Set in a cinematographer’s dream in the midst of the picturesque landscape of the Italian Apennines, director Marco Pattarozzi’s Butterflies (Farfalle) is a haunting thriller tinged coming-of-age tale of youthful impetuosity, embarking on adulthood and how prejudice and repression cultivate a persistent sense of inadequacy. Born out of Pattarozzi’s conflicted bond with home and the long-held relationships fostered there, the script came naturally and provided the writer/director with an ideal opportunity to showcase his region while concurrently recounting a powerfully lacerating narrative. Butterflies doesn’t just focus on those on the cusp of adulthood but also examines the intergenerational clashes and intricate relationships inevitably found in smaller rural communities for good and for ill. With Butterflies premiering on Dn today, we invited Pattarozzi to speak to us about the motivations behind his desire to cast actors with regional accents native to the area, receiving crucial funding...

Finnish director Ulla Heikkilä chose the “best actors she could think of” for sophomore feature “Summer is Crazy,” featuring “Fallen Leaves” star Jussi Vatanen, Aamu Milonoff (“Girl Picture”), Jani Volanen (“Hatching”), Pirjo Lonka and Bruno Baer (“Light Light Light”).
“They brought their general ‘bestness’. It’s simply a luxury to work with such intelligent, skillful and charismatic actors. They are all very good at showing human condition in a bold and ‘naked’ manner,” she told Variety.
In the upcoming “Summer is Crazy,” set in the Finnish archipelago during the Midsummer week, one family – as well as their friends and lovers – deal with disappointments and dream of a better tomorrow.
After the bankruptcy of their fine-dining restaurant, the Eerolas are stuck in a seaside village. In the shadow of the father’s depression, both the mother and the teenaged daughter rebel against their stagnant life – each in their own way.

While FromSoftware’s latest release manages to absorb and showcase the absolute best parts of Elden Ring, it, unfortunately, does the absolute opposite in some respects as well.
Ever since its release last month, the Shadow of the Erdtree Dlc has been in deep waters due to defying the expectations of the players, and not in a good way. Owing to that, fans seem to have finally agreed on what the worst part of the Realm of Shadow is that nobody likes.

Turkish director Tolga Karaçelik, who made a splash in the U.S. with absurdist comedy “Butterflies,” is getting ready to premiere his first English-language film, “The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer,” in which the offbeat serial killer in question is played by Steve Buscemi.
The New York-set film, which takes Karaçelik’s comic streak in a new direction, will launch on Saturday from the Tribeca Film Festival. “The Shallow Tale” also features John Magaro (“Past Lives”) as Keane, a struggling writer who befriends the “retired” serial killer, who eventually becomes Keane’s unlikely marriage counselor as he goes through divorce proceedings with his straight-laced wife (Britt Lower), as well as the muse for his next book.

Kacey Musgraves, the esteemed Grammy-winning country singer, is celebrating her fifth studio album Deeper Wells with a tour by the same name, which commenced its journey on April 28 in Dublin, Ireland.
Hailing from the heartland of Texas and launching her career in Nashville in 2013, Musgraves made an indelible mark with her major-label debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, which garnered a Grammy Award for Best Country Album. What distinguishes Musgraves within the world of country music is her whimsical playfulness and tongue-in-cheek flamboyance.

A Round of Applause is a reality check for audiences about the existential crisis that we all have been facing in modern times. The Turkish drama helps us find meaning in the meaningless activities of the characters. Accomplished actors like Aslihan Gurbuz, Fatih Artman, and Cihat Suvarioglu have added to the charm of the series. Ben Oya has done an excellent job of successfully executing such an absurd theme, which wouldn’t have been possible without the skilled cast. Other imminent faces, like Cengiz Bozkurt, have also added special value to the drama, making it stand out amidst the other satirical dramas.

L.A.-based Wild Sheep Content, headed by former Netflix international honcho Erik Barmack, is adapting German No.1 bestseller “When Butterflies Fly Loops” for Mexico, as it branches out into unscripted with Adal Ramones, Mexico’s No.1 standup, and boards Lucía Puenzo’s gangster epic, “The Gunwoman (Pepita’s Legend).”
Starring Luisana Lopilato, and just announced, “Gunwoman” reps a “giant story” account, said Puenzo, of real life mobster Margarita Di Tulio, which is backed by a far-ranging consortium of good and great players in and outside Argentina.
All three titles see Wild Sheep driving ever deeper into big IP in highly packaged and star-laden projects, while branching out in sectors and territorial reach – strategies which may well become text-book tactics as streamers and broadcasters pull back on commissions or buys over much of international.

Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” has officially arrived to turn the rest of the summer pink, just like Lizzo’s song that kicks off the film’s soundtrack. The “Barbie” album is available on vinyl, and it includes a collection of some of pop culture’s most-talked-about musical artists, perfect for the contemporary take on Mattel’s 63-year-old toy. Balanced with fun sugary bops and more existential ballads, the “Barbie” soundtrack compliments the fun and more serious themes behind the doll in the movie, directed and co-written by Greta Gerwig.”
One might think that Lady Gaga’s “Plastic Doll” or the Foo Fighters’ “Doll” or even Melanie Martinez’s “Dollhouse” would feature on the soundtrack to a film about plastic dolls, but Mark Ronson recruited quite a roster of talent to write new original songs for the movie. Star Dua Lipa has a disco-y dance number, and Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice...

Ryan Gosling’s Ken — like most white men his age — loves a good Nineties band. In Barbie, which was released Friday, Gosling performs an emotional guitar rendition of “Push,” the song by Matchbox Twenty in a particularly low moment for his character’s narrative and his relationship with Barbie.
“And I feel like something’s gonna give/And I’m a little bit angry, well,” he sings with a twang of desperation. “This ain’t over, no, not here/Not while I still need you around/You don’t owe me,...

