The Duffer Brothers’ “Stranger Things” is coming back next year. And we have some new details.
As part of Stranger Things Day, the annual celebration of all things Hawkins, Indiana that coincides with the day that Will Bowers disappeared, Netflix announced when the new season will take place, and crucially, the titles for the final eight episodes of the beloved series. Watch the teaser below and we will break it down.
“In the fall of 1987,” the teaser states, “one last adventure begins.” (There had been speculation that the final season would take place at Christmas – could it be so epic that it stretches from the fall to the winter?) Interestingly, 1987 was the year of “The Lost Boys,” “Spaceballs,” “Robocop,” “Adventures in Babysitting” and “Batteries Not Included” – all, undoubtedly, hallmarks for the series. Some of the top 10 songs from that year included “Walk Like an Egyptian” by The Bangles, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody...

Great news, Mel Brooks fans! There’s a Spaceballs sequel coming down the pike, and the script is supposed to be amazing!
How do we know? Screenwriter and potential star Josh Gad tells us so. He just finished his first draft, and “everybody who’s read it has been blown away,” says the guy who just finished the first draft. “The process of working on this with and alongside Mel Brooks has been one of the highlights of my career.”
Gad then proceeded to tell Forbes everything about the new script without actually saying anything at all. “It was sort of a fever dream that this all happened,” he explained. “Mel has been so unbelievably supportive, involved and electrified by this because it’s the one that surprisingly got away. It’s a dream to be able to finally make the reality prophesied by Yogurt in the first movie happen.

In 1987, comedy legend Mel Brooks released Spaceballs, a parody of Star Wars that pit space rogue Lone Star (Bill Pullman) and his furry companion Barf (John Candy) against the vile Darth Helmet (Rick Moranis). Star Wars mania had by no means abated by that point — Return of the Jedi had come out four years before — but Spaceballs didn't get its own cult of fans until it came out on home video, which is how watched it when I was a tiny baby in the 1990s. I actually think I watched Spaceballs before I watched Star Wars, and it's still probably first in my heart.
Brooks made a couple of attempts over the years to get a sequel to Spaceballs made, but nothing took; according to Forbes, Moranis once pitched him on a movie called Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II, but it never came together. And so a couple...

Ludicrous speed, go! Josh Gad has “gone to plaid” since announcing his plans to develop a Spaceballs sequel. The promise of another Spaceballs movie is almost too outlandish to comprehend, as it has been roughly 37 years since the original comedy’s release. What business does Gad have releasing a new can of Perri-air into Mel Brooks’ legendary Star Wars spoof? Does he have the juice to resurrect the property? Where do you even begin to tackle such an intimidating task? Thankfully, Josh Gad told Forbes Spaceballs 2 is going better than well, and those who read the script have been “blown away” by its progress.
Gad is a multi-talented actor on the stage and screen, and Mel Brooks (who turned 98 this year) is in his corner. Gad and Brooks will produce Spaceballs 2, with Gad starring in the project and co-writing the script with Detective Pikachu scribe Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

Five decades ago, a rip-roaring spoof Western came to town, with a six-shooter full of gags, a handful of ultra-catchy songs, and a roster of stellar performances to boot. It rode a blazing saddle, it wore a shining star – and it became one of the greatest cinematic comedies of all time. Yes, Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles has turned 50, holding on to its status as one of the funniest films ever made, with sharp satire to complement its pitch-perfect homage to the Western genre. Now, it looks even better than ever, thanks to a new 4K restoration – available to own on 4K Ultra-hd Blu-ray. Gentlemen, please rest your sphincters.
Blazing Saddles arrived in a period of major creativity for Brooks – it landed in February 1974, followed-up before the year was out by his Universal monster spoof Young Frankenstein. And it connected with audiences for all kinds of reasons – not just the barrage...

Movie parodies are obviously a huge part of what makes The Simpsons tick, whether it’s subtle nods to cinematic classics, or more obvious homages to mainstream pop-culture staples. But for those fans who grew up watching the show, viewing the parodies often preceded seeing the actual movies being parodied.
Like, a lot of us saw “The Shinning” before we ever watched The Shining. And when we did finally catch up with it, we were surprised to learn that it doesn’t end with Jack Torrance watching the Tony Awards.
It’s not like there were any huge plot twists in The Shining that were given away by the Treehouse of Horror parody, but over on Reddit, Simpsons fans have been sharing some of the most famous movie moments that were spoiled for them by the show.

