After I finished watching this, I checked the description, and saw that it was described as being the "granddaddy of teen sex movies." It seems hard to describe it that way when it was released in 1983. There's a very minimal amount of plot to the movie. In fact, it seems strange for a movie that is so laser-focused on having a series of sex gags back to back. If I were back in 7th or 8th grade, I would absolutely love this movie. I would have found it hilarious, and probably pretty erotic. But as an adult, I didn't find it terribly funny. In fact, this is one of the strangest movies I've seen. Usually, in a teen sex movie, there's a serious plot of some sort. There will be a romance, there will be some sort of lesson learned. There will be someone struggling to pass a class... This one doesn't. This one is so singularly focused on just providing one titillating moment after another. There's only a single character who isn't fully sex-obsessed, and that's a teacher that has been bound in a wheelchair. Most of the other teachers are portrayed as being anti-sex, although later, they are shown to be just as obsessed as the core cast is. There are a few things that are memorable, but ultimately, the movie is an example of what happens when you pull all of the heart out of a movie. It narrows the audience that will enjoy it.
Screwballs (1983) is a movie I recently watched on Amazon Prime and tells the tale of T&A High School and a bunch of horny guys doing everything they can to see nude females.
This movie is directed by Rafal Zielinski (Fun) and stars Peter Keleghan (Ginger Snaps), Linda Shayne (Big Bad Mama II), Nanci Chambers (JAG) and Jan Taylor Hendricks (In the Heat of the Night).
The storyline has little to no meat but there are some fun sequences throughout the film. The dialogue and reactions are hilarious and the teachers are over the top cliché. The sign hanging opening was perfect for this genre and the mirror idea in the hall was brilliant. The drive-in and "My First Strike" scenes were great and the pool sequence was pretty random. I will say they did a good job "picking their talent."
Overall this is a movie only worth watching for T&A. I would score this a 4/10 and would go into this with the appropriate expectation.

You don't go into this one expecting Shakespeare, folks. You expect first off, a little skin, and if you are lucky, a lot of skin. You expect broad locker-room type sex jokes. You expect that someone will be sexually humiliated at some point ( a must in the genre ). You expect all the cliques at your high school to be wildly parodied. You expect teachers to be portrayed as Nazis. You go in expecting all this and this film delivers. This movie was made just before video broke big time. Thsi was one of the early hits and many video hounds from way back can fondly look back as this being a rental they enjoyed. Check brain at the door and enjoy. It's all done in s spirit of goofy sexy fun and that is the spirit it needs to be seen in. Would make a great double feature with "Porky's".

A movie that could only be made in the early 80's. It has a very USA "Up All Night with Rhonda Shear" vibe to it except with a lot more nudity. It's very much Porky's redheaded step child as the entire plot is 5 high school guys trying to see a high school virgin named Purity's boobs. A mission that no man has yet to accomplish. Yes that is the plot.
There's a scene where they go strip bowling and the stereotypical typical nerd gets his member stuck in one of the holes. A couple girls get him all worked up and he "shoots" the ball down the lane for a strike. Why did I give this movie 3 stars again?

Mind-numbingly awful 80s sex farce. It's probably one of the worst made movies I've ever seen, but it's so awful that it kind of goes back around to becoming almost fascinating in its pure horridness. Almost. Man, these people have no idea how to construct a gag. You watch it, and you kind of know what they were going for, but it misses its marks by so far that you kind of feel sorry for it. I really do feel sorry for all the poor actors and, especially, actresses who appear in it. The story has five high school guys who plan on getting revenge on the high school's only virgin (Linda Speciale, playing a character named Purity Busch) after she gets them in trouble. Kind of a must-see for lovers of terrible movies.
i didn't find anything special about this alleged sex comedy.i think i laughed twice throughout the movie.the whole thing is really random and incoherent in my opinion.but it wasn't the worst movie i've ever seen or the worst of the genre, for that matter.it isn't very memorable though.in a day or two,i'll have forgotten most of the movie.i thought the soundtrack was pretty lame also.there are a fair amount of naked breasts in the movie, but that alone doesn't make it worth watching,in my books.it's touted as a raunchy sex comedy,in fact 'the raunchiest sex comedy of the 80's' but i didn't think it was raunchy at all.for me,Screwballs is a 3/10

The Movie they saw at the drive in is an actual movie, but the name of it is "The Arena", it may be very similar to the one they said they were going to see called "The Wild Women of Wongo", but its not that one

Just an awful, awful film production with horrific acting, writing, sound, lighting, and every other aspect that makes a good film.
I often wonder how these type of films get green lit. But then again, it was the early 1980's when pubescent titillation was hard to come buy for teen boys. So, so many awful jokes, one liners, and plays on words.
The girls are beautiful.
Taft and Adams? Really? In Canada nonetheless.

