According to The Hollywood Reporter, television vet and character actor James B. Sikking was announced by his publicist, Cynthia Snyder, to have passed away this Saturday at his Los Angeles home due to complications with dementia. Sikking was a regular and a frequent collaborator of Steven Bochco shows. The actor is known for portraying the stern Lt. Howard Hunter on the cop series, Hill Street Blues, as well as playing the dad to the titular teenage doctor character played by Neil Patrick Harris on the drama Doogie Howser M.D. Sikking was 90 at the time of his passing.

In addition to being known for television, Sikking can also be seen in a bevy of notable film roles. He played a mocking hitman in the John Boorman film Point Blank (1967). He was also the stuffy Captain Styles who James T. Kirk would defy in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), directed by Leonard Nimoy.

After spending the better part of two decades showing up on such shows as The Outer Limits, Honey West, The Fugitive, Hogan’s Heroes and Mannix, Sikking was cast as the pipe-smoking Hunter, leader of the Swat-like Emergency Action Team, on NBC’s Hill Street Blues.

David Gail, an actor known for his roles on “Beverly Hills, 90210” and the “General Hospital” spinoff “Port Charles,” died Tuesday due to complications from sudden cardiac arrest. He was 58.

“Gail was found unresponsive by emergency personnel who made every attempt to save his life including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation,” a statement shared with Variety reads. “Despite their efforts, Gail was put on life support where he remained for several days. He was pronounced dead on Jan. 16, 2024.”

Gail’s sister, Katie Colmenares, paid tribute to the actor in an Instagram post on Saturday, writing, “There’s barely been even a day in my life when you were not with me by my side.”

Colmenares continued, “Always my wingman always my best friend ready to face anything and anyone w me the bears will never be the same but I will hold you so tight every day in my heart...

Inspired by ABC’s 1989-1993 sitcom “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” the series was set in Hawaii and followed Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), a 16-year-old prodigy juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager.

The cast also included Kathleen Rose Perkins as Dr. Clara Hannon, Lahela’s mother who’s also her supervisor at the hospital; Jason Scott Lee as Benny, Lahela’s father; Matt Sato as Kai, her older brother; Wes Tian as Brian Patrick, her younger brother; Emma Meisel as Steph, her best friend; Alex Aiono as Walter, her first boyfriend; Milo Manheim as Nico, her patient and new love interest. Starring as Lahela’s hospital colleagues were Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Mapuana Makia and Ronny Chieng.

Season 1 ran from September to November of 2021 and introduced Lahela as she embarked on her medical career while pursuing her crush on Walter.

Janelle James, the actor whose role as principal Ava Coleman on “Abbott Elementary” earned her an Emmy nomination, has been named host of the 75th annual Writers Guild Awards on the West Coast.

Suit up, it's time to discuss everyone's favorite self-proclaimed lady's man. The antics of Barney Stinson may not have aged particularly well here in 2022, but the "How I Met Your Mother" character somehow remains just as beloved today as he was when the show was on the air. ABC is developing a youth-skewing workplace comedy from Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. duo Alison Bennett and Melvin Mar.

The network has put XYZ in the works from 20th Television, where Bennett is under an overall deal.

The project is a half-hour, single camera comedy about a Gen Z, a millennial, and a Gen X woman who work together in the marketing department of a huge corporation, and wind up deeply influencing each other’s work and personal lives.

Billie Eilish is making her Disney+ debut with the concert film “Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles,” which arrived on the streaming platform on Friday.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez and co-directed by Oscar-winner Patrick Osborne, “Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles,” features an intimate performance of every song on Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever” album (in sequential order) from the legendary Hollywood Bowl.

Disney’s upcoming “Doogie Howser” reboot may be set partially in a hospital, but don’t expect to see Covid-19 make an appearance.

“It was definitely a question early on,” showrunner Kourtney Kang said during a Television Critics Association press tour panel on Thursday when asked about how the show navigated the decision to represent the pandemic. Ultimately, the producers decided an escapist approach was most appropriate for the family-friendly Disney+ series.

“Our show is so hopeful and escapist and so uplifting that having this magical world where we don’t have to touch on that felt like the right decision,” she said. “We were all in agreement early on that that was the way to go.”

Set to premiere on Sept. 8., “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.” stars “Andi Mack” alum Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha, a mixed-race 16-year-old girl, juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager.

Fans of ’80s TV who were hoping to see “Doogie Howser, M.D.” star Neil Patrick Harris make an appearance on Disney+’s upcoming reboot of the show will have to make peace with the fact the producers couldn’t get the former child star onto the first season of “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.”

However, the Nph exclusion from the Hawaii-set reboot, which stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee in the title role of the unbelievably young doctor, is purely due to the pandemic, according to series creator Kourtney Kang.

“We need to connect Peyton and Neil! And yes, we have been in touch, with Neil,” Kang told reporters during a virtual panel for “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.” during the Television Critics Association’s press tour Thursday. “I worked with him for nine years on ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ He is so wonderful. Disney+ has released trailers, in both Japanese and with English dubbing, for Star Wars: Visions, an anthology series from Lucasfilm that tells new stories in the style and tradition of Japanese anime.

The streamer on Tuesday announced spinoff Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., starts streaming September 8, with new episodes premiering every Wednesday.

Disney+ also revealed the series' title sequence featuring a new rendition of the iconic Doogie Howser, M.D. theme song re-imagined and performed by music composer Wendy Wang and world-renown ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro.

The new series is a coming-of-age dramedy inspired by the hit medical series Doogie Howser, M.D.

It follows Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha, a 16-year-old prodigy juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager.

ABC has put into development a comedy starring Jo Koy and co-written by “Man With a Plan” alum Steve Joe and “Always Be My Maybe” duo Michael Golamco and Randall Park, the network announced Thursday.

Titled “Josep,” the series centers on a “hard-working nurse trying to navigate dating, fatherhood, and the hilarious complications caused by his strong-willed Filipino mother moving in with him.” Koy will star and executive produce.

Joe, Golamco and Park are all credited as writers and executive producers on the project, with Joe set to serve as showrunner.

Joe most recently served as co-executive producer on 20th’s “Doogie Howser” reboot, “Doogie Kamealoha, MD,” for Disney+. He also served as a consulting producer on the studio’s “Turner & Hooch” series, also for Disney+. His other credits include “Young Sheldon,” “The Real O’Neals” and “Hot in Cleveland.”

Netflix has ordered a comedy series that will star Gregg Sulkin and Emily Osment.

The untitled sitcom is from Kourtney Kang, Doug Mand and Jack Dolgen, with Pamela Fryman on board to direct. Netflix ordered 10 half-hour episodes. Mand and Dolgen will write the script.

The project centers on a snooty, self-proclaimed intellectual (Osment) who is forced to move in with her care-free sister and her sister’s lovably eccentric friends, including Grant (Sulkin).

Osment’s Chelsea is an Ivy league educated intellectual who is book-smart and quick witted but lacks the real world skills she needs to have a functional life. She finds herself living in L.A. without any options other than her bubbly sister, Claire, and Claire’s roommates.

Sulkin’s Grant is romantic, genuinely sweet, and an often shirtless personal trainer. He has a childlike curiosity about the world and is the kind of guy women love and men…...
