There is a scene in which Sakura breaks the thong on one of her geta (wooden clogs). This act is considered unlucky in Japan. Her uncle Cherry then shows up and more unlucky events occur. A black cat darts out in front of them, and a hearse drives by. The Japanese also believe that if a hearse drives past them, and if they don't hide their thumbs, an early death will befall their parents.
This movie was based on the final chapters in the UY manga series.
The trailer for the movie was actually narrated in English by a voiceover actor who was a native speaker of English, possibly an American. The narration was accompanied by Japanese subtitles. The following is what was spoken during the trailer: English voice-over: "As the world looked on, Earth's fate hung in balance. The fight for survival now begins. Final battle in..." Japanese voice-overs (in unison): "TOMOBIKI-CHO!"
