Second film for Jean Rochefort with director Patrice Leconte. In the first one Les vécés étaient fermés de l'intérieur (1976), human relations between the two were a catastrophe. No problem this time.
Richard Cocciante adapted the French song "Le Refuge" by François Bernheim as Il Mio Rifugio and sang it also playing the piano.
The screenplay is inspired by the quiz radio show Le Jeu des mille francs hosted for 30 years from a different location 5 days a week by Lucien Jeunesse. Jeuness didn't like the image the film gave of his type of work.
