When Ben White's (Reb Brown) sister Karen (Hana Ludvikova) is killed by a werewolf, he and reporter Jenny Templeton (Annie McEnroe) team up and follow werewolf hunter Stefan Crosscoe (Christopher Lee) to Transylvania in order to battle Stirba (Sybil Danning), an immortal werewolf queen.
Howling II is a sequel to The Howling (1981), which is based on The Howling (1977), a novel by American author Gary Brandner. Brandner also wrote two sequels, Howling II: The Return (1979) and The Howling III: Echoes (1985), but neither of these were adapted for this movie. However, Brandner did co-write the screenplay with screenwriter Robert Sarno. The Howling II was followed by Howling III (1987), Howling IV: The Original Nightmare (1988), Howling V: The Rebirth (1989), Howling VI: The Freaks (1991) and The Howling: Reborn (2011), but none of these are related to Howling II.