Matt and Ross Duffer struck gold when they created the supernatural drama Stranger Things for Netflix. That series is set in the 1980s, a period the Duffers are clearly enamored with. The show is coming to an end with a final season to air hopefully next year, but the brothers have other irons in the fire, including a new Netflix show called The Boroughs.
The Duffers will only be involved in a producing capacity; showrunning duties will fall to Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the guys behind the canceled-too-soon series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Ben Taylor will direct several episodes including the pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
But I still see the Duffers' fingerprints all over this show, which is about "a group of unlikely heroes" living in a retirement community who must "band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don't have — time.

The Netflix supernatural mystery series “The Boroughs” from creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews and executive producers the Duffer brothers has set a star-studded main cast.
Variety has learned that Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman will all star in the eight-episode series, which was greenlit at the streamer back in April 2023. It was also revealed that Ben Taylor will direct multiple episodes, including the first, in addition to executive producing.

Image Source: Amazon Fortunately, at the age of 98, Mel Brooks can still be called a living legend. Between his film, television, and recording careers, he’s been entertaining us for decades, giving us classics like The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and the Star Wars parody Spaceballs. And since Star Wars has stood the test of time, so has Spaceballs, which is still finding new audiences today. Daphne Zuniga played the film’s princess, and she still speaks glowingly of the experience. At a GalaxyCon Oklahoma City panel’s Q&a session recently, Zuniga expounded on what it was like working with someone who is as funny — and also as serious — as Mel Brooks. The popular science fiction franchise Star Trek has entertained audiences for generations. Beginning in 1966, the show broke boundaries and showed us a better future for humanity, and the many worlds of outer space that we could potentially encounter beyond the stars. The franchise has had multiple shows, movies, books, comics and video games with a hardcore dedicated fanbase.
One of the series’ most recent video games is Star Trek: Fleet Command, a strategic free to play space simulator developed for mobile phones that released in 2018. Over the years the game has had multiple promotions with different iterations of the show. But now the developers have decided to go beyond and crossover with the world of Galaxy Quest.

Despite its ups and downs, I’ve always respected the Alien franchise for daring to try something new with every new entry. From Vietnam allegories to reimagining Chariots of the Gods as a Lovecraftian origin story for the Xenomorphs, the series challenges the very concept of genre as it explores what might go wrong when humanity comes into contact with a truly perfect organism.
And with Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus paying homage to the most underrated movie in the franchise during its horrific final act, today I’d like to look back on Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s unfairly maligned Alien: Resurrection and dive into why I think this oddball gem of a film deserves more love.
Like many sequels, the story of Resurrection begins soon after the release of its predecessor. Desperate for a course-correction after the grimdark prison story of Alien³ left audiences feeling frustrated, Fox attempted to recruit established filmmakers like Danny Boyle,...

A strong case could be made that Mel Brooks co-writing and directing "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles" in the same year (1974) is one of the greatest filmmaking one-two punches of the 20th century. It's hard enough to make a single comedy that becomes a stone cold classic, but for both of them to have such fantastic reputations 50 years later (despite "Blazing Saddles" having some aspects in it that don't age well for modern viewers) makes this achievement downright legendary. Of course, the fact that these movies came out 50 years ago sadly means that most of the actors who starred in these projects are no longer with us.
For "Blazing Saddles," a film that was so controversial even upon its release that Brooks thought he might be killed because of its content, that means we've already lost towering performers like Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Harvey Corman, Slim Pickens, the great Madeline Kahn,...

While taking a break from producing the upcoming Spaceballs sequel that somehow exists, this past weekend Mel Brooks presented a special screening of Blazing Saddles in L.A. to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary. Which might be the best possible way to view Blazing Saddles, other than on horseback in 1974.
Brooks was, according to IndieWire, full of great stories about the making of the film, as one would expect. For example, he described how the head of Warner Bros. once had him dragged by the nape of the neck into an office, at which point he was thrown a legal pad and a Sharpie and told, “Write: No hitting an old lady — out. No hitting a horse — out. No farting — out.”
So Brooks promptly “crumpled up his notes” and “threw (them) in the waste basket,” reasoning, “Why listen to anything? I would’ve had an 11-minute movie.”

In the 1990s, Hollywood found both success and failure by digging deep into the back catalog of horror master Stephen King. The decade saw some of the best adaptations of his work and some of the worst (we don't need to talk about "The Lawnmower Man"), but its high and low points alike notably drew from lesser-known King works, as many of his major hits were already adapted in the decades prior. "Thinner" falls into this category: Released in 1984, the novel that inspired the movie was well-regarded upon release, but is mostly known now as the book that helped readers identify King as the writer behind pseudonym Richard Bachman.
Plenty of King fans love "Thinner," but the novel about an overweight man who is cursed to lose weight rapidly to the point of emaciation isn't exactly as high profile as the novelist's more zeitgeist-defining works. The Tom Holland-directed film...

