This film was originally supposed to get a bigger domestic theatrical release in America, but the studio executive who supported the film was fired and replaced by another person who decided to give this film a more limited theatrical release instead. As a direct result of this, plans for a potential sequel were eventually abandoned altogether despite the fact that this movie did well in various foreign territories.
