Don’t mess with the one-armed man — did you know that at 56 years, Spencer Tracy could whup Ernest Borgnine to a frazzle? John Sturges knocked this one out of the ballpark and booted his career into high gear. It’s well remembered… but does anyone remember that the subject is the murder of a Japanese-American? It’s a combo social issue film And a tough guy western.

Laughing out loud and retching.
That's what I'll remember about BrainDead Season 1 Episode 9, because I did both in equal measure. Gareth probably did more of the latter, as he didn't find it very funny at all that Laurel's sex life was under scrutiny by Red and his new friend, Ashley.
Especially since Gareth fell prey to the lies printed in the enormously thick file. Whoops.
The ears and alients took a backseat to the political scandals on "Taking on Water..." as a special prosecutor was named to look into a leak that meant Claudia Monarch went live with the news there was no tie between the Syrians and head explosions.
Brooke Adams' character was the ultimate leak, but Red was trying to pin it on the Healys. Why not? They're on the other side of the aisle. Do we even know on what side of the aisle Adams' character sit?...

It’s impossible to create a list on the internet, especially when it comes to movies, without starting a hotly contested debate. And while CineFix's “Top 10 Most Beautiful Movies of All-Time” will certainly stir some arguments, they shy away from making it a definitive ranking, instead breaking things down into ten different categories. Read More: 20 Visually Stunning Movies That Go For Broke Some of the categories include: European cinema, black-and-white in the modern era, Asian cinema, sweeping Hollywood epics, etc. Altogether, the aim is to pick a movie that’s purely a representation of cinematic beauty, whether it’s the striking 70mm desert imagery of “Lawrence of Arabia,” the deep focus cinematography of “Citizen Kane,” or the decadent use of color in “Hero.” It’s not so much about how the cinematography services the movie. They’re instead picking movies that would look like a masterful painting if you pressed the pause button.

Professional wrestling legend “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has grappled with Ric Flair in the ring and engaged Keith David in an alleyway brawl in They Live, but in Troma’s Pro Wrestlers vs Zombies, he faces his most relentless enemy yet: the living dead.
Trapped in an abandoned prison by a growing zombie horde, Piper and a group of fellow pro wrestlers, including “The Franchise” Shane Douglas and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, must utilize their body-slamming skills to survive the night. For the latest part of our Q&A series, we caught up with Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies writer/director Cody Knotts, who told us all about his experience making the movie.
The cast of Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies is comprised of just that: pro wrestlers and zombies. From “Rowdy” Roddy Piper to “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan to “The Franchise” Shane Douglas, there are some huge pro wrestlers attached to this project. Could...

Apparently, after all those magnificent years of creating hilarious, crowd-pleasing comedies Juliusz Machulski (Vabank, Sexmission, Kiler) has finally lost his comedic touch. His oeuvre is like an almost never-ending bag of laugh-inducing creations and a source of great joy, mostly for all fellow compatriots who tried to escape from the harsh reality of People's Republic of Poland by plunging into an expertly designed world filled with timeless gags, wacky slapstick and spot-on dialogue. Though still far from retiring (at least everyone hopes so), Machulski and his creative vision seem to be growing further and further apart since 2004, a year in which he gave the world his last great film, Vinci.AmbaSSada (EmbaSSy, a title which refers to Nazi Party's elite military unit Schutzstaffel), Machulski's latest...

Life and Death of Colonel Blimp is one of those films I have read and heard about for years, and finally got to see. How nice to see a legendary “great film” and see it live up to, and in many ways surpass, its reputation. First a little back ground.
The Archers is one of the most honored and respected film production companies in the history of the cinema. Based in England, most of their films were produced, written and directed by two men, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Some of their films I have been familiar with for years, the incredible Black Narcissus. The equally incredible Red Shoes, one of the most honored, studied and dissected films ever made. College courses have been made around this one film, the Red Shoes, and it seems to be required viewing for anyone who dances or wants to dance ballet.

Juliusz Machulski, the director of many awe-inspiring hit Polish comedies (Vabank, Sexmission, Kiler), is going to tackle the topic that many Polish filmmakers have worked on since time immemorial. Meaning his next has a lot to do with World War II and Adolf Hitler. However, don't let the first impression from the trailer fool you - AmbaSSada (the double S is intended as it stands for the elite Nazi unit called Schutzstaffel) is an inventive surrealistic comedy that merges the past and present through a magical elevator that works as a random time traveling machine. A young couple that's about to move to a new apartment discovers a dark secret behind the history of their seemingly typical town house. Alternating between 1939 and 2012, the...

Baby lock them doors and turn the lights down low, because tonight the tenth insane season of "American Idol" is coming to a close.
It’s a cycle that brought us singing cleaning ladies, a scatting jazz freak, a galloping Nashville indie heartthrob, a growling sex kitten piñata, a pyromaniac rocker, a gospel lovin' spa concierge straight out of Compton, and, ultimately, two country fetus finalists who were born after Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" hit stores. With Simon Cowell on to bigger (and better?) projects, all eyes were on two new judges, more concerned with promoting their new singles than giving honest critiques.
Welcome to "American Idol X: Everybody’s Ridiculous (And Beautiful And Perfect!)"
The two hour seven minute finale spectacular kicks off at 8pm Edt, and I’ll be live-blogging every hot mess moment of it! The random cameos! The jaw-dropping group numbers! Randy Jackson’s sure-to-be-absurd outfit!

Sundance 2011 marks my first time at the festival, and the overwhelming task of having the chance to see literally hundreds of films and shorts makes it a daunting and exciting task to look forward to in my first adventure in snow-capped Park City. Many of these films will only be seen at this one time at the festival and then possibly never again due to various rights, distribution, unseen film politics, or just plain shoddy filmmaking (sad to say). So besides all of that hub-bub, here are the 11 films I can’t wait to see as the year’s festival kicks off from this Thursday, January 20th to the following Sunday of the 30th. Hobo With A Shotgun Go for broke and then go for some more actors. Rutger Hauer, looks like he is having a bloody good time as the title character in this faux grindhouse trailer turned feature film. The...

We at Mubi think that celebrating the films of 2010 should be a celebration of film viewing in 2010. Since all film and video is "old" one way or another, we present Out of a Past, a small (re-) collection of some of our favorite of 2010's retrospective viewings.

Bouteille cassée (Father Piet Verstegen M. Afr., 1952)
One morning, TO1..., comrade Möller's phone rang and a young woman with a refreshingly spunky voice said something like, Hi!, I'm that student your friend told you about—the one who's working on a documentary about the White Fathers retirement home. Today I'll have a look at the order's film collection—do you have time to come along? I could need your advise and the monk who takes care of it as well. Of course he had time—and finally the opportunity to see some of the works discussed in a hefty tome he'd bought almost...

Taking a date into The Grid, are you?
“Tron: Legacy” is a big deal. You can’t just mosey over to any ol’ theater, plunk down some cash for two tickets, grab a popcorn, sit there for two hours and then call it a night.
“Tron: Legacy” is an event, one that deserves an entire experience around it. So if you want the date to end well (and you know what we mean), there’s got to be more to the evening than just “going to the movies,” ya dig?
So, young player, here’s your Master Control Program to a perfect “Tron: Legacy” date:
Level 1
This date is so epic that it’s going to start the night before. Why? Because you need to watch the original “Tron” together. If you’ve never seen it (or even if it’s been, like, years since you’ve seen it), then...