As a classy movie this one rates a 0 - but as a fun frolicking teenage sex romp it is unquestionably a 10! I would have to say that this is a classic of the genre and I must agree with the other comments that have been made here (and totally disagree with Leonard Maltin). If you like this type of raucous fluff and you're into a titty movie that isn't a full-on porno, this just might be what you're after. They definitely don't make them like this anymore, pity really, they were lots of fun and every boy's dream.
Wasn't the greatest of movies, bad acting, slow at times. But did deliver with lots of T&A. That's good considering this movie was made before Hollywood went silicone, all natural women. This movie reminded me a lot of Revenge of the Nerds as an unlikely bunch of high school boys share a common need of revenge on the popular hot girl. They vow to get even and the hijinks ensue! No big names in this movie and the characters are forgettable but it delivers great nudity. So leave your thinking caps at home, pop some popcorn and grab a beer because this movie is available on Netflix streaming right now! 7 out of 10 on the T&A scale.

It's the 60's at Taft and Adams (T&A) High School. The boys are sex obsessed. Five boys get detention for sexual misconducts. Purity Busch is responsible for the demise of some of them. The boys vow to get back at the impossible Busch.
This Canadian high school sex romp tries to follow the great success of Porky's. The production is lower level. It certainly doesn't have anything as iconic as the shower scene. It's a poor attempt at a money grab. Some of the pranks are confused. It does precede Revenge of the Nerds. The difference is that the guys are not really friends. There is no character work here. It's just an excuse of T&A, mostly T. I'm guessing the local strippers got some extra work. The only joke that worked is the name of the high school. It's so on the nose that it's funny. Otherwise, non of it is funny. This is weak.

This film will definitely cause you to rewind a few times, and fast-forward a lot more, because huge sections of it are predictable and flat to the point of humorless. The four main male characters... I hated them, but they seem to be somewhat accurate. Rafal Zielinski is a competent director, and the editor has rendered some rather effective "speed up" gags.
Here and there, a good line is said, or a good piece of physical comedy is shown, but it's usually the script, not the way it's delivered, that's funny. And most of the nudity... To be frank, you get sick of it by sheer repetition (Wow, EVERY character is sort a deviant... boring) and want to see a character you can actually like.
Now, on to Linda Shayne,
She's hardly a prolific director these days, and some of her material is borderline vomitably kid-oriented(Flying Ryan, Purple People Eater), but she is still skilled at suiting the needs of the right target audience. Plus, she is more attractive than the rest of the female cast combined. It's a shame that she couldn't have gotten herself the female lead as Purity: her acting skills and physique are much better. Much more likely to draw a guy like me over to the cause of feminism than Ann Coulter or Oprah Winfrey
In short, she's the reason I am really mad that the local movie rental has lost its copy of this tape.

Why is it that Canadians are so funny in the United States, but are so lousy in their own country? Did all the good ones leave? Does the Canadian government exercise too much control over productions.
Canada is so close to the U.S., I cant believe they don't have a similar sense of sexual humor. Except for one very brief gag, this movie makes no attempt to convey even the slightest motivation as to why teenagers pull the type of pranks they do. Even if you just assume they are just horny adolescents, their gags are highly unoriginal and/or have no original outcome.
Perfect example of how to take an 16mm camera, a large cheap cast and make a throw away film.

This movie jumped around so much I couldn't keep up. There was really no plot, just a bunch of scenes and ideas thrown together much like this review. The gratuitous nudity was nice, it bumped the rating up a notch. The acting was bland but I wasn't really expecting a whole lot. Definitely not worth your time. I found myself staring at the time waiting for it to finish.
Granted, as I stumbled upon the 1983 comedy "Screwballs", I had never heard about the movie prior to watching it. But it seemed like a movie in the spirit of "American Pie", so of course I opted to sit down and watch it. Perhaps I had been missing out on something hilarious.
Turns out that writers Linda Shayne and Jim Wynorski failed to provide me with much entertainment in what they wrote for the script and storyline. The storyline felt as if it was lacking a red thread to tie together each scene. And as such, the movie felt like something writers Linda Shayne and Jim Wynorski were writing independently without talking together.
The acting in the movie was adequate enough, I mean for a movie such as it turned out to be. Needless to say that I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in "Screwballs".
I didn't laugh once throughout the 80 minutes that the movie ran for. And having suffered through director Rafal Zielinski's 1983 comedy without a single laugh, I have to say that I am not even going to bother with the 1985 sequel.
My rating of "Screwballs" lands on a two out of ten stars.

