With Halloween approaching quickly, we have one final round of home media releases headed our way this week in case you’re looking to pick up some last-minute films to check out this spooky season. Blue Underground is releasing Daughters of Darkness in 4K this Tuesday, and Severin Films is keeping busy with an array of titles, including The Black Cat, Patrick Still Lives, and Shock Treatment.
Vinegar Syndrome also has quite the lineup of films coming home this week, including Grave Robbers, Memorial Valley Massacre, Zombie 5: Killing Birds, and several Amityville sequels. Arrow Video is also showing some love to both Cold Light of Day and The Last Starfighter, and if you’re a big fan of The Monster Squad, you’ll definitely want to check out the Wolfman’s Got Nards documentary.
Other releases for October 27th include Scary Tales, Spine Chiller, Weedjies: Halloweed Night, Attack of the Unknown,...

Horses of God
Not Rated, 1 Hr., 55 Mins.
Four boys from the slums of Morocco mutate into suicide bombers in this tense drama, which uses the 2003 Casablanca terror attack as its backdrop. Director Nabil Ayouch hammers his points rather bluntly, but his filmmaking is hypnotic. The camera, initially jittery and handheld, slows to static shots, eerily matching the characters’ stagnant mindsets on their atrocious road to martyrdom. B+ –Joe McGovern
Korengal
Not Rated, 1 Hr., 30 Mins.
Sebastian Junger’s follow-up to 2010′s Restrepo (his Oscar-nominated war doc codirected by the late Tim Hetherington) shifts focus from combat in Afghanistan’s “Valley of Death” to the soldiers’ psychology,...

(Tim Hetherington, above, during the shooting of Restrepo.)
By Terry Keefe
News reports are stating that Tim Hetherington was tragically killed today in Libya. I interviewed Hetherington twice during the past year, along with Sebastian Junger, for Restrepo, the Oscar-nominated documentary they co-directed while embedded with an American platoon in Afghanistan.
Together, Hetherington and Junger created what I believe to be the most important film of the year. It is required viewing for all Americans, to be sure. Rest in peace.
I spoke to Hetherington and Junger two months ago, right before the Oscars, and prior to that, did a much longer interview with them on the shooting of Restrepo. I've reposted the entirety of that interview below.
Bearing Witness In Afghanistan: An Interview With Tim Hetherington & Sebastian Junger, Co-directors Of Restrepo
I’ll just come out and say this - Restrepo is one of the best films about war ever made.

Memorial Valley Massacre is everything the dorky, "tongue-in-cheek" Doom Asylum advertised, but failed miserably on delivering." -- Bleeding Skull Bleeding Skull is right, once "the mischievous sissified man-child" Byron dies, Memorial Valley Massacre does slow down a bit, but if you're looking for a fun campy movie to watch this long weekend, this is the cult classic I would recommended.

Photograph by Tim Hetherington.Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta will be awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley, an area called the Valley of Death. In October of 2007, during Operation Rock Avalanche, an ambush of at least a dozen Taliban fighters attacked Giunta’s company and left two of his fellow soldiers dead. Had it not been for Giunta, it would have likely been more, if not all, of the platoon. On November 16, Giunta will be the first living soldier since the Vietnam War to receive America’s highest honor, when it is awarded by President Obama at the White House. Vanity Fair contributing photographer Tim Hetherington spotlights Giunta in the December issue. While on assignment with contributing editor Sebastian Junger—who wrote a book about Giunta and his platoon, War— Hetherington was with a platoon near Giunta’s in the Korengal during Operation Rock Avalanche.

Fat Joe is probably the most diligent rapper in terms of releasing an album. The CEO of Terror Squad Entertainment came out with another effort this year after releasing two others in the past three years. This time, Joe is confident that when his fans listen to it, they would say "He's one of the greats."
"The Darkside Vol.1" was released on July 27 led by the single "(Ha Ha) Slow Down". Both the first single and the second single ("If It Ain't About Money") have climbed the Rap Songs chart at top 30. The latter which is featuring Trey Songz is expected to enter the mainstream chart this week. "I'm excited about this album. I can't wait 'til the fans get it," Joe told MTV. "We locked ourselves in the studio for like eight, nine months: wasn't going out, just concentrating on music."
Out of the 13 tracks in the album, one is a personal favorite.

New York — Fat Joe welcomed all to his concert at Sob's Tuesday night (actually, early Wednesday morning) on one condition. Don't expect any of his radio hits.
"I told y'all n---as, you want 'Lean Back,' get the f--- out!" Joe said halfway through his show. "You want 'We Thuggin',' get the f--- out! You want 'Make It Rain'? Get the f--- out. Y'all must've forgot."
Joe took it all the way back to the underground essence of his career at his concert. He's been around since 1993, been nominated for Grammy Awards and VMAs, and has had big hits. But during this concert, it was just street bangers, classic album cuts and new songs. He also paraded out a series of guests that were reigning...

Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables
Independent Album: The Darkside, Vol. 1
Headliner: Fat Joe
Key Cameos: The Clipse and Cam'ron on "Kilo"; R. Kelly on "How Did We Get Here"; and Lil Wayne on "Heavenly Father."
Essential Info: When Fat Joe says that this is just the first volume of The Darkside, the Bronx veteran means it. He's already started recording the follow-up to the LP, which officially dropped Tuesday (July 27).
"The Darkside, Vol. 2, we already started the intro," Joe said with a grin when he stopped by 1515 headquarters recently. "We're just trying to make The Darkside its own brand. It's Fat Joe, but it's The Darkside. We come with Vol. 2, make it crazier than Vol. 1, by the time Vol. 3 come, we got a problem on our hands.

'Did you ever have anybody try to kill you?' the Bronx Mc says of being counted out after weak album sales.

Fat Joe is like the vampire Bill Compton on HBO's "True Blood" — crawling out of the dirt after being, in a sense, buried alive.
"They tried to disrespect the God, realest rapper ever," Joe said Monday when we joined him at Manhattan's Skyline Studios. The Bronx Mc was talking to a group of journalists and select DJs (Clark Kent, Bobby Trends, Mister Cee and others) assembled for a listening session of his new LP, The Darkside Vol. 1, due July 27.
"Did you ever have anybody try to kill you?" Joe asked, addressing Kent and Trends. "They tried to erase 15 years!"
After sales of his last album, 2009's Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.2), turned out to be meager at best,...
