Move over, Lady Gaga. Our favorite 96-year-old is looking to dominate the music charts.
Last week, Fred Stobaugh melted hearts across the world when a song he wrote for his late wife went viral.
His lyrics to 'Oh Sweet Lorraine,' were originally entered into a singer-songwriter contest at Green Shoes Studios in Illinois. An employee, Jacob Colgan, surprised Stobaugh by putting the words to music. And now, the song is topping the charts.
By Friday, 'Oh Sweet Lorraine' was number seven on U.S. iTunes, alongside names like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus, BBC News reported.
The song also entered Billboard's Rock Digital Songs sales chart at No. 49 with 6,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Today, 'Oh Sweet Lorraine' is holding steady at number 31 on iTunes. The original YouTube clip, however, that introduced Stobaugh to the world, has jumped to nearly 3 million views.

One of YouTube's most recent viral hits is also one of the most touching videos you will ever see. Green Shoe Studios' 'A Letter From Fred', which has been viewed more than two million times since its release, chronicles the life of 96 year old Fred Stobaugh, his 73 year marriage to his deceased wife Lorraine, and the touching love song he wrote after her death. As the video recounts, Stobaugh responded to a singer/songwriter contest by mailing Green Shoes the lyrics to 'Oh Sweet Lorraine', a mournful ballad about the memories his wife has left behind. The recording studio was so touched by his story that it decided to put together a version of his song, even though it didn't fit within the parameters of the contest. The resulting song was uploaded to YouTube as part of a mini-doc about Stobaugh's life. As many people have noted, the song itself is not that exciting,...

“We love the filmmakers because without them we’d all just be here drinking.” So noted CineKink Film Festival founder Lisa Vandever after calling for a round of applause at this year’s midtown kickoff at the Taj Lounge, which saw burlesque performances — by Leta Le Noir, Sweet Lorraine and “N — “The Only Letter in Burlesque” followed by a small shorts program. With films containing a slick music video/Calvin Klein commercial aesthetic (Roy Raz’s The Lady Is Dead from Israel), to scenes of anatomical pottery (Debi Oulu’s My Erotic Video Art, another flick from Israel — what’s up with the Israelis?) to visuals as predictable as its title (Love Hotel from its better-named, Spanish director Erika Lust) the diversity on display served as a teaser, naturally, to the eclectic main event. And then there was my evening favorite from the good ole U.S.A. Toby Fell-Holden...

For Tatum O'Neal, most famous for winning an Oscar at the ripe old age of 10, things just keep getting sweeter. Sure, she has a role on FX's great drama (and Reject HQ favorite) Rescue Me. Adding to her indie cred (she just finished shooting The Runaways with Twilight princess Kristen Stewart and all-around princess Dakota Fanning), O'Neal has just landed the title role in an new indie drama called Sweet Lorraine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, O'Neal will play a former NYC scene-queen that moves to New Jersey. Sounds like a reverse Meadow Soprano to me. Except that, apparently, this "sweet" Lorraine gets all muddled up in some cutthroat New Jersey municipality's political scene, because her ex-boyfriend runs for mayor. Or something. I don't know, you had me at Tatum O'Neal. And the word Lorraine. And now I'm hungry for some quiche.

Tatum O'Neal was in the news recently with a completely icky, rather-not-think-about it story, about how her dad Ryan O'Neal approached her at Farrah Fawcett's funeral and, well, just read it yourself. But luckily she's still trying to be known as someone other than "the woman who got hit on by her own dad," signing up for a role in indie drama Sweet Lorraine. According to THR she'll play a former queen of the New York underground scene (underground music? underground rock? who knows) who moves to a small New Jersey town and gets involved in local politics. She's also got a part in the Kristen-Stewart-as-Joan-Jett movie The Runaways, which is news to me. O'Neal is known for being one of the youngest ever Oscar winners, snagging a trophy for Paper Moon at age 10, and her adult acting career hasn't exactly matched. An opportunity to turn things around? Or...
