The first silent film of Kannada film industry was 'Mricchakatika'(Vasantsena) in 1931, starring Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay. Girish Karnad who directed Utsav is from Karnataka (South Indian state) and is well versed and a known scholar in Kannada language.
Shashi Kapoor lost big amount of money with Utsav he got into debts. Utsav made Shashi Kapoor bankraft. After about 7 years later, Shashi Kapoor released Ajooba, a totally big budget masala type of film, here slowly Shashi Kapoor recovered his money and got of red.
The last film Kunal Kapoor acted in his father film.
Rekha got extremely mad at Shekhar Suman after he gave an where he hinted that the two were having an affair. Shekhar was terrible sorry for upsetting her and wrote her an apology letter. He never had the courage to ask her if she even got the letter.
Produced by Shashi Kapoor, this movie was based on the 4th-century play 'Mrichchakatikam'(meaning The Little Clay Cart) written by the Sanskrit scholar Shudraka.