A two-part documentary about comedy legend Mel Brooks from directors Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio has been set at HBO.
The HBO Documentary Films and Apatow Productions project, now in production, will trace Brooks’ journey from Brooklyn to Hollywood and Broadway. Joe Beshenkovsky, who last worked with Apatow and Bonfiglio on HBO’s four-hour documentary George Carlin’s American Dream, will edit the documentary.
Apatow promises a career-spanning film about the comedy legend behind classic movie farces and parodies. “I went into comedy because of my love for Mel Brooks. This project is the dream of a lifetime,” the Hollywood writer-director-producer said in a statement.
Brooks’ career began with Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows where he worked alongside the late Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, and Larry Gelbart. That’s after the teenage comedian in the Catskills conquered the entertainment world with his satirical comedy.

Few names (if any) loom larger over the world of comedy than Mel Brooks. Now, his eight-decade career will be the subject of an upcoming two-part HBO special from co-directors Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio.

The Alien franchise has a lot of scary elements: the uncaring company Weyland-Yutani, androids that look like humans, and, oh yeah, freaking Xenomorphs, based on an unnerving design by Swiss artist H.R. Giger. Underpinning many of these things is a fear of rape and pregnancy, especially inflicted upon men.
Many have written about how the first chestburster scene in Alien represents a man giving horrific birth, after being violated by a facehugger. Ash’s analysis of the facehugger in that movie gave viewers a sense of how the creature worked, including a tube that ran down the victim’s throat. But, at that point, director Ridley Scott apparently figured the audience had been traumatized enough, so he didn’t show the tube going into Kane.

Comedy is an art form that to truly succeed requires mastery of both subtlety and audacity, and a keen sense of timing. But usually two out of three is enough to pull some chuckles from an audience, and so a veneer of comedy finds its way into a lot of genres besides its own. And a little like how science fiction comments on our current era, comedy also tends to highlight current storytelling trends and topics, making it a natural companion to the speculative genre.
Unlike how Airplane killed the disaster movie in the ’70s by brutally skewering every trope that that genre relied on, comedy’s place in science fiction is often evolutionary and frequently affectionate. Something about this blend simply enhances the way sci-fi comments on us as a species. Call it symbiotic—a raucous relationship similar to Eddie Brock and Venom’s bonkers movie marriage. But don’t call it Shirley.

Filmmaker Steven Spielberg and his production company Amblin Entertainment are behind some of the most popular family movies of all time. One of the more underrated offerings from the acclaimed filmmaker’s production house is the 1995 supernatural comedy film Casper, starring Bill Pullman as Dr. James Harvey.

The film follows Harvey, a widower, and a ghost therapist as his daughter befriends the titular ghost. It is known for its extensive use of computer-generated imagery, more notably being the first film to have a full CG main lead. During an interview, Pullman reflected on what the film’s ambitious CGI meant for him, recalling an incident where Spielberg warned him of the consequences of messing up a scene.

In an age where computer-generated imagery is as prevalent as it’s ever been it’s nice to see filmmakers that are still embracing the fun and tangibility of practical effects, and Italian Filmmaker Alice Fassi is one of those filmmakers. Fassi’s latest music video for Purple Disco Machine’s Honey Boy tells the story of a lonely boy looking to find love. The catch, however, is that he’s completely caked in honey. In order to bring her gooey protagonist to life Fassi fully embraces practical effects, capturing his awkward, sticky existence in all its tactile glory. These effects, combined with the upbeat rhythms of Purple Disco Machine’s track, make for a joyous combination and music video that’ll stick with you in more ways than one. Dn caught up with Fassi to learn more about her surrealist influences, the process of creating the layers of prosthetics...

These days, no IP is too good not to capitalize on, not even “Spaceballs.” Variety reports that Amazon MGM Studios has a sequel of the 1987 sci-fi spoof in development with Josh Gad set to star. Gad also leads producers on the project along with the original director, Mel Brooks. And if Brooks is involved, this idea isn’t all bad, right? After all, there are plenty of recent sci-fi tropes for a follow-up to tackle.

