Director Jackie Kong added sound effects in post production to make it seem like Billy Barty was farting all the time. Barty had no idea that was going to happen and was furious. He tried to sue the production company.
This film was made on weekends only and everyone worked on a deferred salary.
Linda Blair said in a 1999 interview that director Jackie Kong wasn't "playing with a full deck." She became obsessed with Murray Langston, but when he didn't return her affections, she started making his life hell. She'd make him do several takes on every scene even though he wasn't doing anything wrong. She also screamed at the crew and told them they were no good. Langston finally had enough and left the project completely. They had to dub in The Unknown Comic's voice and rewrite the jokes Langston wrote because he wouldn't let them use them.
Linda Blair said that Night Patrol wasn't made to cash in on the success of Police Academy (1984) like some people claim. She said Murray Langston wrote the Night Patrol script long before anyone ever heard of Police Academy, and the film went into production before Academy. But production problems and script rewrites delayed Night Patrol, so it didn't come out until after the other film.
