Prince and The Clash will be honored by the Recording Academy with lifetime achievement awards during a ceremony held during the 2025 Grammys.

Frankie Beverely, Taj Mahal, and Frankie Valli are also set to receive lifetime achievement Grammys at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony, which will be held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on February 1st, 2025.

During his lifetime, Prince earned a total 32 Grammy nominations, winning seven awards, including Best Rock Performance for “Purple Rain” in 1985.

Incredibly, The Clash received only one nomination (which they ended up winning): Best Long Form Music Video for the 2000 documentary film The Clash: Westway to the World.

The 2025 Grammys will take place on Sunday, February 2nd at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Beyoncé, Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Charli Xcx, Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift, and Sabrina Carpenter are among the artists with the most nominations.

The Minneapolis house where Prince’s character in Purple Rain resided has been transformed into a shrine for the singer and the iconic 1984 film, with the abode soon heading to AirBnb for fans to stay in.

“The Purple Rain House” will be available on the rental site for 25 one-night stays starting in October, with an added bonus: Wendy & Lisa, the Revolution members and Prince’s co-stars in the film, are serving as the house’s hosts, and the duo has curated a uniquely Prince experience for those lucky enough to grab a reservation.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Prince’s classic film Purple Rain and its accompanying soundtrack album. To celebrate the occasion, members of his backing band The Revolution have listed the newly restored home from the movie on Airbnb.

The Purple Rain house, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will be open for 25 total one-night stays from October 26th to December 14th. It’s a tight concept for a movie that fizzles out thanks to implausible dialog, a misguided lead performance, and a mid-movie twist that doesn’t work at all.

Per the press release, “Saleka and her dad, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, had always shared an appreciation for music-driven films and long dreamed of a collaboration. They essentially built Trap from kitchen table conversations.

Director Albert Magnoli’s musical drama starred Prince as the Kid, an aspiring musician from an abusive upbringing who navigates a rivalry with another performer (Morris E. Day) and a romance with a fellow singer (Apollonia Kotero).

Following the success of his 1982 album, 1999, Prince told manager Robert Cavallo of his big-screen aspirations. After facing resistance from studios, Cavallo produced the project himself, with Prince writing the songs and culling story ideas from his own journey.

Magnoli worked on the script with screenwriter William Blinn (Fame) but also encouraged collaboration from Prince’s friends who were cast in supporting roles, including Day, who fronted the band Prince put together. Prince has been posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The induction took place on Saturday, July 27th at a 40th anniversary screening of Prince’s Purple Rain at the Target Center in his native Minneapolis. His induction marks the second time the Songwriters Hall of Fame has awarded an artist posthumously after inducting the late Cindy Walker in April.

Prince was inducted by Gilbert Davidson, a longtime colleague of the musician, who then bestowed the award to Prince’s sister, Sharon Nelson. “You will always remember his songs,” Nelson told the crowd. “This is the award he wanted more than any other in life — to be known as a great songwriter.”

The song is taken from M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming thriller “Trap,” which is due Aug. 2 and stars Saleka as well as Josh Hartnett, Hayley Mills and Marnie McPhail. Buffalo 8 has acquired the science fiction comedy “Free LSD” from punk rock supergroup Off! and a trailer has been unveiled.

The film, which closed the 2023 Slamdance Film Festival, shares its title with the band’s album that debuted at #20 on the Billboard Album Sales Chart.

“Free LSD” stars Keith Morris (Off!’s frontman) as an elderly sex shop owner who falls for a younger woman. His romantic escapades lead him to an unconventional erectile dysfunction doctor and an experimental drug. It’s been 40 years since Prince’s seminal album Purple Rain — a.k.a. the greatest album of all time — was released. To honor the occasion, Npg Records and Paisley Park Enterprises, in partnership with Warner Records, have announced a new Dolby Atmos remix of the record.

Available to stream today on participating DSPs, the newly remastered Purple Rain was mixed from the original multitrack master tapes by former Prince engineer, Chris James. It arrives as Paisley Park is rolling out a plethora of festivities to celebrate the 40th anniversary. Musician Sheila E. was denied access to Paisley Park, the late Prince’s iconic studio and residence, as she attempted to celebrate what would have been the music legend’s 66th birthday on June 7.

Sheila E., a former protégée and collaborator of Prince, took to social media to express her heartbreak over the incident. In a video shared on Instagram, she revealed that she had traveled to Paisley Park in Minneapolis to commemorate Prince’s birthday but was not allowed to enter the studio, do a live video or take a picture there.

“I went in to celebrate him and wanted to go into the studio and do a live video. I took a picture, and they said, ‘No,'” Sheila E. said in the video. “My heart’s broke. I can’t even walk into Paisley. That’s kind of messed up.”
