During the May 17, 1989 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962), Carson joked about this movie several times during his opening monologue. Carson told the audience he had watched the television movie the night before, describing it as a "turkey" and a "stinker". He added star Raquel Welch was so bad, she made "Vanna White look like Helen Hayes".

Castaway silliness

Shot on location in Queensland, this is as implausible a piece of film making as you are likely to see anywhere. Jack Thompson is at his oafish best and Ms Welch still looks pretty good, considering she was in her late 40s when this was shot. The storyline is non-existent and poor Nicholas Hammond looks embarrassed throughout the movie.
