This film was originally supposed to get a bigger domestic theatrical release in America, but the studio executive who supported the film was fired and replaced by another person who decided to give this film a more limited theatrical release instead. As a direct result of this, plans for a potential sequel were eventually abandoned altogether despite the fact that this movie did well in various foreign territories.
It took three years prior to filming for Guy Magar to find funding for the film, until an unknown businessman put up $1.2 million for the film.
