New Order have announced a “definitive” box set of their 1986 album, Brotherhood, out November 22nd via Warner Music. What’s more, they’re separately reissuing the 12-inch singles for “Bizarre Love Triangle,” “State of the Nation,” and “Touched by the Hand of God.”
The Brotherhood collection features nine unreleased songs and demos from a 1985 recording session in Japan alongside remixes and their contributions to the soundtrack of Beth B’s film Salvation. Among these tracks are the full-length version of “Every Little Counts” and instrumental versions of “All Day Long” and “Broken Promise.”

Also included are DVDs containing live performances at Brixton Academy, G-Mex Manchester, and Glastonbury, as well as TV shows from the UK and Europe — all of which are coming to DVD for the first time. Pre-orders for Brotherhood Definitive Edition and the 12-inch reissues are ongoing.

Donald Trump rejected the beliefs of alt-right movement, telling the New York Times during a meeting on Tuesday “I disavow the group.” Richard B. Spencer, the leading ideologue of the alt-right movement, delivered a speech on Saturday night in Washington D.C. that railed against Jews and said America belongs to white people. Trump was asked about the conference on Tuesday during a wide-ranging, on-the-record conversation with the Times. Journalist Julie Davis, who was in the room, tweeted that Trump condemned the remarks. Also Read: Breitbart Rips Donald Trump Over 'Broken Promise' to Prosecute Hillary Clinton Times editor...

President-elect Donald Trump is against the electoral college, again. Trump, who lost the popular vote but won the electoral college vote to beat Hillary Clinton, tweeted in 2012 that the electoral college was “a disaster for a democracy.” He changed his tune when he won because of the electoral college, tweeting, “The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play.” On Tuesday, in a meeting with the New York Times, he changed his mind again, saying he could win the popular vote if that’s what it took. The hugely popular Korean “Whispering Corridors” horror franchise series returned home last year for a great fifth instalment in Whispering Corridors 5: Blood pledge - a tale of teen suicide pacts and vengeful (aren’t they always) spirits - and now its heading for release on U.S Blu-ray/DVD via Tokyo Shock, under the re-jigged title ‘A Blood Pledge: Broken Promise.’ All the bloody fun arrives February 8th. Synopsis: A broken suicide pact leads to a malevolent mystery at a Catholic girls' school in South Korea. When Jung-un discovers her older sister Unjoo has taken her own life, she's devastated. Convinced that her sister wouldn't commit suicide, and disturbed by rumours making the rounds at school, Jung-un begins a comprehensive investigation into Unjoo's untimely death. Just before Unjoo died, she made a suicide pact with fellow students Soy, Eugene, and Eun-young. So why are the other girls still alive?...

Jake Chapman In Conversation, London
You'd think twice about asking an artist who's spent more hours than anyone ought to making mannequins of children with genitals for mouths and modelling Nazi soldiers into a vast tableau of hell to pick his favourite film. But then again, the dependably confrontational Chapman also described the death of Bambi's mother as the most traumatic moment of his childhood, the lightweight. Chapman is the first of a series of artists presenting a formative film in this new intiative, in association with the charity Art Fund. He'll be talking to the Guardian's Adrian Searle about Sidney Lumet's overlooked 1972 The Offence, a bravely gritty study of a copper whose career of violent crime cases wells up when he confronts a suspect paedophile. Bambi it ain't.

Chicago – We have now reached the fourth and final week of the 13th Annual European Union Film Festival at the Siskel Film Center, and what a fantastic festival it has been. From international sensations to critically acclaimed gems rarely available in the Us, the EU annual line-up is consistently one of the finest offered by any festival in the Windy City.
The first three weeks were loaded with highlights that just seemed to get better as the days progressed. Some of the selections, such as Austria’s diabolical delight “The Bone Man” and the Netherlands’ beguiling documentary “Rembrandt’s J’Accuse,” were more entertaining than the majority of mainstream Hollywood releases. Both France and Italy had several exceptional entries this year, including Amos Gitai’s spellbinding “Disengagement” and Luca Guadagnino’s ravishing “I Am Love.” Read more here, here and here.

What do 8 films on World War II -- all submitted for Academy Award consideration for Best Foreign Language Film by their originating countries -- have in common with two Chinese Films, City of Life and Death (Nanking Nanking) a 9th film about World War II and Quick Quick Slow?
1. They are all part of the Palm Springs International Film Festival. (White Ribbon, Winter in Wartime, Broken Promise, Ba’aria, Max Manus, Protektor, Draft Dodgers, Reverse - except for Ba'aria)
2. All the films are state financed.
3. All are male centric (except for Reverse).
3. All (perhaps not the romantic comedy Quick Quick Slow) reflect the realization that war is not a black and white issue but involves many shades of good and bad, personal decisions as well as national decisions, all are male centric, and all call for re-examination today as ultimate tools to destruction of all mankind in the face of...

This year, voting members will have to cover 69 picks, and slim it down to a neat five nominations and among the titles worth mentioning that didn't receive a possibility at an Oscar nomination we have City Of Life And Death and Lebanon. Unfortunately, even this list is imperfect as there is no mention of titles that were big with critics such as Women Without Men, I am Love, Hadewijch. - The Golden Globes do things a little differently than the Oscars when it comes time narrowing down the absolute best in foreign language cinema. The Hollywood Foreign press do without the politics of one film per country quota, which is great when a smaller nation has a stellar year with at least two worthwhile mentions, and just makes sense for the France film industry who on average, give several reasons to appreciate the 7th art. A record number of submissions has been made to the Golden Globes' race for best foreign-language film -- 69. Most interesting are the movies excluded from the Oscars' list because they weren't submitted by the home nations like "Broken Embraces" (Spain), "Coco Before Chanel" (France), "Lebanon" (Israel), "The Maid" (Chile) and "Thirst" (Korea) and "Vincere" (Italy). In the case of "The Maid," for example, it won kudos at the Sundance Film Festival and Gotham Awards and is nominated for best foreign film at the Indie Spirits. Globe nominations will be announced Tuesday morning. "About Elly," Iran "Ajami," Israel "Baaria," Italy "Backyard," Mexico "Broken Embraces," Spain "Broken Promise," Slovak Republic "I Cannot Live Without You," Taiwan...

In the years I've been documenting Oscar's once largely undocumented foreign film category, we've seen the number of players creep up virtually every year, despite the concurrent dwindling of foreign film distribution in the United States. In 2001 for example when I first began tracking it and sharing the info online, there were 51 official submissions for Best Foreign Language Film. Last year there were 67. For the 2009 Oscar race (the submission deadline has now passed) we've now heard from 62 countries. But that doesn't mean the official list will only be 62 films. In the eight years I've been documenting this race, something always changes between the submission deadline and Oscar's official announcement of the list (coming soon): Films are disqualified, last minute switcheroos happen, countries that didn't make noise when they first submitted are revealed. There will be drama... albeit the mostly invisible kind.
You can see more about these 62 entries (cast,...
