A lack of production values prevents Yesterday from getting a better rating. But
this Canadian production is a fine film aboutlove and sacrifice.
Young Vincent Van Patten is attending college in Canada on a hockey scholarship and falls for coed Clare Pimpare. A rather stupid juvenile prank costs him the athletic scholarship and he has to go back to America to face the draft.
Van Patten goes back o America and Vietnam and comes out the worst for it in body. Pimpare is led to believe he's been killed. And she's with childnow.
Van Patten and Pimpare are as sensitive and tender a pair of young lovers as you'll find. There are good performances from Eddie Albert and Cloris Leachman as Van Patten's grandparents.
Yesterday is Vincent Van Patten's career film. A pity this film is not better known.

I saw this movie one time in 1981 on HBO and have looked for it since.
No movie has ever touched me the way this movie has. Until today, I didn't even know the name of the movie only that a Van Patten played the lead male role. I don't know why but finding this movie has been heavy on my mind lately.
It is the best love story ever made and I will spend the next 23 years searching for a copy of it if need be. If anyone can advise me please reply.

I have found this film to be absolutely unforgettable. Obviously, after seeing many years ago, I am still touched by it. It was a love story that truly touched my heart.
In fact, I am trying very hard to find a copy. I want very much to be able to watch it someday.
If anyone happens to have ANY information, please let me know.
I think this love story got tucked away and shouldn't have. I bet there a lot of people that would love it now, but have no idea it even exists.

I caught this movie (as This Time Forever) in a hotel room. It was late and I couldn't sleep. Due to the hour, I didn't expect much. Boy, was I wrong! This flick caught my attention and held it from start to finish. Love stories are normally not my thing but this one was different. There is nothing special about the movie. The interaction of the characters seemed to touch the right buttons for me. If you get the chance, watch it. Its worth the rental fee.
I have been showing this film to high school students taking a film class for years. They love it because it has comedy and drama. The ending surprises them all. Great teaching tool to explain the French Speaking vs. English Speaking Canadians; the Vietnam War. I always have good discussions about the characters' problems and the choices that they made to solve these problems. Most of my students didn't even know that Quebec is a French speaking province; had no knowledge of "being drafted" or "draft dodging". Good film all around.Great theme song, also!!! We all love Claire Pimpare the lead actress!!!

I love this movie. I discovered it many years ago and was lucky enough to find it on an on line auction. It is a "chick flick" and leaves me crying everytime. WHen she says "Matthew" with her French accent me and my friends just want to scream into the television. I recommend it to anyone -- if you can find it.
I'm so sorry I can't find this movie anywhere! I watched it 23 times in the cinemas in 80's and then impossible to find it on Audio Video or DVD or in net.But this movie is amazing!!! Is that possible some one in this world to make it available again??!!!!! I want very much to have it in my own movie's collection. The story in this movie is nice not only because of this strong love. They should make more such movies!!! If someone read this and could give me advice how to find this movie for watching it would be great! I will appreciate any information and any way to have this movie! And I'm sure also one day, when my kids can see it they will love it with sure , so this would be nice present for them from me to save it. Thanks! Dani
AFI just released their list of top 100 Romance films and unfortunately, this little overlooked gem didn't make their list - not even their list of nominees.
Well, it makes my top 100 list of romance films, easy. In fact, whenever I think about romance films, this one comes to mind almost immediately.
I was able to get a copy recently through e-bay, under the title, "This Time Forever."
Great story about love, duty, family expectations, and the struggle to do the right thing. Highly recommend this one!

I saw this film for the first time on HBO on a wet June Sunday night in 1982 in my apartment in Manhattan. I couldn't get to sleep so I turned on the TV and lo and behold, 'This Time Forever' was about to start. I had no idea what the film was about but once I started watching it I became captivated by it. It was very emotional and apart from going to bed late I felt very down the next day.
By no means is this meant to be a discouragement to those wanting to see the film but a comment about its powerful theme that applies to both genders, all sexual persuasions and all races. The reason being is that it is about love and passion between two people who care very much about themselves in the face of obstructions forced upon them and that is why it transcends all boundaries.

I saw this film in the summer of '82 on HBO but it was called This Time Forever. I had never heard of it but since I am a fan of Eddie Albert and Cloris Leachman, I decided to give it a try. It turned out to be one of the best films I had ever seen. It is not a sordid film about a teenager trying to lose his virginity and nor is it a sappy love story about two young people falling in love against their parents' wishes. It is about a young man trying to choose where his real loyalties lie; his duty to serve his country or remain with the lady he loves. The problem is that it is very hard to find today and it is almost never shown anymore. If anyone gets the chance to see it, I highly recommend it. You may be just as surprised as I am.

What a surprisingly brilliant film, and not very well known (not anyone I have ever spoken of it to has seen it). The film is primarily a love story, certainly one of my favourites. There were a couple of odd editing errors I noticed, but that adds to the quaintness and I think originality of the film. There are little sub-plots in the film, discrimination, war, and moral dilemmas. I, like another reviewer first saw this film 20 or so years ago,and have been incredibly lucky to have it on video. However, it is very well viewed now, and the quality isn't so good anymore so would love to see it on DVD. Anyone know how to get hold of a copy? Has it ever been released on DVD?

I first saw this movie on cable TV back in the early '80s and taped it. I was one of the early video recorder owners and fell in love with the film and recorded it. It was titled "This Time Forever". I'm not sure why it's showing up on IMDb as "Yesterday". Regardless, I had taped it and watched it quite a few times over the years until 2004 when I lost my video collection during a move. I was so happy to find this on YouTube (as "This Time Forever". The emotions came flooding back as if it was the 1980s all over again. It is interesting to look back on this cultural aspect of the Vietnam War when some young American men opted to migrate to Canada as opposed to participating in an unpopular war. It still brought tears to my eyes.
