All of the insects and arachnids used in the prison escape sequence in the film were real.
Although passed uncut for theatrical release in 1979 by the BBFC, the uncertified home video release appeared briefly on the UK list of video nasties in 1984. It has never been re-released in the UK ever since.
The prison in the film was actually an abandoned youth correctional facility.
In the 2018 remastered Blu-ray version of the film released by Scorpion Releasing, an audio commentary with director Gregory Goodell and moderated by Waters and Lee Christian is included, with an informative conversation covering subjects ranging from the origin of the film's odd title to the assembly of its impressive cast and the study of little children that helped one key performance in it.
