"Born Beautiful" is a somewhat silly little comedy-drama about a former super-model(Erin Gray), who would like to make something more out of herself and decides to do so by taking an aspiring model(Lori Singer) under her wing. These two women develop a vague sense of teamwork, as Gray photographs Singer and tries to teach her all she knows. Singer is enthusiastic, but somewhat dense, and we see right away the she does not have a lot of potential to make it into the world of modeling, or at least not in the way that Gray once was. Nevertheless, the ladies keep trying, and they learn some important lessons along the way about themselves, and about each other. And then Gray goes abroad and becomes a great photographer of disadvantaged children in Third world countries? Does that part sound pointless to the story? Well, it is, and that's when it goes awry, as Gray gets wrapped up in her new career, just as Singer's career finally takes off. A reunion does take place, with the women trying to come to terms, but by that time, we've practically forgotten that they knew each other, so it makes for some pretty useless screen time. The modeling part is kind of interesting, though. I've always thought of modeling as a pretty silly business, and this didn't really change my opinion of it, but it was interesting to see how it was done. Also, Erin Gray and Lori Singer are not at their absolute best, but they do have good chemistry, and Lori Singer's hapless character does provide for some entertainment. If one was to watch this, it is recommended to pay close attention to the first hour, but maybe you might want to read a good book or something during the second.
