darcy, investigating the sudden & violent death if her twin Dani. Both roles, in fact, are played by Carolyn Bracken (You Are Not My Mother) who absolutely knocks it out of the paranormal park. Her co-star (making his screen debut): a terrifying wooden doll! You see, Darcy isn’t quite satisfied with the police’s investigation into her sister’s death, and so, she invites herself into her brother-in-law’s new home/former murder scene to have a look around for herself.

Back in February, we learned that the EC Comics brand is being revived by Oni Press – and now The Wrap has revealed the upcoming EC Comics title Epitaphs from the Abyss will be introducing three new horror hosts, following in the footsteps of iconic EC Comics horror hosts like the Crypt Keeper, the Old Witch and the Vault Keeper. These new characters, designed by artist Dustin Weaver, are the Grave-Digger, the Tormentor, and the Grim Inquisitor. As the brand moves forward, the Grim Inquisitor – who “is part of a complex bureaucracy and answers to an unseen Supreme Inquisitor,” is expected to take the lead in his own title.
Oni Press editor-in-chief Sierra Hahn said, “We’ll have the Grave-Digger setting the stage, but with a little bit of that fun EC edge that’s a little bit dark, that’s a little bit playful.“

Let’s dream the crow black dream. I’m Niki Minter and this week on the Eric Draven files, we have The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. This is the first time we have a series that I feel lukewarm about. However, this is one that does have its fans and there’s a reason, aside from the upcoming reimagining, that we’re discussing it. This should be a fun time.
Okay, so, I caught Stairway on the Sci-Fi channel a few times here and there during its initial run. It caught my interest but never enough to start it from the beginning. What’s interesting about this is that it’s based on the 1994 movie adaptation which was pulled from James O’Barr’s original comic. Mark Dacascos would be the one and only person ever to fill the role once held by Brandon Lee. This is an interesting take, right?...

Back in the late 90s, a handful of powerful Hollywood producers set out on what was then a very exciting venture for genre fans: Dark Castle Entertainment, a production company dedicated to making medium-budget horror movies with A-list casts. Inspired by the legacy of beloved 50s schlockmeister William Castle, Dark Castle was going to remake some of the producer-director’s most famous works, like House on Haunted Hill and 13 Ghosts, in addition to focusing on original material. These movies weren’t going to be cheapies like Castle’s were – they’d have substantial budgets for the genre, top-tier creative teams behind the camera, and recognizable faces from film and television in front.. It was an inspired idea, and though now we look back on the venture with bittersweet memories, Dark Castle definitely left its mark on the horror genre. Calling Warner Bros. its home, Dark Castle had put out...

In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Tuvix", a transporter accident fused the stern, logical Vulcan Tuvok (Tim Russ) with the jolly hobbit-like chef Neelix (Ethan Phillips) into a single being. This new being, who says he's named Tuvix (Tom Wright) possesses memories and personality traits from both Tuvok and Neelix, which is a matter of great consternation from Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the crew of the Voyager. Tuvix soon finds that he likes his new amalgam personality, finding happiness and agency as an individual.
Soon, however, the Voyager engineers find a way to reverse the effects of the transporter accident and separate Tuvix back into his two constituent beings. Tuvix objects, of course. To do so would mean to murder him. Surely a newly created person has rights just as much as any other member of the crew, and Tuvix would like them to be protected. Notoriously among Trekkies,...

“The film follows Corcoran’s Diane Winters and her cameraman Simon, played by Miles, as they uncover a mysterious series of gruesome murders that unfold throughout the course of a chaotic and violent day. The setup for writer/director Calvin Lee Reeder’s dark, goopy sci-fi horror comedy The A-Frame adheres to the time-honored tradition of ambitious scientists unleashing grotesque horrors when dabbling with unknown realities beyond our own. The A-Frame introduces Donna (Dana Namerode) at one of the lowest points in her life as a musician with bone cancer that will require the amputation of her most crucial tool: her arm. That means when we meet her, she’s deep in the anger stage of grief that causes her to lash out. Even at a new cancer support group, where she’s scolded by the group’s host Linda (Laketa Caston). But then Donna meets Sam (Johnny Whitworth...