A raucous, stupid teen sex comedy that's rather bearable, if you start watching it knowing more or less what to expect. Short on laughs and genuine eroticism, to be sure, but voyeurs may still be pleased, since there's a load of nudity. Nevertheless, it's a generally inoffensive picture. (*1/2)
This film essentially begins with several teenage boys all trying to be the first to gaze upon the breasts of one particular high school student by the name of "Purity Busch" (Linda Speciale). Unfortunately, when all of their individual ideas backfire they then decide to work together to expose her cleavage for all the world to see. What they don't count on is just how difficult this will turn out to be as Purity has the full support of the school faculty behind her. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say this was a rather typical coming-of-age high school comedy produced during this particular time period. To that effect, it uses the same clichéd formula and includes the usual stereotypical characters by incorporating a fat slob "Melvin Jerkovski" (played by Jason Warren), a nerd named "Howie Bates" (Alan Deveau) a rich kid by the name of "Brent Van Dusen III" (Ken Deuters) along with a couple of other losers thrown in as well. Again, nothing out-of-the-ordinary. Throw in some sophomoric humor and a paper-thin plot and that pretty much sums up the basic premise of this film in a nutshell. Admittedly, it was somewhat commercially successful and there were a couple of attractive actresses like Linda Shayne (as "Bootsie Goodhead") and the aforementioned Linda Speciale to brighten the scenery. Be that as it may, however, it never amounts to more than a substandard "Porky's" clone and I have rated it accordingly.
This movie isn't deep or well acted and its plot is on the level on my high school mentality. That said I would put this movie in the raunchy funny classic category. It was funny and reminded me so much of my high school days. I don't need all my movies to be Gone With the Wind or The Sweet Smell of Success or Sunset Boulevard type quality movies. This was a Saturday morning movie for me and I was drinking my first cup of strong coffee. This movie cracked me up and was refreshing on a don't have to think about anything and be entertained by T & A on a high school pranks kinda level. And this was not your normal level T & A this was on a bodacious T & A level in my opinion. If you're in the mode for a screwball kinda of movie from the early 1980s you will enjoy this movie. Movies to me are entertainment and Screwballs made me laugh and brought me back to my high school days so I gave it a solid 7. Oh and by the way, I related most to the naive Tim character who received detention because he was tricked into going into the girls locker-room. That was 100% me. I wasn't one of the popular guys and I wasn't a geek. I was just an average student who lacked street smarts but I sure had a lot of fun with my buddy's doing stupid innocent screwball stuff.
Many consider this film a classic teen sex comedy and one of the originators to have inspired later films such as American Pie. The film is as one would expect. The description and plot synopsis is accurate to how the film turned out.
With a short runtime they make sure to include several reoccurring scenes of skin and nudity. This film just feels like a mash up of unrelated skits pieced together. Nothing plotwise exactly flows together. No laughs in the film but it's relatively lighthearted and predictable. The drive thru theatre and bowling scene were done of the highlights. Very predictable ending.
The lead characters came across as try hard perverts where it was hard to root for. Of course the end has the famous pay off where they finally get what they wanted. This film has the skin but overall not that great of a story.

Was it fun for the boys to humiliated Purity Bush? Perhaps, but I guess she killed herself afterwards. Most high school girls would after that.
It's not fun for her at least.
Just some old shool sexist thing that didn't aged time well. If it ever was good, I dont know.
Maybe one of the worst films I ever seen. Really that bad, and not funny at all.
You keep wondering if they didn't have s3x education or p*rn in Canada when it was made. Because making a whole film about some guys prepared to do anything just to see some naked girls? Yes that the whole plot.
Not working for today's audience.

In my review for the similarly themed ZAPPED AGAIN!, I noted that it came across as a whitewashed T&A offering that was much better received as a puerile comedy than anything voyeuristic in nature. SCREWBALLS, which was apparently made on a much lower budget and with much less renowned performers, is the exact opposite - a chaotic carnival of soft-core porn in which the humor is at best unremarkable and at worst painful.
Some have compared this movie to NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE, but that comparison is extremely unjust. You see, ANIMAL HOUSE was not just an excuse to show drunken frat boys and girls in their underwear. It also tackled such trenchant topics as class conflict, race relations, and the lure of irresponsibility in a hopelessly puritanical and joyless world. I view it more as a poignant examination of the trials and tribulations of adolescence than as the purely tawdry slice of camp which it's usually tagged. The makers of SCREWBALLS do not deserve to lick the boots of John Landis and company.
SCREWBALLS was put together by a gaggle of confirmed slackers with absolutely no regard for taste and decency. The movie is unabashedly politically incorrect (granted, the idea of "political correctness" did not exist as such in the early 1980s; but these guys violated most of its tenets just the same) and is based on the erroneous belief that high school boys do not care about anything other than sex. While the members of Delta Tau Chi may not have been above reproach, at least they didn't spend most of their time trying to separate the prom queen from her clothes.
If you are a diehard fan of this genre, I don't want to spoil the ending for you. Let's just say that it involves sartorial decay and magnets, and leave it at that.
Female moviegoers will probably not enjoy SCREWBALLS because of its sexist nature, so I recommend that they skip it. Their male counterparts, on the other hand, might have a good time. But remember this, fellows: a movie about female stripping becomes less and less entertaining every time you see it - so limit your viewing of SCREWBALLS to one night.
