Production ended prematurely after co-star Samantha Smith (Elizabeth) died in a plane crash during a break in filming.
Samantha Reed Smith's character, Elizabeth Culver, was not going to be killed off because of her death. Rather, Elizabeth would have remained alive off-screen, moving to live in Paris, France permanently with her divorced mother. A third daughter would have then moved to Virginia to live with her father and Margaret Ann.
Maia Brewton is stated as having been cast as the youngest daughter in Lime Street on the basis that she had been in Back to the Future. In fact, she was cast in and started filming Lime Street in May of 1985, before Back to the Future was released in theaters.
Margaret Ann, the youngest daughter, is always called this in the dialog and never just Margaret. This type of "double naming" is common in southern U.S. states such as Virginia where the Culver family lives.
Robert Wagner and Sir John Standing appeared in Hart to Hart (1979), To Catch a King (1984), and Windmills of the Gods (1988).
