Allegedly, First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy made really good waffles. I say “allegedly” not because the waffles attributed to her in various cookbooks aren’t objectively good; they’re actually wonderfully airy and crisp, thanks to an innovative technique involving whipped egg whites and baking powder. But did she ever actually cook or consume the waffles? Does it matter? Didn’t she do enough for her country, between being the exceptionally tolerant wife of a blatantly randy president, the widowed mother of small children expected to bear up beautifully in public after her husband was murdered before her eyes,...

“Jackie” screenwriter Noah Oppenheim’s interest in former first lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy began early. “I’ve been obsessed and fascinated with her since was a little kid,” the screenwriter told TheWrap founder Sharon Waxman Monday after a screening of Pablo Larrain‘s Oscar contender. “My mother was a huge admirer of Jackie Kennedy. When I visited my grandmother’s house when I was 6 years old, I found this box in her room of newspapers and magazines from that week in 1963 that she had saved. That launched a lifelong interest in the Kennedys and Jackie in particular.” The Chilean director’s film,...

There are few things more deflating than the prospect of yet another Great Man biopic, a genre that's prone to cause even the best directors to stumble. The resulting films are often too rambling, too unfocused, too unnecessary—either misguided passion projects or empty stabs at “respectability.” In that respect, Jackie (Chilean director Pablo Larraín's second foray into biopic territory this year, after Neruda) sets itself apart. Centering on Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman) and largely confining its focus to the hours and days following her husband’s assassination in 1963, it’s less a biopic and more an intimate refraction of a national tragedy. And although somewhat uneven, it remains an intriguing, if frustrating affair—both a plunge into history and myth and a look at its creation, the manner by which “one brief shining moment that was known as Camelot” became embedded into a national consciousness.Opening at...

Often referred to as the “most unknown of the known women of the 20th century,” Fox Searchlight and director Pablo Larraín will soon cast light on the late, great Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis through Jackie, a buzzworthy biopic that is expected to fire Natalie Portman directly into the race for Best Actress in a few weeks’ time.
Set soon after JFK’s harrowing assassination in 1963, by the time Larraín’s long-in-development feature opens, we’re introduced to the former First Lady at her absolute lowest. After portraying Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy for the increasingly acclaimed film Jackie, Natalie Portman reveals that she came away admiring the former first lady for the strength she displayed throughout her life.

Jacqueline Kennedy was just 34 when her husband was elected President of the United States. Elegant, stylish, and inscrutable, she instantly became a global icon, one of the most famous women in the world, her taste in fashion, décor and the arts, widely admired.
Then, on November 22, 1963, while on a campaign trip to Dallas, John F. Kennedy is assassinated – Jackie’s pink suit is showered in her husband’s blood. As she boards Air Force One back to Washington, Jackie’s world – including her faith – is completely shattered. Traumatized and reeling with grief, over the course of the next week she must confront the unimaginable: consoling their two young children, vacating the home she painstakingly restored, and planning her husband’s funeral. Jackie quickly realizes that the next seven days will determine how history will define her husband’s legacy – and how she herself will be remembered.

Two of the most enveloping and visually striking films I’ve seen all year are Pablo Larraín‘s Neruda and Jackie, both of which arrive in theaters next month. Today brings a new trailer for the latter, the Natalie Portman-led biopic of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, recounting the days after JFK was assassinated. This new preview opens up more of what the director captures here, and notably how she interacts with the people closest to her (and American public at large) during these harrowing few days.
We said in our review, “It’s one of three films to be released by the prolific director in 2016 (alongside El Club and Neruda), as well as his first to be made in the United States and English. So many goodies in the cinemas candy store this upcoming Awards Season! Oh,boy, oh boy.
It’s “Good Movie Season” when we get Hollywood heavy-hitters (both top popcorn entertainment and Oscar wannabees), and the best of the film festival circuit, most recently from Toronto. Many films will have an awards qualifying run in 2016 and open officially in 2017.
While we have not seen some of these (although we have seen some trailers), some movies are sure to disappoint. That said, here is Wamg’s list of highly-anticipated films, both big blockbuster entertainment and seriously meaty cinema.

The last 24 hours have seen the release of three trailers for upcoming movies, including a brand new (and unexpected) thriller from Jordan Peele, and two powerful looking dramas. Come inside to check them out!
Sometimes, movie news likes to land all at once, with multiple things hitting at the same time. Such was the case with these three trailers, so instead of spreading them out over a few articles, I thought it'd be easier to lump them all together...Especially considering these are the first trailers for all three films. Let's start out with something unexpected:
Get Out comes as a big surprise being written and direted by Jordan Peele (Key & Peele). No one knew he was making this movie, let alone a thriller that seems at odds with his normal wheelhouse. Either way, it looks kinda neat, even if the trailer gives away most of it.

Revealing enough but not too much is this first teaser trailer for Pablo Larraín’s Jackie, for me, one of the best films of the year. Natalie Portman stars as the widowed First Lady, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, in the days following her husband’s assassination. In addition to being a bold psychological portrait, it’s also a clear-eyed dissection of the Camelot myth, referenced here, ironically, through Richard Harris’ singing.

Fox Searchlight has released the teaser trailer for their upcoming film Jackie, starring Oscar winner Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy. Lrm recently reviewed the film at this year's Tiff, which you can read by clicking Here.
Back during the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the most talked about films seemed to be Jackie — a film set days after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Sure, that event has had more than its fair share of adaptations, but this one follows the effect the murder had on the First Lady, the titularJackie.
While one would expect a film based on a well-worn like this to be rather traditional in its approach, from everything I’ve read, this one gives the subject matter a mores personal touch. By all accounts, Portman gives a tour de force performance that’s expected to make her a shoo-in for a Best Actress nomination at the coming Academy Awards.