Who better than non-binary icon Sam Smith to sing a song called “Man I Am“? On Friday, as Barbie hit theaters, Smith released the single from the film’s soundtrack, where they sing from the perspective of Ken.
The lyrics are silly and dedicated to “the boys with your greased-up and heavy metal toys. So beefed up you can’t get through the door” as Smith jokes in a lower-octave voice, “No I’m not gay bro, but I’ve been on that lay low.”

Barbie is finally in theaters, and along with it is Barbie: The Album, a dance-inducing soundtrack curated by Mark Ronson featuring songs from Lizzo, Charli Xcx, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Haim, Tame Impala, and more. Listen to the album below.
Greta Gerwig’s film opens with Lizzo’s “Pink,” which soundtracks the titular doll’s perfect life in Barbieland and serves as an ode to the color that experienced a shortage thanks to the movie’s production. From there, Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night,” a former Consequence Song of the Week, naturally coincides with a jubilant dance number where the film’s ensemble cast can really shine.
Other highlights from the Barbie soundtrack include Charli Xcx’s “Speed Drive,” Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?,” and, of course, Ryan Gosling’s ballad, “I’m Just Ken.” We wouldn’t want to spoil the movie with any more...

With colorful vinyl variants, Nicki Minaj singles, and record-store listening parties, the star-studded soundtrack Barbie the Album has become as much of a cultural phenomenon as the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starring film itself. Produced by Mark Ronson, Barbie the Album shines on its own as a fun sonic reimagining of the Barbie storyline with a hint of nostalgia, featuring some of the biggest acts in music.

CAA has signed Tolga Karaçelik, the Turkish director of Sundance-winning film “Butterflies,” for representation in all areas.
Based in Istanbul, writer-director Karaçelik is one of Turkey’s top film creatives and has previously been profiled by Variety. His films “Ivy,” set aboard a stranded cargo ship, and “Butterflies,” a dark comedy prompted by the death of his late uncle, both premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
“Butterflies” went on to receive the Park City, Utah festival’s Grand Jury Award in 2018, making Karaçelik the first Turkish director to win the prize.
After first getting a law degree in Turkey, Karaçelik went on to study filmmaking in New York before eventually returning to Turkey to film his debut feature “Toll Booth” (2010), about a Turkish toll-station worker with a vivid imagination. Let’s take a look at this year’s contenders for these honors.

Producer/songwriter Rob Grimaldi is the man of the moment in pop music.
He was behind the board and one of the songwriters for BTS’s biggest and fastest-selling hit, “Butter,” which holds the record for this year for the longest run at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, and has had millions of streaming views.
But he’s also had the magic touch with female K-pop group Blackpink’s “Love to Hate Me” and Queen Naija’s hits “Butterflies” and “Mama’s Hand.” He’s also worked with Jimmie Allen, Tim McGraw, Noah Cyrus and had sync licensing placements with My Little Pony, Mcdonalds, Samsung, Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, ESPN, Netflix, MTV, and more.
He answered a few questions from Deadline on his current success in K-pop and other genres.

Since mid-January, Pelin Distas, Netflix’s director of original content for Turkey, has happily started going back to work in a physical office in Istanbul. It’s still just a temporary base for the streaming giant, which has plans to launch a proper Turkish outpost in the second half of 2021.
The new Netflix office “will be our commitment to the local creative industry,” Distas says, noting that it’s been “really hard” for her team to manage the 10 Turkish originals that Netflix currently has in different stages of production remotely. Opening the Netflix hub “will be really healthy [for both Netflix and Turkish producers]” as the streamer ramps up plans to “more than double down” on its Turkish output that so far has averaged four or five local shows per year, Distas notes.
But the key aspect of Netflix’s boots-on-the-ground presence in Turkey won’t just be an uptick in content.

Whether you are attending Sundance or not, whether you are a film professional or not, if you follow films, the Sundance By Numbers Report is the only comprehensive look at the approximately 120 films at the festival, with director, writers and producers, cast, international sales agents, U.S. and other distributors, synopsis and contact names.
What are the chances of getting into film festivals if you are a near unknown filmmaker? Sundance itself is proud to point out that of the 121 feature-length films selected, 53 are by first time filmmakers including 30 in competition. But this year, what I see looking at the lineup of Sundance, makes me question how the selections are made. To me it looks like programmers brought in films from well-known suppliers. Nearly every film is represented by an established international sales agent or by one of the Hollywood talent agencies acting as the producer representative. 81 out of 118 have international sales agents. That means 37 have no sales agent.

Tube Talk Gold has looked back at many classic sitcoms, but there aren't many shows that can truly hold the mantle of 'Gold', and this month's edition focuses on a truly British institution, featuring some of the UK's most favourite characters, catchphrases and moments for over 20 years.
After a near-miss Us remake starring John 'Luigi from Super Mario Bros' Leguizamo, the legacy of Only Fools and Horses can carry on untarnished.
Only Fools and Horses - Originally broadcast from September 8, 1981 to February 3, 1991 and Christmas specials from 1991 to 2003.
John Sullivan had already created the successful sitcom Citizen Smith for the BBC when he was commissioned to write a new series. Influenced by the popularity of ITV's Minder, he came up with an idea of a cockney market trader in modern-day London. Using a strange old American saying for its title, he wrote a series that would go on to become possibly the UK's best-loved comedy.

My DVD of Just Like a Woman (1967), pre-ordered months earlier and delayed because it was in the same order as The Devils (1971), arrived two days after its director, Robert Fuest, died. Come to think of it, I think Ken Russell was still alive when I ordered The Devils. An obituary double feature.

I was very keen to see Just Like a Woman, Fuest’s first feature, even though I wasn’t expecting it to be particularly good.
