Zaki, our mustached hero, won't let his people smuggler associate send off the white scarf men from his own village with dogdy papers (the notion of community is one of the film's strengths). The dastard accordingly plants dope in Zaki's humble home and when he comes out of the slammer, the wronged man takes his revenge. His old village friend the cop is on his case, when the murder count gets up to three - OK scene of the informer dragged by the subway train.
Throw in the romance with the belly dancer met at the street wedding, which is one of the film's best scenes. The wind-up is abrupt, not resolving the missing cousin or political football plots.
Production values get by.
