The network has greenlit the Ripped from the Headlines film Yoga Teacher Killer: The Kaitlin Armstrong Story — which stars the real-life couple and Larissa Dias (When Calls the Heart) — as part of its summer slate.

Just after the school year ended in June 1984, I went to a friend’s house on a Friday night to watch the premiere of Carlin on Campus, an HBO concert of one of my favorite comedians, the legendary George Carlin. When the concert was over, my friend switched around until he reached NBC-tv. They were airing When A Stranger Calls, a 1979 thriller starring Carol Kane, Charles Durning, and Colleen Dewhurst. I saw the film from the beginning, and the first twenty or so minutes had me utterly captivated. It presented a scenario that I found to be terrifying, and apparently so did Rex Reed, whose proclamation “some of the most terrifying sequences ever filmed” was used in the newspaper ads. I thought it was so original – until I saw Bob Clark’s frightening Black Christmas (1974) four years later and saw where the “inspiration” may have come from.

Scream Factory has just announced their newest remastered blu-rays, with releases planned throughout December and January.

December 12th will see blu-ray/DVD combo packs for both Death Valley and The Island. In Death Valley, a family goes for a vacation in California's Death Valley, only to discover they are being stalked by a madman. In The Island, Michael Caine is an investigative journalist who starts researching Bermuda Triangle-like disappearances and becomes embroiled in pirate violence. Neither film has been released on blu-ray or DVD until now, and both have been remastered, and include key art and theatrical trailers. Death Valley also includes an audio commentary from director Dick Richards.

When I was growing up in Texas, there was a channel that showed the most outrageous horror films, and the majority of the time, they were even uncensored. The problem is, as you grow older, it becomes increasingly harder and harder to find these films. For a nostalgia buff like myself, this is criminal. Fortunately, for myself and I’m certain many others, there’s Scream Factory, the new horror based off-shoot of the great label, Shout Factory.

So, it’s with great pleasure that we announce that on September 18, 2012, Shout! Factory is releasing Halloween II Collector’s Edition and Halloween III: Season of the Witch 30th Anniversary Special Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray and DVD. Shout! Factory recently announced Scream Factory, their new series of restored Blu-ray horror titles. Halloween II and III are the first movies that will be released and we have some new information when you can pick up The Funhouse and Terror Train.

Similar to the Halloween releases, The Funhouse and Terror Train will be released as Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo packs. Bonus features have not been announced, but both movies are set for release on October 16th. Shout! Factory excited horror fans last week with the announcement of Scream Factory, their new Blu-ray/DVD series that would focus on high-quality classic horror film releases. The first lineup will include Halloween II and III, along with They Live, The Funhouse, Phantasm II, and more. While originally listed as a single disc release, it has been revealed that the Halloween II special edition will include a second disc with the rare TV version:

I just love nutjobs on the Internet, don't you? recently, on the Hallmark Channel community, a new crazy created a forum topic asking Hallmark Channel to please stop actress Catherine Hicks from appearing on the network anymore because of her work in horror movies. Hicks starred in Chucky's debut movie Child's Play, the thriller Turbulence, as Dr. Gillian Taylor in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and the 1982 slasher Death Valley. Oh! And she's also the mom on 7th Heaven, the obnoxious family show now running on The Hallmark Channel.
