This movie goes on with Kalle Päätalo's story. The time is 1930's and the place is Taivalkoski.Nuoruuteni Savotat (1988) is directed by Mikko Niskanen. This was Niskanen's, who died 20 years ago, last movie.Ari-Kyösti Seppo does very convincing job as Kalle.Pirjo Leppänen and Martti Kainulainen are playing the parents also in this one.And Matti Tuominen is Hiltu-Jakki.And Timo Pylkkänen plays Arvi Päätalo. The late great Tapio Hämäläinen portrays a municipal councilman. Also Aimo Hiltunen plays the same part.Director's brother, Sakari Niskanen plays member of the Finnish White Guard.Ilkka Järvi-Laturi is Hoikkalan Kalle.Rolf Labbart portrays Itäpään Keisari.Lilli Suomalainen is Anni, who shares some feelings with Kalle.Aarno Raninen plays Matti Neulikko.Ahti Kuoppala, who turned 80 on July, plays the part of Aku.Suti Hokkanen, the amateur actor who was seen in a few Mikko's movies, plays Huttu Heikki.Kirsti Väänänen plays the hot Heinätyttö.Ilkka Koivula is Kalastajan Eino.Outi Kavén is Lempi, the poor woman who has to work hard.I saw this the last time on Christmas Day.The movie isn't quite as good as the first part was.But it is quite fascinating to watch Kalle's experiences as a young man.It shows one embarrassing situation taking to Kalle's first sexual experience, that he never gets to finish. It's one comical scene. Some drama comes from Kalle's working at the forest, where he simply can't go on anymore.Obviously it was a relief to Kalle that he became a writer. His favorite place seems to be the local library.A lot of drama is also with the dealing of the relationship with his father.Hermanni escapes the mental institution, and he doesn't like what a reader his son has become.Mikko Niskanen was a dignified film director, who made Kalle Päätalo a great movie character twice.