It’ll be hard for me to read, hear, type, or say the title of Pablo Larraín‘s new film without hearing ’60s-era Scott Walker and a charging backing band, but most have been kind enough for me to think Jackie can stand on its own. Most of the praise for his Natalie Portman-led biopic of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy has concerned its lack of resemblance to the typical story-of-a-great-figure mold, critics having noted its formal boldness. You’ll get a taste of that in the first preview, which Fox Searchlight have released in advance of its December opening.

Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy: 'Jackie.' Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy in 'Jackie' Notwithstanding the box office-friendly Thor movies, which revolve around Chris Hemsworth in the title role, Natalie Portman has yet to have a star vehicle as impactful as Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, which earned her the Best Actress Academy Award nearly five years ago. Who knows, perhaps Pablo Larraín's Jackie will be one such vehicle; the biopic following U.S. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the days after President John F. Kennedy assassination is slated for a 2017 release. The image above is the official “first look,” initially posted at Deadline.com. Also in the Jackie cast: Peter Sarsgaard as Robert Kennedy, Max Casella, Beth Grant, and Greta Gerwig. Darren Aronofsky and Juan de Dios Larraín are the two credited producers, while Noah Oppenheim (The Maze Runner, The Divergent Series: Allegiant) is the credited screenwriter.

Once a sex symbol, always a sex symbol. Certainly in Jaclyn Smith's case, at least. The original Charlie's Angels star is celebrating her 70th birthday today and whatever it is she's doing... It's working. Smith, who covered many a bedroom wall alongside fellow poster girls Farrah Fawcett and Kate Jackson in the 1970s, is still pretty pinup-worthy as far as we're concerned. After Charlie's Angels wrapped its six-year run in 1981, Smith became a fixture on the small screen in TV movies—she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her title role in Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy—and she had a cameo in 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. She also famously turned into a...

National Geographic Channel chose today — which would have been the diamond wedding anniversary of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy and John Fitzgerald Kennedy — to announce the premiere date for its JFK assassination movie. Anyone else creeped out by that? Anyway, Killing Kennedy, based on the book of same name by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard, will premiere on Sunday, November 10. It’s timed to the 50th anniversary of the assassination. Killing Kennedy will be released globally in 171 countries, in 48 languages. NatGeo’s first original feature, Killing Lincoln, premiered in February to a crowd of 3.4 million, which made it the most-watched program in the network’s history. Killing Lincoln also was based on a book of same name also by O’Reilly and Dugard. (Watch an exclusive clip from Killing Kennedy after the jump.) Rob Lowe, who plays JFK in the Nat Geo flick, called the Kennedy family our nation’s royalty...

National Geographic has scored a pretty good casting coup for its upcoming original movie "Killing Kennedy": Rob Lowe and Ginnifer Goodwin will star as John and Jacqueline Kennedy.
The film has also signed Michelle Trachtenberg, late of "Gossip Girl," to play Marina Oswald, Lee Harvey Oswald's wife.
"Killing Kennedy" is based on the best-selling book by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard that chronicles the events leading up to JFK's assassination on Nov. 22, 1963. It focuses on Kennedy and Lee Harvey Oswald (who has yet to be cast) and key events in their lives that led them both to Dallas that day.
Kelly Masterson ("Before the Devil Knows You're Dead") is writing the script for the movie, which Nelson McCormick ("Touch," "Southland") will direct.
Lowe ("Parks and Recreation," "Behind the Candelabra") joins a long list of actors who have played John F. Kennedy over the years, among them Greg Kinnear...

Betty Hofstadt Draper Francis. That’s a lot of names — as many as Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, as many as Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. And this season, Betty has felt like several different people at once. In the season premiere, she somehow achieved the moral high ground in an interaction with a gaggle of dirty hippies, and then immediately ceded the moral high ground, dying her hair brown for vague-but-definitely-weird reasons. When Martin Luther King was shot, she was a nagging ex-wife on the phone to Don (drunk as usual) and a chastising mom for Bobby (unusually sentient). When husband...

Criminal Minds has announced a major casting move.
Jeanne Tripplehorn will join the CBS drama as a series regular on season 8, coming on board as “a new profiler,” according to producer Erica Messer. “Her character will be introduced in the premiere.”
Tripplehorn helped anchor HBO's Big Love for five seasons; earned an Emmy nod for her portrayal of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy in Grey Gardens; and appeared most recently on multiple New Girl episodes.
Her casting is meant to offset the loss of Paget Brewster, who exited after Criminal Minds Season 7.

Today's Challenge: Along with sharing a first name, Tom Wilkinson and Tom Skerritt have both played Joe Kennedy Sr. — in The Kennedys (premiering April 3 on ReelzChannel) and Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, respectively. Can you find their movie connection?
Our first Facebook movie game, ClusterFlick, plays off that old "six degrees of separation" theory — you know, the one that has a certain Kevin at the center of the Hollywood universe. It's easy to play, but not so easy to win. The goal is to use the major cast of movies to get from Point A to Point B in the smallest number of moves.

Contrary to circulating report, Katie Holmes will not visit the William McKinley High on the upcoming season of "Glee". Representative for the 31-year-old has slammed rumor suggesting that the actress best known as Joey Potter of "Dawson's Creek" is negotiating for a guest role on the hit musical comedy series, simply telling Gossip Cop the story is "not true."
The National Enquirer was the one which brought up in the first place the possibility that the wife of Tom Cruise will be a future guest star on the series. The friendship the Rachel Dawes of "Batman Begins" has with show creator Ryan Murphy as well as cast member Dianna Agron has reportedly led to the talks.
"Katie is finalizing a deal to join the cast for a limited story line next season," a source told the tabloid over the casting posibility. "Katie's film career has stalled, and she's desperately needs a career boost.