Fulfilling a decades-old prophecy — and by prophecy, I mean a throwaway joke that was clearly never meant to be taken seriously — Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs is finally getting a sequel. Whether or not it’s actually going to be called Spaceballs II: The Search for More Money remains to be seen.
Last week, Josh Gad posted images of a heavily-redacted screenplay on Instagram, indicating that he was working on a mystery movie that would be “Based on Characters Created by Mel” somebody, and opens with the scene heading “Ext. Star Field.” Fans quickly deduced that Gad’s script was for a sequel to Spaceballs. It was either that or a Passion of the Christ spin-off set in the distant future.
It’s now been officially confirmed that a Spaceballs follow-up is in development at Amazon MGM. The belated continuation of the 1987 Star Wars spoof will star Gad, who also co-wrote the script.

When writer/director Mel Brooks' "Spaceballs" comedy spoof of "Star Wars" was first released in 1987, fans of the 'space opera' genre were delighted with the film, but most reviewers dismissed the feature as lame 'shtick', thinking the whole "Star Wars" 'thing' had run its course and best left forgotten. But the fans were right, the film was successful and now producer Brooks with backing from Amazon MGM is finally moving forward at ‘ludicrous speed’, to prep a sequel, to be directed by Josh Greenbaum:
The original "Spaceballs", currently streaming on Max, sees many of the main cast pass away, including John Candy as 'Barf'...
... Joan Rivers as 'Dot Matrix', Dom DeLuise as 'Pizza The Hut'...
...and Phil Hartman as 'Dink'.
But Bill Pullman as 'Lone Star' and Daphne Zuniga as 'Princess Vespa' are still working.

We've been hearing rumors of a potential Spaceballs sequel for many years, and it's now been confirmed that a follow-up to Mel Brooks' '80s Star Wars spoof is officially in the works.
The movie is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with Josh Gad set to star and produce alongside Brooks. Josh Greenbaum will direct the film from a screenplay by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad.
Plot details are still under wraps, but the original movie was a full-on farce, following the general plot of Star Wars: A New Hope while also making fun of other space-set or sci-fi properties such as Star Trek, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Planet of the Apes and Alien.

Josh Gad and Mel Brooks are coming together to make Spaceballs 2 a thing: and it sounds like the project is quite far advanced.
In the back catalogue of Mel Brooks comedies, Spaceballs isn’t amongst the top tier stuff I’d argue, but his spoof of Star Wars returns a hefty laugh count. Particularly if you’re a fan of George Lucas’ original trilogy, there’s much to be gleamed from the likes of Rick Moranis and the late John Candy having clear fun with the project.
Out of the blue, we now learn that the 1987 original appears to be getting a sequel. Josh Gad is reportedly attached to produce and star in the new film, that Mel Brooks is involved with, and is producing.

The Schwartz awakens! That's right folks, 80s Star Wars satirical spoof Spaceballs is getting a sequel at long last. And before you say "Oh no, not again," John Hurt style, per Deadline's reporting, a veritable galaxy of talent are working to take us back to that galaxy very, very, very, very far away. Frozen's Josh Gad — who not-so-subtly teased the project on Instagram last week (see below) — is attached to produce and star the Amazon bound project, Og Spaceballs writer-director Mel Brooks is also aboard as a producer, and Barb And Star Go To Vista Del Mar director Josh Greenbaum is set to direct from a script by Gad and Detective Pikachu duo Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

The best parody movies do a great job of mimicking other films. Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs got the look and feel of a Star Wars movie right, but Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill is nowhere to be seen. During an interview, Hamill explained why he didn’t appear in Brook’s space opera.
Mark Hamill wanted to be in Mel Brook’s ‘Spaceballs’
Hamill has played some iconic roles, such as The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series and Chucky in the remake of Child’s Play. However, he will always be associated with Star Wars first and foremost. He also appeared in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, a film that alludes to Star Wars in its title. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was directed by Kevin Smith, who has referenced Hamill’s signature franchise in his work on several occasions.

In an age when multiple classic movies that don’t need sequels are getting sequels, the latest film to get this treatment is the 1987 Star Wars parody Spaceballs. The original film was directed, produced, and co-written by comedy legend Mel Brooks (who also acted in it). Brooks will once again act as producer, with actor/comedian Josh Gad set to star and co-produce, and co-write the film for Amazon/MGM.
While the film is in early development and the plot is being kept under wraps, we can only imagine what we might see. The first Spaceballs film primarily parodied the original Star Wars trilogy with a few references to Alien, Star Trek, and Planet of the Apes. But with multiple new sci-fi franchises like Avatar becoming popular, you never know what they might do next. Not to mention all the new Star Wars movies since then.
Unfortunately, a decent amount...
